Not sure if this is a first but no marine armies made it into the top 8 on Saturday...

A good tournament with three good games as usual, did find the game timings a little strange though. I think it was probably because of the Warmachine tournament which was doing 4 games over the day and the shuffling to accomodate that caused some odd timings.

Game 1. vs Charles (Codex Marines)

Charles had a nasty looking Marine air assault list but admitted he was a little inexperienced with it. He attacked far to early and was also unlucky with his dice so one of his assaults bounced and the other two could be counter attacked by most of an Eldar army.

This mistake was compounded by me having great dice, so that half way through the second turn charles was down to a broken Warhound and some Marine Scouts. At which point we called the game.

Game 2. vs Dave T (Blood Angels)

Got out played by Dave in this one, set up my army too spread out worrying about his spaceship. Compounded this with some poor choices during the game as Dave kept the pressure on. Standard win for the Marines as Dave broke and destroyed my flak early and kept me behind the activation curve the whole way. Recycled Termies basically sealed an easy 2-0 Marine win in the third.

Game 3. vs Simon P (Feral Orks)

Game started well as my highly mobile FF army just cut Simons support elements to pieces, Simon played a good defence though and going into the 3rd and 4th turns the Eldar were forced to confront the lumbering Orkeosauruses needless to say the battle started to turn at this stage as Eldar died in droves. Just managed to sneak a 2-0 win in the fourth mainly down to having a good activation advantage.

Came seventh in the end and took the best army award, which I was happy with.

Nope, AndyG was left to run the WM/H himself as they were playing different times in the afternoon... Had Steve been left to sort out the Epic I sure we wouldn't have had the odd 2nd round match ups or the frankly ludicrous 3rd round draw.

And I shall leave my mini rant there :)

It was a bit strange on the draws, although it did give me the opportunity to play 2 people i've not played before, and also test my mettle against the mighty Dave, so i'm not complaining :)

I've pointed this out to the vets, I think it was a bit confused as it was a new team doing it plus the M1 delays, initial registration going wrong and a number of 40k players leaving after game 2 as they weren't doing well

can someone explain what was so bad about the 2nd round draws?

I didn't realise there were any problems myself, I'd be interested to understand what went wrong.....

Lets just say the final round wasn't really a true swiss draw with team's figured in :) No biggy but moving up 3 tables was a bit of shock for me lol.

People left just because they weren't winning? seriously? that's a bit grim.

! Ah diddums!

Now you mention it, I did wonder about the third round draw at the time, with my second round opponent being one table down from me.

Still, the Great Gargant and I had three entertaining games (thanks to Alan, Erin and Kevin), and surprisingly appeared to finish sixth! :o

The GG may yet come to another tourney this year!

The one thing that totally threw me was that my registration emails said I was entry #43, but when I signed in in the morning, had a cheeky peek at the numbers on the list and I appeared to be #51 - bit on the confusing side! :)

Apparently the problem was that the programme automatically seperated people in the same team but when players weren't in a team it counted them as 'team blank' and seperated them too which lead to a very shuffled draw
