Couldn't you just speak to Gavin directly, dont you go to the same club?

Haven't been able to get to the club for the last few weeks, too busy.

Gavin sent an email out a few weeks ago (at least I got one) giving details of how to pay him by paypal (just pay to his personal email address).

Didn't get it. I assume others didn't / haven't too.

Fair enough

To be clear then just for anyone who would like to enter this tournament but hasn't you need to pay Gavin by paypal at his personal email address. Now clearly I cant just write Gavins email address here, but perhaps if people havn't received an email of any sort from Gavin and so dont have his email address they could post here so he see's that and then he could pm them or arrange some other system of payment.

Mark, I have no real objections to using the 'Squats' and it may even help spur on the development of the lists. However, I am not sure whether there is an 'approved' list as such. The Demiurg list has been going some time, and more recently the Thurgrim list. check out the responses here. I have not seen or played either so am at a bit of a loss to determine which is the more appropriate. Probably best to nominate your preferred list and then we can check with the author on his views.

Also there may be some questions around tunneling and one or two other parts of the list, so perhaps the best way forward would be to have a quick discussion on the boards to cover any points you feel may be contentious on the day.

For any of the many Nottingham (and surrounds) based players who might have thought of going to this tournament but were worried about travel to london on a bank holiday, there are direct trains from Nottingham to London St Pancras international train station still available for under fourty pounds travelling down on the saturday morning (admittedly with an early start) and returning the Saturday evening (So no worry about expensive accomadation in London).

There are even first class tickets available if you want to travel in relative comfort (alright maybe relatively less discomfort) for just over £40.

Many thanks

So we have reduced numbers this year for various reasons, but the lists are looking 'very interesting'.

If anyone has a change of heart and decides they do want to come after all, please drop me a line.

The list of attendees on the first post is correct 'as of now' so on Saturday there will be between 7-10 players excluding myself, while on Sunday it will be between 4-7 people.

I will be bringing along spare stuff, as will several others just in case other people want to join in the fun.

Excellent day 1, had a lot of fun!

Came 4th overall (Would have done better and finally cracked into the top 3 of a tourney* but for some repeated heavy runs of bad luck in game 3, I think), tied for "Best Painted" (Lost out to Darren on a roll-off) and was voted "Most Sporting Player", which was nice!

Game 1 was a 2-0 win, game 2 was a 0-2 loss, and game 3 was a 0-0 draw (and we were only 125pts apart on a count-off, so that was a dead even draw on VP's too).

Roll on day 2!

* I think about two thirds of my tournament appearances have resulted in me landing up either 4th or 5th, but never in the top 3.

Wooo, I came 2nd! Finally cracked into the top 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, okay, only 5 people turned up, but still, top 3 wooooooooooooooo! ;D :D ::)

With so many drop-outs we just had a friendly couple of games, then worked out tournament scores at the end of the day for a laugh.

I played Zombo's Sisters with my AMTL (Lost 0-3 on turn 3) and Yme-Loc's Tau with my vanilla Marines* (Won 2-0 on turn 3, would have been 3-0 but for an Orca landing to contest an objective).

Still it was a fun day despite all the pull-outs, and it was an especially challenging game against Joe's Tau that really set my brain in motion.

As to attendance, it seems that the bank holiday has affected both days, hopefully things will be a little busier next year.

Many thanks to Gavin for organising and running the event!

*I used the same list as I used on day 1, so as to give the Tau a proper playtest.

Just a quick report of London 2010

A really nice tournament again even if due to a number of factors numbers were a bit lower than in previous years, thanks to Gavin for organising a very friendly and relaxed event and to all my opponents over the weekend for some really great and challenging games.

