Thanks for speaking your mind. For what its worth, I think there are many who support most of what you propose including me - don't faint.

The only thing that I disagree with is the pre-planned "team" drawing mechanism, which would mean that multiple teams from any country would end up playing people they already know. Indeed, should a country field 3 or more teams (a distinct possibility for the UK where there are 20-30 active players), the current drawing mechanism may well result in most of their games being played against people they already know, which defeats the main aim of the meeting as far as I am concerned - but you already know that.

I have also proposed ways that the draw could be re-organised such that no-one plays anyone form the same country, whilst retaining the excellent "Team" approach. If you changed this one detail, I would be overjoyed to come over and I suspect that others would be happier as well, and indeed this might boost the current attendance.

For me the attraction of the event is its team nature, if it was a singles tournament I wouldn't be going.

The issue of playing your own countrymen on a different team is being a bit overblown. 8 people expressed interest from the UK 2 pulled out for personal/cost reasons. The team was selected from the other 6 leaving 2 unselected.

Even if the 2 find another 2 for UK lI or joined a mixed team in 5 rounds they aren't likely to play more than 1 compatriot

A question on stuff covered in the five minute warm-up e.g. pre-measuring, terrain definition and barrage template coverage. Will there be a tournament standard or will it be left up to the players to decide?

For example, I played in a Swedish tournament years ago where I assumed that for a unit to be hit by a barrage it was enough for one model on the stand to be under the template. My opponent informed me that at least fifty percent of the miniatures on the stand had to be covered. I argued that my way was the one recommended in the rule book if the players cannot agree (which means that it will in effect always be the rule as the players with a barrage advantage will want to push that advantage I think). We asked the organiser and were told that my opponent was right. No hard feelings from my side, a ruling is a ruling, but I'd like to know such things in advance.

I think there will be a tournament pack (hopefully soon) with the details of how terrain etc are being played

I'm pretty shure the rules/FAQ state, that there must be only one of the miniatures under the template.
Showing the paragraph in the rules/tournament pack to your opponent should be enough to settle issues like that.
Anyhow, there will be a refree at the tournament just call him and let him decide, don't let anybody bully you.
It will be very helpful, if you have the rules/FAQ regarding the topic at hand so the refree can check on the rules more quicly.

I've started on the TP, but as everything else it takes time, and it's not as much fun as playing

No worries brumbär, I'm currently re-reading and underlining my copy of the rules. It's the only reason I even remembered that old episode.

Way to go Steve and the Brits! We're still deliberating on the choice of hotel but I've let the rest of the guys know which one you picked. We're quite spread out across the country so we've made separate travel arrangements. I'm flying down from the West Coast also arriving Friday evening (8.30pm) and leaving at 9.30pm on Sunday.

Though there is still time left from registration, it is very unlikely that we could muster another two guys to have a team of four. Time & Money are the issues mainly. No matter how much I would like to be there, we have our limitations.

Well the two of you could still come. If you form a team with two of the extra german or enlglish players that have expressed interessed. I at least think Steve and Brumbear have said that there were more people interested from both countries.

that's sorry news.

The Austrians, whom your well acquainted with as far as I remember, find themselves in pretty much the same situation.
If you have two players that are really interested to come, it may be a good idea to speak with the Austrians.
Alternatively if the two players really want to attend, they should post in thread mentioned by Ginger.
