Similarly, the Glavian pilot simply represents the Inquisition have the finest pilots in the Imperium... but since Glavia is the only such example that comes to mind and everyone that's read the books will have a pre-existing empathy for Betancore, why not actually call it that?

If its meant to be a generic good pilot then a specific name seems to be the opposite of what you want.

In any case, I really don't think DC3 or more is justified for a gun-cutter.

I don't really have a massive issue with regarding it as an Ordo Helican list - I make no apology that it is decidedly based on Eisenhorn, so it might be a good idea. The only problem is that in terms of writing background blurbs for the units it constrains me somewhat.

As with many of the units in the list, I've gone for a specific name (e.g. death cultists) to represent a generic unit (i.e. highly-skilled power-weapon-wielding nutters). Rather than calling the unit "highly-skilled power-weapon-wiedling nutters" I've listed them simply as "death cultists" and put in a note that this can represent chrono-gladiators, crusaders, Cathaeyan swordmasters, whatever.

If I call it "flying ace" then it begs the question - why don't navy aircraft get flying ace characters? Surely they have flying aces too? Whereas if I call it "Glavian" - yes, it need not necessarily actually be a Glavian - you've immediately got the mental image of the finest pilots in the sector and some idea of how a pilot can possibly turn a war engine-sized flier into a intercept-capable craft.

Back on topic, yes, I suppose leaving them as bog-standard fliers might be the best course of action. If only because it saves another special rule and it probably isn't going to come up that much. That said, I quite like the idea because it differentiates the aircraft from all others, it is justified by the IA fluff and it might make for an interesting little mechanic. I might try it out and see how it performs on the tabletop.

Possibly because dealing with 'ace pilots' and the like is simply not appropriate for Epic.

I think aEpic has enough Characters as is, more just leads us down the dark path toward Herohammer Fantasy...

Found this in the Dark Heresy Wh40k roleplaying game about the Gun Cutter:

This is the description from Dark Heresy:

Guncutter
Guncutters are custom-designed heavily armed shuttles and landers, often favoured by Rogue Traders, explorers, and less savoury
elements. They are also serious firepower mounts, designed for space, though many can also make shuttle runs planetside as well.
They are clearly combat-ready and usually covered with heavy weaponry. As such, they immediately project an intimidating
appearance, and are often useful for dangerous negotiations and smuggling operations. Most can only carry a small crew and a
limited number of passengers or hive value cargo, sacrificing capacity for speed, armament and protection.
Type: Military Craft
Size: Massive
Armour: Front 30, Hull 25
Traits: Anti-Grav, Void Capable, some will have Interface Controls
Narrative Speed: 500 kmph/2500 kmph
Combat Speed: 50/850/1700/2550/3400
Handling Modifier (Pilot (Military Craft): 0
Armaments: Multiple heavy mounts (e.g. Prow mounted quad las-cannon, wing mounted missile launchers armed with krak
and frag missiles etc.)
Crew: 1 (Pilot), 1 (Gunner/Co-pilot) Passengers: 12
Access Points: Two forward hatches to cockpit and rear cargo/boarding hatch

KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Either have them as flyers or as skimmers. I see no need at all for yet another special rule in an already somewhat bloated list.
