The Planet of Deuteros is within the Molech system and acts as a main supply base for Titan and Guard units heading out system. ![]() Outside the ruined system of Chemosh lies the Mechanicus Complex and Landing field CR771L. Currently docked is the Imperator Titan Dominus Ignis and Reaver Diem Aestus. The Dominus is off-line with its reactor cooled for servicing, meanwhile the Aestus is undergoing significant repair. ![]() ![]() Whilst within the ruined city is a site sacred to the Blood Angels, the Basilica Primus, site of the final battle for liberation some 150 years earlier during which the legion suffered significant losses. To the north of the Basilica lies the Mechanicus hab block which houses the forge workers. ![]() ![]() On this day the landing field is encamped by an Imperial Guard Artillery Company and a contingent of Imperial Fists currently on secondment to the Blood Angels first chapter. ![]() Meanwhile returning from exercises in the east are 3 Battle Titans and 2 scouting warhounds of the Legio Ignatum. ![]() Encamped at the Forge, a mechanised Guard Company, whilst at the hab block the heavy support companies of the Blood Angels. ![]() ![]() Finally the Blood Angels veteran First Chapter are at the Basilica at an honour ceremony for those who died during the planet's liberation. ![]() |

Unbeknownst to the loyalists, the forces of the Arch-Traitor Horus Lupercal have infiltrated Deuteros and are preparing to launch a massive surprise attack, aimed at crippling the Legio Ignatum and destroying the Blood Angels. Units from the Death Guard, Word Bearers and World Eaters move into position around the Bascilica and the Forge. ![]() ![]() ![]() Storming toward the Bascilica the enemy transports disgorge their traitorous occupants, suddenly the Blood Angel veterans are surrounded by a sea of foul hatred. ![]() Alerted to the danger the Titans of the Legio Ignatum accelerate to flank speed to support their Astartes brethen trapped in the Bascilica. ![]() At the same time more traitors pour toward the hab blocks in an effort to stymie any support from the Blood Angel heavy support sections. ![]() |

The Blood Angel Devastators and Vindicators take up firing positions facing the oncoming threat. ![]() Knowing the Fire Wasps would be a real danger, the traitors have deployed all means at their disposal to win this day. Enemy Titans emerge from the north ambushing the loyalist Titans on their march to the Bascilica. ![]() Caught at flank speed and heavily outnumbered, the Legio Ignatum must fight for their very survival ![]() ![]() Amongst the enemy, a Banelord Titan sets it sights on the Reaver Ignea Lex ![]() Whilst a pestulant Warlord of the Legio Mortis engages the Fire Wasp scouts. ![]() The Fire Wasps Warlords must now bear the brunt of the enemy ambush ![]() At the Bascilica intense fighting erupts along the west and south sides of the ruin. The Blood Angels, whilst caught off guard, are never unprepared and their initial salvoes at the charging enemy cut down waves of traitors. ![]() Nevertheless their position looks grim... ![]() |

To the north the Devastators use their firepower to real effect, destroying heavily armoured enemy Land Raiders. ![]() Whilst at the Forge the Plague Towers deal death to the Imperial Guard ![]() The traitorous Land raiders are not so easily disuaded, and return fire destroys the Blood Angel Vindicators. ![]() At the Basilica, well drilled veterans cull the first wave of enemy combatants. ![]() However to the east, Ignea lex is bracketed by fire from two sides, whilst enemy rocket batteries sow terror amongst the artillery emplacement. ![]() With void shields stripped the Ignea Lex is pounded mercilessly by the Mortis engines, a Volcano cannon speaks and with a deafening sound the Reaver's reactor is breached and the proud war engine dies a fiery death. ![]() More explosions sweep the Imperial artillery. ![]() The battle for Deuteros is truly underway. ![]() |

However the Legio Ignatum has been forged in the heat of battle. Despite being docked for repair and in no fit state to fight, the princeps of Diem Aestus marches his Titan to war. He knows that the Dominus cannot fall to enemy attack and that his Titan and crew will sacrifice themselves to protect it. ![]() Despite their accurate shooting, the enemy marines close with the Blood Angel Devastators and their prowess in hand to hand combat begins to tell. ![]() ![]() At the Basilica fresh waves of enemy storm the defences, the Blood Angels are holding out but every casualty hurts. ![]() As the ground trembles under the weight of fire, and with support from Imperial artillery and fliers, the Legio Ignatum vanquish a traitor Titan. ![]() ![]() At the Forge, the enemy encounter much stiffer opposition, Brass Scorpions are pulverised as they advanced. ![]() |

