Thanks for Hena for organizing this great tournament! Here is my short story of my participation...:
I just moved 2 days ago, had bad flu back then and was still half-ill for recovering from it. All my figs were packed away except I had my EC close-by to be able to play with something. So I used Emperor's Children (the pure 2.0, so not the changes I have been testing), along with new Chaos flyers (both Bell Blades and Hell Talons). I will comment EC at the end.
The first game was against Tau. Real popcorn Tau with 14 activations. Any single formation with cost less than 100 is suspicious, especially if to take such a formation you do not need to take very expensive core formation... Krooz look like horribly underpriced (175 for 10 units with 4+ CC, infiltrate and scout?) and so is Orca still (100 points for flying transport for 12 units?? What were they thinking, should be 200) It is quite obvious that both Krooz and Orca are so cheap as very rare can afford them and nobody has them in big numbers. OTOH, crisis suits did not look that great. Those RA 4+ LV things saved everything but luckily could be wiped in CC.
The match itself was bad luck for Tau in first turn. Then they had a slight change to win in third turn as I was too busy wiping their expensive units after I finally won initiative, but then we run out of time and compared points for about 475 point lead to me.
Then I had game against Black Legion. I still wonder those "free" Chaos Lords - as always, there were 4 Chosen per formation. Why would anyone take more as Obliterators are grossly underpriced (75 points for 3x 45cm AA5+ ??). Chosen formation should be more like 300 for 4 (with Lord) + 60 for extra Chosen. And obliterators have like 2x ranged attacks or AA6+ only or something.
The match itself... I tried to wipe their BTS at the start by using my Daemon Knights but Chosen teleported behind them prevented that. Then there was much unbalanced rolls and I lost 2-0 on turn 4.
The last match was against (Khorne) Space Marines. This list had 3 Warhounds and then mainly Assault Marines and Bikes and some Whirlwinds. And nothing else. Nothing bad to say about SM list, it is obviously something which has been tested much more with different combinations and is more balanced and well thought...
Anyway, the match. I was already very tired, the flu had still a strong grip on me and I had lost interest to play.. made even more errors than earlier and this combined with super-armor of some units.. well we yet again run out of time after turn 3 and ended in draw. I might have won this on turn 4 but as said, we were both too tired to keep on playing...
Anyway, thanks to all my opponents and sorry if I was grumby old guy, the flu and tireness was not helping at all...
And then to EC: well I used only one Legionnaires formation so that was not that much annoyance. I really abused all possible rules when playing, including fearless retreat, fearless scout retreat, and retreat and objective system in general, to prove my point in that some rules should be changed (instead of changing units. You really cannot remove fearless from titans, can you?).
New chaos flyers: Hell Talons suck. They sucked in first match, they sucked in second, and they sucked in last. Should have had 2 squadrons of Hell Blades (no minis, tho). I might consider taking Hell Talons if they would cost 150 for 2 with those stats we used.
About Epic:A in general: I still have problems with this objective system, with single units marching around the field claiming objectives and routed formations blocking those march paths... Some brief ideas, lets not discuss here but in Rules section.. - size of formation close to objective could have some effect - i.e. you could only contest if have at least half the strength around - all formations could be able to hold objectives (but broken ones not that well, i.e. this requires above idea) - units might be able to move through broken formations - retreat move could have some limitations (hard to word...)
