I think much of the disatisfation that has arises over painting scores is the fact that it's only the really exceptional armies that score anything other than 30, and there's not much in the scoring system to differetiate between really nice armies. If the scoring method is going to be so arbitary and simplistic what's the point?

As far as I'm aware only one EPIC army (Kevin's Sisters / Demonhunter army) scored 30 points within 2009.

There are four categories at the moment:

- Painted and Based
- cohesive
- High Quality
- Wow

So there are two categories which helps differetiate between the really nice armys ... high quality and wow.

If there was a more involved painting competion that ran alongside the tournaments and the championship leading up to ... the GT...

I hadn't thought of that, that it could be a long running 'championship' of its own in a way, if run at every event, or at least at a significant number of events... would require a lot of organisation, at the least it'd need someone who had the time available to turn up at every event the painting challenge was to run at and taking photos and to count peoples' votes (I assume it'd be all done democratically, rather than 'judged').

I'd probably add 'best painted command unit' to my list above, that's a neat category.

It'd be good to have a 6mm Golden Daemon in some manner anyway I think, with lots of categories... probably only workable at either one tournament a year, or one per quarter at most.

I think you need to check the GT score sheets then! Scores seem to be out of 40.

Sorry Rug ... my bad.

I though it was out of 30 for a minute ... however the main point is that there are two categories to seperate the high quality armies from the wow.

The problem with this is space. You need space to present the armies to look at as well as space for entrants that want to enter the painting comp but not the tournament. There isn't the space in the venue we currently use to co-host such an event IMO.

In reality the only hall with enough space currently is probably WHW, and that's pretty full when the open wars are on.

I hadn't considered that people would want to do this, though I suppose it is technically possible... I more thought it'd just be a more involved painting competition for the tournament attendees, rather than an entirely seperate event.

Can't say I'd be entering as I paint because I have to to play!

Ben the venue for that is Salute, there is none bigger. Though I realise the thought of travelling a few hours fill Northerners with Dred. A second option could be britcon, though I haven't been for a few years so don't know what space is like for them currently.

Salute has pretty much zero Epic presence at the moment, though there has been some spitballing about putting a display board together to show it off there.

Well if you consider how many Epic players there are in London it can't be that hard :)

As those who were at the glamrock AGM know painting will be altered next year...

In what manner?

Painting scoring system has now been changed in the rulespacks (on EpicUK site) to the changes agreed at the AGM.

1 Day tournament

20 points painted and based
2 points cohesive
1 point high quality
1 point Wow

for a maximum of 24 points

2 Day tournament

35 points painted and based
3 points cohesive
1 point high quality
1 point Wow

for a maximum of 40 points

Everybody ahould score either 20/35 depending on the tournament length and then the points on offer for cohesiveness(which most players should recieve) high quality and WOW has been reduced from 15 to 5

It's already been altered in the rulespack on our website - not that anybody reads the rules pack