So day one, used ork horde

My List
Big Warband + 3 Boys + 3 Grots + Big gun (+Supa Zzap)
Big Warband + 2 Boys + 2 Grots
Warband
Warband
Landa
Landa
Mekboy Stompa Mob
Mekboy Gunsmob
Big Blits + 2 Soopa Guns
Big Blits + 2 Supa Zzap

Game 1 Me (Ork Horde) vs James (Steel Legion Guard)

This was James first tournament and he had not played many games with his guard even so he managed to keep his army compact and all mutually supported and proceded to blow big chunks out of my orks as they advanced, his list was fairly standard with mech infantry, garrisoned foot slogger infantry and russ's supported by a variety of super heavy platoons, rough riders, hydras and thunderbolts.

In the end though the waves of greenskins managed to win a war of attrition and slowly surrounded and pushed back the guard this combined with the devastation of the soopa guns both in firing at infantry and also hammering the russ's meant I was able to win 3-0 in the fourth turn with BTS, Defend the Flag and Take and Hold.

Game 2 Me (Ork Horde) vs Ben (Codex Marines)

Next up was Ben with his lovely marine army with stunning warhound titans (even the interiors are modelled), Bens army was composed of two tac formations, two warhounds a thunderhawk with devs and assault with teleporting termies and a few other supporting formations of assault and thunderbolts. A tough game this one but I always felt reasonably in control as I kept my army together and weathered the initial marine attacks and air assaults, also Ben had some bad luck in the first turn when trying to break my stompas and in a couple of assaults that turned against him on tight dice rolls.

the game from the off pretty much turned into a vicious war of attrition with massive ork casualties in a couple of assaults that went on more than one round and Ben attacking aggresively - but in the end Orks will tend to prevail in this sort of battle and it proved to be the case here, I was able to win 2-0 in the third turn with BTS and either defend the flag or take and hold (cant remember which).

Game 3 Me (Ork Horde) vs Alan (Ork Horde)

Alans orde horde was quite different to mine dominated by Great gargant with heavily mechanised support formations, basically turned into a big orky sluggfest in the centre as both armies ripped into each other at close range with soopa guns and close ranged shooting.

However I won the all important second turn initiative roll and this combined with the devestation caused by my landa air assaults to Alans mechanised formations of buggies and wagons left by the end the Great Gargant and a few small footslogger warbands to fight alone. Although the Great gargant continued to cause heavy casualties my big warbands were able to shrug it off and control the table eventually blockking the Great gargant from defending its own blits and clearing the remaing ork defenders away from objectives.

Leaving me with a 4-0 win in the third turn Defend the flag, they shall not pass, blits and take and hold.

A really good day with three great games against super opponents.

Day 2

An even more relaxed day of gaming followed today with only four players we played a couple of round robbin style games.

Game 1 Me (Tau) vs Matt (Eldar)

First game was against Matts tough looking 14 activaion eldar army with Guardians in wave serpents, swooping hawks, 2 air assaults with guardians and rangers, nightwings, void spinner, jetbikes and falcons. Tough battle this with swings first one way then the other any Tau shooting caused heavy casualties and any eldar assaults wiped out Tau formations in the end the turning point was a guardian air assault in a vampire being shot down by Barracudas and the sheer Tau numbers managed to wear down the eldar and despite Matt having a brief chance of victory in turn three if he could have killed a sigle pathfinder with a doubling vyper shot, I manged to get a 2-1 win in the fourth turn BTS and Defend the Falg vs BTS.

Game 2 Me (Tau) vs Ben (Codex Marines)

Played another game against Ben, in which he used his tournament marine list from the day before, Bens experience at fighting Tau combined with my relative lack of experience in using them was decisive here as he basically attacked all out from the beginning and never let the pressure off the Tau. Although I caused heavy casualties through shooting it was never quite enough to stop the marine assaults coming in and each assault tended to cause very heavy Tau casualties. This combined with a fairly inept showing by the Tau air caste forces and a few bad decisions by me in terms of initial deployment and the target of my air assault meant Ben was always in a winning possition and took the game 2-0 in the third with BTS and Blits.

All in all two great days of gaming
