2011 CHAMPIONSHIP GETS UNDERWAY

18 players gathered at Mansfields Gas Club for the opening event of the Epic UK Championship, when the dust had settled Steve Gullick (Eldar) emerged victorious defeating Kevin Bott (Codex Marines) in the deciding game. Kev took 2nd place with Bob Wolstencroft (Black Templars) taking 3rd in a very tightly bunched field. Martyn Thomas won a 3 way dice-off to take the most sporting award, whilst Matt Arnold and Mike Mee took the painting awards in a very high standard group of armies.
Particular mention must go to Bob Wolstencroft who, courtesy of a devastating orbital bombardment and drop, defeated Matt Arnold in under 5 minutes, the first appearances of the Ulthwe, Iyanden and Tau lists and highest ever finishes for Kev, Bob, Mike Thomas and Mike Mee.

And, in the aftermath, at the open gaming day the day after, Tim Hunt and Mike Thomas's Ork horde tried to hold the Bridge Too Far bridges against Dave Thomas's Marines and Sam Dale's Steel Legion.

Last time this was tried, the Orks held up the Imperial Guard column, and the Marines were overwhelmed. This time, the Orks were thoroughly smashed aside, with even the Great Gargant holding the final objective was left a burning hulk by repeat volleys from two Leman companies and a kill stroke from a pair of Warhounds.

Thanks to Steve for running (and organising) the weekend (and for the use of the Black Templars on Sunday), and to the guys I played.