The recent exercises of the Fire Wasps pay dividends, as suddenly in a flash brighter than the sun, the enemy Banelord disappears in a reactor meltdown. ![]() The Titan ambush is going badly for the traitors with two of their number already destroyed. ![]() At the hab block fire support from the Devastators fades and communication with the Basilica ceases, it is now grim hand to hand fighting and the Blood Angels heavy support sections are taking heavy casualties. ![]() Bezerkers make the upper levels of the Basilica and the fighting is brutal. The Chapter Chaplains and Apothecary keep the veterans in the fight but the Blood Angels are in need of urgent reinforcement. ![]() At last, some hope for the forces loyal to the Emperor. The Imperial Fists, dispatched from the landing field, smash into the Cultists near the Forge and reap a fearsome tally. Meanwhile the Diem Aestus keeps up its desperate defence as the Plague Towers attempt to sieze the Forge. ![]() Besieged on all sides the loyalists forces are hard pressed. ![]() |

The Imperial Fists keep up the pressure on the enemy at the Forge but their numbers dwindle. ![]() The lower levels of the Basilica are taken and the forces of the enemy begin their evil ritual... ![]() The Chaos Terminators keep up unrelenting fire on the Blood Angels veterans who are still left fighting. ![]() The battlefield goes dark and foul magiks rack the air, emerging from the shadows Daemons stalk the land. A mighty Bloodthirster of Khorne closes on the Caldarius Regis but even as it does two more detachments of Fists land to take on the beast. ![]() The artillery company collapses as men abandon their vehicles, driven mad by the sight of the creatures that close in around them. ![]() The Guard at the Forge who had put up brave resistance, have no time to react to the Daemons that charge amongst them killing at will. ![]() The last of the Devastators die under the blades of the World Eaters and Death Guard and the hab block belongs to Chaos. ![]() ![]() The Bloodthirster's attack is unstoppable and despite its size the Caldarius Regis is destroyed as the Bloodthirster tears into its head, killing the crew. The Imperial Fists however, will not be denied and the Bloodthirster succumbs to their valiant assault. ![]() ![]() For the Diem Aestus the fight is finally over, assaulted by both Plague Towers, its reactor goes critical. However it was not in vain as its opponents are both terribly damaged. ![]() The Blood Angels realise there is no help coming and prepare to sell their lives dearly in the last fight at the Basilica. ![]() ![]() The Basilica finally belongs to the forces of the Warmaster. ![]() |

Arriving at the Forge the scout Titans of the Legio Ignatum exact a heavy toll on the Plague Towers that had destroyed their comrade. ![]() ![]() The clash between the Titans had rend the very ground apart and in the final stages all were severely damaged or destroyed. ![]() The Forces of Chaos win the day and the Imperial forces suffered terrible losses. However they had affected a heavy price on their attackers and crucially protected the Dominus Ignus, this would prove vital in the fight that lay ahead. ![]() The Battle for the Basilica is over, the war for Deuteros has begun.... |

Great spread, really like the use of old 40k plastic tank sprue search lights as weaponry on the nurgle warlord. |

One of my favourite moments was when a legio mortis warlord appeared on the imperial flank to march on the landing field un opposed (or so it thought) Commander noctis of the imperial fists currently stationed at the landing pad had ordered his Devistator detachment to remain on station as the importance of this instillation in the coming engagements was not lost on him. When the devistators revealed themselves they stripped all of the warlords shields in the first salvo of fire,in reply the warlord ignored them and engaged a fire wasps titan. Legio mortis's mistake, the second salvo from the devistators ripped one weapon clean off, crippled another one, ruined the running gear in one leg to the point where it could not move and could only be issued orders on a 4+ ![]() My Devistator detachment is now know as the "Titan hunters" and are currently receiving honour markings ![]() |
