Has anyone attempted to make an army list of forces under the command of a Rogue Trader?  I'm talking about their forces under the fluff from 40k: RT... Marines, Guard, Squats, Eldar mercenaries, Ork recruits, various other aliens employed (or enslaved) by the RT...

If none exist (or if existing ones are not actively being developed) I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

I envision main formations being SM/Guard units (possibly squats too), with additional formations of Eldar, Orks, etc being allowed after main formations are taken.  Who knows... maybe dinosaurs from the day of RT should make their debut in Epic?  :p

There's an "Imperial Crusade" army I've worked on that combines Imperial Guard and Space Marine formations that can be found in the draft NetEA Army Book.

No xenos in it though.

ok i guess i'm going to look stupid here but, what exactly is the overview on rogue traders? how can you have IG, orks, and eldar all on the same list?

Well, it's a little "old school" to allow such a mix, but Rogue Traders can get away with a lot of odd things out on the fringes.

I'd be dubious if they could field such an army size to work in epic scale. More understandable in 40k.

Agree. I was waiting for someone to say it.   :agree:

Others are incredibly wealthy and powerful and have whole fleets and entire private armies at their disposal. Certain favored individuals may even call upon detachments of Space Marines having entered pacts with individual Chapters.

Here's a time and place to mix and match and still keep balance.

Personally I would make such a force (mech) infantry and scout heavy.
Both for exploration and mercantile expeditions.
A chance to use bigger formations of Ogryn and Ratling and also Squats.

Even is you command one ship you will have a crew of 10,000 or so. Men are plentiful. Go to a prison colony, transfer to a frieghter, unload at destination and hand out lasguns via crate, terrify natives.

I guess the basis for such an army would be primarily IG with a higher potential amount of abhumans with limited options for basic Xenos/Rare units. Xenos would have access to basic troops and some basic weaponry where appropriate. (No Eldar tanks. Squats might get some artillery (Thudd guns/Mole Mortars etc) but not a Leviathan)

Standard Units
IG Troops
Ratlings
Ogryns
Chimeras

Xenos Units would have an Army limit (say 25%) and some unit limits
Eldar Guardians
Eldar Rangers
Squat Warriors
Squat Thunderers
Tau Firewarriors
Combat Servitors
0-1 Marine Tacticals/Deathwatch
Limited Inquisitorial Allies/Sisters

If well done such a list could be very interesting! Im thinking very light, a lot of infantry, and only small formations of light tanks; rhinos and russes, but no superheavies, perhaps warhounds but no heavier titans... Could be cool, and could make for REALLY cool looking armies on the tabletop: orks, Ogryns, and ig troopers all in one type of camouniforms! And please IG troopers with rhinos!

Look at the "Book of the Astronomican" for inspiration!

@Hena
I agree, this type of force would be more functional in 40k.  However... I have a lot of different minis lying around in my bitz box that could use some paint!  I think it'd be reasonable to have an army list representing a landing force under the command of an RT.

My aim is to keep the list reasonably true to the fluff from the actually 40k: RT book.  Some units I plan to include of the top of my head:

SM Tacticals
SM Land Raiders (popular in RT... I have to include them!)
SM Dreadnoughts
SM Rhinos
IG Infantry (or human recruits)
IG Rough Riders (or mounted alien troops)
IG Leman Russes
IG Chimeras
IG Artillery of various sorts
Ogryns
Ratlings (maybe)
Squat Warriors
Squat Thunderers
Squat Artillery (Thudd Guns, etc)
Ork Boyz
Ork Buggies
Ork Battlewagonz (the Orks have to meet up with the RT somehow...)
Eldar Mercenaries (stats will probably be similar to rangers)

I may end up making a new unit to represent human recruits (rather than lumping them in with Guardsmen).  Imagine Gretchin... but human!  In addition, alien auxiliaries would be limited to a certain percentage of a total army.  25% sounds accurate to me.

Unfortunately, I am a fairly busy college student - results may take some time.  I appreciate any input you all may have.

Regards,
Andrew

I guess you could have 'common' choices. So no elites like terminators and dreds, but tacticals in rhinos, no problem.

sounds cool. if your using aircraft or the warhound you might want to bump the 25% to 1/3, which seems to be the norm in most lists for planes/titans. of course if you did not take airpower this might be a nice place to add AA infantry that was being talked about on a different thread.
