Post subject: | Eldar v Imperial Guard Assault Battle |
Mission Background: The Biel-Tan Craftworld have launched an assault upon the Imperial world of Sirius VI. As the Eldar landed upon the planet, they immediately launched a full-out assault upon the stronghold of Alawight. The stronghold was a main communications hub for the planetary defences, capturing the fortress swiftly would ensure that the Eldar had the upper hand throughout the war, but they are faced with an substantial and well organizaed Imperial Guard army who have been charged with protecting this key base. If they can hold off for long enough, they will be able to scramble a distress call for relief forces to aid then in repelling this invasion... Aim: It's all or nothing for both sides. The Eldar must capture the stronghold by the end of turn 4 to ensure victory. The stronghold must be cleared of enemy units to count as having been captured. The Imperial Guard will win the battle if they hold the fortress until the start of turn 5. Victory points are ignored in this battle, although units will still break and require to carry out morale checks in the normal way. Deployment: The Imperial Guard may set up anywhere within 2/3 of the battlefield. They can buy all available defences for free and all units count start the game as "Dug-in" (an extra -1 to be hit by enemies). The Eldar may set up anywhere in the remaining 1/3 of the board but must not start within 20cm of any Imperial Guard unit. Note that there is no hidden set-up in this battle. Notes: This battle will be played using the new NetEpic Gold rules. Please note however that the armies have been bought using the original army cards, hence some points costs may not match up to those listed in the N.E.G. books. Also, a very special thank you goes to Ulrich on this forum for suggesting the rules for this scenario. Cheers! The battle ended up being a real epic (pun intended!) played over Friday evening and then the next morning. This meant there was not time enough to play 2 battles so only one battle report will follow. The light in my flat isn't particularly brilliant so I apologise for the quality of many of the pics. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin! |

Centre Flank Deployment The Eldar place less emphasis on the centre flank; some Tempests are backed up by Deathstalker Prism Cannon, 2 Vibro-Cannon detachments and a Warlock. In the strongpoint, the IG have a formidable amount of firepower on display, with the following companies ready to defend the strongpoint with their lives; Shadowswords, Baneblades, Predaots and Heavy (missile-launcher-wielding) Troops. They have additional support in the form of Sentinels and Vindicators. The bunkers and entrenchments will make it incredibly difficult for the Eldar to land any blows upon their opponents...

Right Flank Deployment Two Titans and a squad of Tempests intend to attempt to break the enemy defences. Also in attendance are Dire Avengers, Doomweavers and Wave Serpents which carry a detachment of Striking Scorpions. They will be looking to take on the Imperial Guards' Orgyn and Beastmen detachments within the woods. The Eldar Avatar should be able to assist them in this endeavour...

Turn 1 Left Flank Movement: Imperial Bikes take on Grav Tank Company, but they simply fly off, leaving a behind a company of Guardians to do battle with the bikes! Meanwhile, massive close combat battles rage between Eldar Jet Bikes and IG Rough Riders! Turn 1 is barely underway and it is already shaping up to be a bloodbath!

Turn 1 Centre Flank Post-Movement Things are relatively quiet on the central front. The Eldar's powerful psychic - the Warlock - takes up position in a building but every other unit stays put to engage a long-range battle.

Turn 1 Right Flank Post-Movement Eldar Titans stride forward while the Wave Serpents drop off their troops. The Striking Scorpions are the most feared close-combat specialists within the Eldar army but they will be put to the test when they face three detachments of formidable Orgyns!
