Griffons are wonderful in such a scenario

Have to agree with Scream here
again the "ignore-cover" abillity is one of the best in game

Griffons don't ignore cover.

Hi!

According to netepic rules they do. They are invaluable in siege type scenarios or against any "hard target" hiding infantry.

And that's the only case where griffons are a good choice in a army. Bombards/basilisks/manticores will be a more interesting choice in others situations in addition to their better range.

The Griffin "pie plate" is pretty useful against massed formations like Ork clans, Tac companies or Kroot hordes too. Never really rated the Manticore myself, but Bombards and Basks are staples :D

Bombards, manticores and Basilisks are available in companies, not Griffons and with the lack of commisar support cards, it's not easy to keep the chain of command in the deploy zone if you do not take an artillery company + griffons as support.

I always let command a single commissar or Art. CO. command unit
2-3 Art. Det.
that works well for me
its even better combined with the Leviathan which increases the command radius to 35 cm

I do a diamond with the arty company. HQ in the middle, bask detachment either side, griffons in the middle at front, bombards in the middle at back :)
