Agreed, given the time constraints of GD, a true team tourney may not work well.  I like the tag team event if needed.  This allows players to see more of games day as needed.  Make it a mandatory swap out each round though or perhaps you pick the player before annoucing the opponents or you run the risk of having players see who they are playing and picking the player better skilled at beating that army.

I for one will play straight through since I have either worked or played at every Baltimore Games Day save one.  Much better to play though..tear down is a bitch!

Mosc,
Can you post a list of the legal armies so far?  I'd like to see what my options are.  Since nids may be out  :_(, I'd like to see what guard options are available, im thinking DKoK (so I can actually play out my Vraks campaign).  I'd like to get a new army done for this event.  My only fully done force is Savlar Chemdogs (even modelled with little greenstuff backpacks)

Unofficially, count on...
Eldar (Biel-tan, Ulthwe', Saim Hann, other?)
Dark Eldar (Raiders list)
Necron (Raiders list)
Minervan (Raiders list - although I may disclude use of the Stormhammer as a quick tournament fix to the list)
IG (Steal Legion, Elysian?, DKoK?, Cadian?)
Orks (Speed Freaks, Other?)
Space Marines (White Scars, Scions of Iron?)
Tau? (leaning toward yes if Honda manages to straigten them out)
Squats (Thurgrimms, Demiurg)
Inquisition (Ordo Xenos, Ordo Malleus?)
Titan (AMTL 3.xx, OGBM?, no Knight or Lugganath lists at this time)

This doesn't mean I won't include others.  I just want to be able to review the lists on a case-by-case basis.

I am interested in coming to this. I don't play any GW games except Epic. And do the sheer volumns of epic players in my area, that means I never get to play!

go Games Day!

Gorgor,

It would be great to see you at the tournament.  What armies do you have and what are you keen on playing?  Are you more interested in the tournament or one Big Battle Team play?

As for not having anyone to play against, allow me to solve that problem for you.

http://groups.google.com/group/mid-atla ... ster?hl=en

A good fella by the name of Jonathan (a.k.a. Toadchild) set it up just today.  I think you will find the number of players in your area to be significant.  Sign up and add your information to the list.  I promised the Mid Atlantic group that the first two guys that played against 3 new players would get a copy of Raiders from me (the ones with the extra-pages).  I'm trying to encourage play of Epic especially in the MD/VA/DC area since these are the people most likely to show for Games Day.

Hook up, make some new friends, and have a good time warming up for the tournament.  I've met most of them and there isn't a bad guy among them.

This is great! Thanks for the link.

I have a very large collection of Orks and would be bringing them of course!

Amusingly after the fact...  :vD

So I may end up coming after all to Games Day, although I'll probably end up sucking the entire time.

Now to just get back to building my support (read: flyers) and painting.

Glad to hear it.  :D   Now that there are plenty of people to play against in your area you should have no problems getting some practice in.  And in the end the fun of the tournament is getting to play against different people and seeing different armies and tactics.  Winning is always nice but it isn't everything (I know, how cliche').

I need some final feedback by the end of today on this:

I got word that we can have people start registering by as early as 0900 hours.  Unfortunately, that still leaves me with the dilemma:

Do I run a 2-Round tournament or a 3-Round tournament?

Two rounds will mean a LOT more time to get Games Day stuff in, but it is also limited in its scope and is terribly unforgiving.

Three rounds will mean more playing but the schedule will be packed as tight as sardines.  45 minutes TOTAL down time.  The rest of the day will be spend playing.

The short day makes having a classic tournament difficult at best.

I am leaning toward two rounds, but if I get enough feedback for three rounds then I'll do it.

This may be considered heresy... but would you consider doing lower point value games... say 2000-2500 to speed things up and allow three rounds?

I'd vote for three rounds to get as much Epic in a day as possible!

the only reason i'm coming to games day is for this epic tournament so i vote 3 rounds.
of course if you only went with 2, i suppose you could have pick up games on the down time.

Since you need an answer by the end of the day, I have to say that I won't be attending.

DS, you misunderstood.

I am looking for feedback on the tournament format by the end of today.  Registration will continue till about a week before the event so you have plenty of time to wuss out.

Oops! Either format is fine by me. Even though I have little interest in seeing the 40k stuff, I've never been to Games Day and it would be nice to have time to look around, especially given the exorbitant entrance fee. However, the main reason for me to attend is to play Epic. So, the more Epic, the better.

3 rounds with the optional swap out of a general sounds fine by me. Just have a clause in there that says if that army wins the swapping generals have to split the prize.

I'm fine either way really. Like mnb said, if I want another game a pickup is fine by me.

Hmm. Before last tournament I was all for three rounds, but I have to say the 2-round thing worked very well. It allowed the games to be unhurried (I'm a slow player) and still had time to run around and see stuff. That said, the three round thing would allow us to face off against more players.

Overall I think I'm leaning towards 2 games rather than 3, but truthfully either works for me. Just bear in mind that you need to give enough time for everything - for example, I will probably want to enter something into Golden Daemon and there is usually quite a queue at the start of GD. Not that I was on time.
