Yes, all of this needs discussing but I feel that it's defintely possible to rejig them accordingly; remember that some scenarios such as the 'Beachead' style game we played employ objectives that can be captured and i suspect many other scenarios will also; in each case it's just a case of adapting and making sure that the way points are scored are clear and known before the event; plenty of time to polish things out :-)

One of the things that i want the Winter Warmer to do is to bridge the gap between tournament play and the possibility for making other types of Epic event a popular and feasible choice; with any luck the combination of points scoring and scenario play will do that I hope!

Of course; one thing that I haven't made quite clear thus far is that we would like to encourage a 'friendly' way of playing but with the challenge of competitive chess games with a mate for example! However; i usually find this to be the case with Epic UK tourney's anyway!

I'm interested :) I'll bring a cheque with me this weekend.

Have you intentionally vetoed Inquisition lists for some reason or forgot to include them? I'd been planning on painting up and using the Grey Knights I bought, with a heavily converted Psi-Titan (counts as Warlord) to go with.

Scoring can be worked out in relation to the scenarios. So long as everyone plays the same selection of scenarios it can still be balanced and be a tournament, even if the standard tournament scenario isn't used.

I guess I agree with Gavin, if it's not using the tournament scenario, is it in actual fact a tournament?

If scores are kept and prizes awarded... yes.   :))

Just a *different* kind of tournament.

MoK hasn't contacted me about specific scenarios yet, but we'll do our best to work things out.

Cheers Glyn; i'll have The Book up and running by then so can pop you in.

I've kept Inquisition Lists out of it at the moment as according to the Taccomms Wiki they haven't been tested or regarded as balanced as of yet...have i perhaps missed a list? Must admit I've not seen many of the Inquisition lists myself so will take a look and see what we can do...

Salamanders and Black Templars added to list of lists allowed.
Missed them out to begin with.

Ryan tells me he's going to be in Syria looking for dinosaur bones, or lost sacred amulets in hidden temples on this date, and so regretfully can't make it.

Ryan can't make his own tournament? Are you sure E&C? He's only just set up the thread advertising it.

Ah! I did wonder!?! I was worried you were trying to ship me away from the event so as to steal the prizes!

Will it not create difficulties having the attack/defence lists from the same army - some armies are really going to struggle doing one or the other on some of the scenarios.

Would picking 2 armies of the same race be a better solution?

MoK hasn't indicated to me which scenarios he's interested in running, but not all the "EPIC: Total War" scenarios have "Attacker/Defender", some still have "mirrored" conditions.

Having an "Attacker" and "Defender" army option for each player would still be cool though.

Same army for both seems fairer IMO. Many races only have one list anyway, it would seem unfair for someone to be allowed to attack with Kult of Speed and defend with Feral Orks say.

I think the "two lists" would actually be from the "same" list... so an "Attacking" Speed Freaks and a "Defending" Speed Freaks", if the person was playing Speed Freaks.

Chroma is correct :-) The way i see it that, it many circumstances, it will also help scenarios to be played as was intended instead of defenders just racing off trying to kill stuff! WIth any luck the scenarios ensure this sort of behaviour would not occur anyhow; so really it's more a balancing issue to ensure that races that have a more narrow band of tactics also have the chance to succeed in others.

One would, as has been noted, have an attack Speed Freeks and defence Speed Freeks list; not, say, Attack with speed freeks and defend with Ferals!

So; who else is coming? :-)!

More announcements about what to expect from the event soon!

ATTENDEES:
Paid: E&C, Zombocom, Rug, Glyn G, Reedar
Provisional: EdgarSan, Zog, Zog's Mate, Zog's other mate, Pulsar, Apocolocyntosis, MadDoctor, Alansa.

So that's 12 of 16 places already potentially gone and with less than a quarter no longer even available! Looks like it's gonna be a popular choice for the start of the year! And, as a note, 'newcomers' spaces have only one space left from the above list! Get in quick if you want to be assured of attending; and, regulars, let us know your plans!
Hope to see you all there,
R>
