Battle 9 of those fought as part of my Epic War! Campaign. To find out more about the Campaign, please see this thread; viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24706 Which units were used for this battle can be found on the campaign force lists in the same thread. To help, the Marine force used was under code M81, the Eldar E8. The battle was fought on city terrain (G12 on Campaign Map). The Marine army was on Advance orders and the Eldar on Charge. The Marine player would automatically have initiative on turn 1 of the battle. The Eldar set up within the standard deployment zone but had to place all of their forces before the Marines had to set up. Both sides fielded armies worth 4,000 points each. The Eldar force had been created from the reserve pool and was untested in battle. Meanwhile, the Marines had tasted success in conflict (see Battle 7) but had a weakened force due to casualties sustained in that encounter. With this disadvantage in mind, the Marine player set up almost all of his forces on the right flank of the board. To secure a win, one side had to score 45VPs. |

Turn 2: A unit of Rhinos find themselves jumped by Jet-Bikes on the far right flank and further close combat ensues, resulting in the Jet Bikes being broken. A squad of Predators unleash everything they have at their closest target, the Warlock who is in a nearby building. Even with cover, the Warlock cannot escape the full fury of this detachment and is swiftly eliminated, giving the Marines some cheer. It is short-lived however, as Grav-Tanks claim revenge by eliminating the Predators. Worse still for the Marines is that the Land Raider company takes further punishment and also breaks. With more units repositioning, most notably the Warlock Titan, the Eldar are tightening their grip on the battle... Marines: 21 VPs Eldar: 35 VPs

Turn 3: On the left flank, assault troops catch Grav Tanks attempting to outflank the Marine rear guard and destroy them. In the centre of the board, the Warlock Titan continues to inch ever closer towards his opposite number. But the Reaver is either unconcerned or unaware of this approaching threat, as his focus lies upon a building where Exarchs have taken up position to fire upon Devastators. The Reaver's Quake Cannon roars and the building shakes and crumbles to the ground, entombing the Eldar elite in a dusty grave of mangled steel and broken concrete. Marines:25VPs Eldar:35VPs

Turn 4: The remaining assault troops on the left flank move through the woods, intent on capturing objective 6 in the next turn. Terminators move into the central building to take cover from the Avatar who manages to engage and slay a Tactical trooper in combat, breaking a Battle Company. The Reaver is caught off guard by the Warlock Titan who makes good use of the roads to speedily engage the unsuspecting Titan in close combat. Predictably the Warlock wins, but fails to cause any significant damage upon the Reaver. Two Land Raiders surge forward to steal objective 1 from the Eldar, but their gains are thwarted by jet bikes who deliver a counter-punch by stealing objective 5. Marines: 25VPs Eldar: 44VPs

Turn 5: The battle is incredibly cagey at this stage, the stakes so high that neither side wants to make an error. The Assault troops cannot make it to objective 6, taking cover in nearby ruins. They come under heavy fire and are eliminated. Striking Scorpions back off of objective 2 but stay within the building. Tactical troops stride cautiously toward the objective but do not capture it. The Avatar joins the assault upon the Reaver, but again it resists the punishment meted out upon it! On the far right flank, a lone Land Raider reclaims objective 2 for the Imperium. Marines: 30VPs Eldar: 39VPs

Turn 6: Grav Tanks leap into action on the left flank, taking objective 6 and making short work of the remaining Marine units. The Striking Scorpions finally make their move and butcher both the Terminators and Tactical Troops but are not close enough to take objective 4. The beleagured Reaver finally succumbs to the punishment as the Warlock lands a blow which destroys the reactor. The Reaver is engulfed in a blaze of lava, but when the dust clears, the Marines see that the explosion failed to harm the Reaver's attackers. Tempest fire finally sees off the Land Raider on objective 2 which allows the jet-bikes to retake the objective and seal a hard fought victory in this long battle of attrition. Marines: 20VPs Eldar: 54VPs More importantly however, is that the Eldar success in this battle for the Eldar ensures that they have broken the Imperial army and won the war!

Reedar wrote: Enjoyed this Bissler, cheers. What have you got planned next? Cheers Reedar Cheers Reedar! I'm going to write up a conclusion and reflect on the whole campaign experience. Following that, I'll be reviewing my rules again to see if there are any more improvements that can be made. With this project finally completed I'm going to redouble my efforts on the video battle reports. Hopefully I'll be able to produce something which is far more professional than my disappointing first effort which was a big learning experience. If I can get that sorted, I still hope to produce a video that will teach newcomers the basics of playing NetEpic. Other than that... I hope to start painting my Orks! |

Thanks for posting so many pictures, and for another exciting report. It was a glorious victory for the Eldar, although how that Reaver survived for so long I'll never know. It reminds me of when the Warlord Titan wouldn't go down in that infamous battle in WD143 where the Eldar almost beat the Space Marines in a mighty 6,000 point game. |
