Pity you didn't get to play against any of the "new" Marine list!

Indeed I was looking forwards to that but I think only two were there (Both Dark Angels IIRC).

Looks like a good time though... and Black Legion sure loves their War Engines!  *laugh*

And unlike the Steel Legion War Engine horde, it's not crap.  :))

What are your thoughts on the EPIC UK "scene"?

I tried to write a witty metaphor here but it just sounded insulting, so I'll just go with 'The standard of competition is very high, the rules changes are overall good but could be a lot better'.

Please tell me you have a pic of MoKs army.... It was the star of the show! MoK won best painted btw.

Nope the only photo I took came out rubbish.

Some of the chaps there were asked to put their armies in the Miniatures Hall upstairs for six weeks as part of a revolving Specialist Games / side-games display, which includes MoK's army.

Good to see the post-up, hope you enjoyed yourself despite not doing so well in the rankings!

That Squat army is particularly nice looking, but well done to MoK for getting best army! He already has pictures of it up over his painting thread from before the tournament btw Rug.

That ork horde was invited for the hall too as well as my Eldar war host. The First company Vet judges obviously didn't like my painting though as I got an awful score!

Weird, I got 23 out of 25 for painting but she didn't want my stuff for the hall.

I'm normally a 'fluffy' player but the occasional tournament is an interesting change of pace.

I've previously enjoyed doing quite well at two tournaments (4th and 5th places) whilst using a fluffy list too, as it's more of a challenge to do well without a tricked out list.

At some point I need to break out my Marines and do a proper competative list with them.

It must of been your army roster  :)

TBH I marked your army about the same level as most others. The categories were very rigid (is it painted, any conversions, unit markings, army roster etc). It actually looks like they used the same painting system for all gaming systems (forgetting that EPIC is a game of 6mm figures and unit markings arn't easy to identify).

In regards to GW putting armies in their gallery IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT PAINTING. Sometimes it could be cool conversions or cool ideas. It's about getting a mix; I think she went around looking for armies that she thought appealed to her as being abit different, I dunno.

Chances of GW putting my squats there is less than zero seeing as they refuse to recognise they exist

Ok... I didn't word process my roster. But I did fill all the other criteria! Even my Mk1 tiny plastic Guardians have markings now even though it brought a tear to my eye- they're too small! some armies weren't even finished  beat me!

I got double the banter from Phantom yesterday evening as he beat me in the last round and got a higher painting score than me even though his army is painted to a really basic standard (you painted it!). Phantoms pink eldar got a really good painting score last year too! I CAN'T TAKE MORE PAINTING BANTER! Its my banter Achilies heel aaaaaaaaaaargggahhhh  :sigh:  :)

well Rug I did point out to you that my army was not actualy finnished in the painting department! but seriousely 21 out of 25 for an incomplete army. Did no one notice id not painted the infantry properly (Again!)

They must just like my drybrush and dip technique!

Good to see you at tourney E&C; do come to more if you can :-)
I used to worry about what i felt to be the 'competitive' nature of tourney's, and -more so - what i perceived to be a large amount of beardy armies but these days I have to disagree with myself in at least one of those!
I do like to play fluffy games here and there (no army lists, different victory conditions) but tend to enjoy pitting my wits in tourney games at the moment.  When i first came to an Epic Tourney i took a bog stnadard eldar army; which was something like:

-Guardians on Foot w/support
-Guardians in Wave Serpent
-Scouts
-Jet Bikes
-Jet Bikes
-Fire Prisms
-Falcons
-Aspects Warhost (with howling banshees!)
-Vampire
-Phantom Titan

and i came sixth! Which i was very happy with...however after this ego and my own inflated sense of superiority took hold and, seeing some of the strange ways of tournament play i became obsessed with attempting to write winning lists to combat and stay on par with those crazy six war engine Black Legion armies i saw...and i did terribly!
This weekend after two tournies which i didn't enjoy (due to my own fault; being overtly obsessed with placing high and playing poorly) i took the LatD list that you saw based purely on fluff and being what i felt to be a stereotypical list and i had the most fun i've had in a while; and i played a better game too; tourneys can be a steep learning curve and i've come to realise that most any list can be beaten and hope that if i keep playing i'll get better at the game to boot.
In short i've come to reliase that i come for the fun of it these days (and to rub Rug up the wrong way with the painting...;-)!), and that; as has been stated; people like Dave and the other top players are so damned good that they'd end up at somewhere at the top regardless of which army they took!
I still believe there are a few tweaks that can be made in most epic armies but for now am happy enough with how things go; lead from the front as they say; come to tourney's for the fun of it, don't succumb to the bad habits of poor sportsmanship, overt competitiveness or unbalanced armies and i guarenteed you'll have a great time :-)

PS: did anyone else see E&C's lovely Mars Pattern sculpted Warhound? A picture would be great :-)
