The initial assault of a tyranid invasion is often the most brutal part. As wave after wave of drop pod smash into the planet, either disgorging countless scythed killers, or start the process of terroforming the planet.
Such a sight is often unnerving to many of the defenders, who haven't seen a tyranid invasion before, and is often enough to break their morale, despite the tyranid bio constructs used been much easier to best than those found in later phases
All Tyranid formations get an extra +1 modifer when resolving assaults. This is to reprsent the relative greenness of the enemy. |
This might work. I would prefer to call it something like 'unstoppable tide' though. Still, this could be an interesting addition, without being over-powerful. I also considered having the Tyranids never suffering negative modifiers in close combat resolution due to being outnumbered... but perhaps a blanket +1 is a better and easier idea.
So, what is left?
Points cost of Bio-Acid Pods/Accelerated Flora Spores (= Drone Escort vessels).
That is about it!

Actually, I have a few ideas. Let me work on them over the weekend and come back with some Vanguard Drone types. I think that we should have a basic transport type available each turn for free, and then pay to upgrade that Drone to support versions.
When I have this ironed out, I will collect the list so far and bundle it into PDF for download.
Thanks.

I'll wait with baited breath.
I couldn't figure out a way that wouln't be over powered (ie only using bioacid pods for the first two turns then spending the next 2 podding units onto the objectives.)

Quote (ragnarok @ 02 Feb. 2006 (09:53)) | I couldn't figure out a way that wouln't be over powered (ie only using bioacid pods for the first two turns then spending the next 2 podding units onto the objectives.) | That is one of the reasons why games including a Seeding Swarm have to meet both of the two victory conditions (capture three objectives and Break Their Spirit). Podding in wont do it alone.
I am also tempted to add a third, where the force must destroy half (by points value) of the enemy total formations as well.

I'm not sure about making the seeding swarm have to BTS as an objective.
A warlord titan or necron aonic orb will make such a task almost impossible.

That is a good point. How about replacing it with destroying half of the enemy points value in formations, along with objective capturing?

That could work. If that is too difficult it could be reduced again to break so many formations.

mumble.. mutter.. grumble..
Sure, ummm, not sure when. I have the docs and files stored away, and they depend on the Tyranid force for characteristics and rule, so I will need to refres my knowledge of the rules.

My Vanguard fleet? It is being slowly worked on...
Seriously, I recently looked at all of the projects that I have started or got interested in, and shuddered. I need to focus and cut down on immediate goals, and stand a chance of actually finishing something!
The vanguard fleet is on a back burner - but is a modelling project since it uses the standard rules.
