Hi All,

Well we manage another game of epic. It was 3000 point per side and it was between Harlequin(4.2) and Codex Astartes (NetEA Tournament Pack 2014)..

I played the Harlequin(4.2) and Trent played the Codex Astartes (NetEA Tournament Pack 2014)

Interesting game as you say. Some observations:-
  • I was intrigued at the inclusion of Wave Serpents; using 5x Venoms is 25pts cheaper (and allows the Harlies to fight mounted in the rare cases where that is beneficial). The extra points can provide other leaders like the Shadowseer . . . .
  • The infantry have Infiltrate which is almost as good as being mounted, and the leaders can command joint attacks on larger targets where necessary. Unmounted, they can also make better use of cover.
  • In particular, the second attack with the Mimes left two units out where they could have moved into contact which might well have had a different result. As it was they did nothing.
  • Cegorach needs carefull placing (as you found out). You need to put him where you expect at least one formation to be able to survive the enemy counter-attacks.
It is also easy to overlook the way he influences the initiative on both sides.
  • I am also interested in the choice of opponent formations - presumably the Marine list was designed both to give the Harlies a chance, to see how they worked in assaults, and to avoid over-exploiting the various weaknesses (lack of AA, lack of air-power, lack of shooting etc)

Thanks for reading…

* I know, that the Venoms cheaper and has advantages, but testing still needs to be done on the other vehicles. So it may mean a few games were there are falcons and Wave Serpents in numbers and no Venoms for a while….

* Opps don’t play a game with eyes hanging out of head, after trying to get over a tummy bug, my apologies. So now you have game showing them not using Infiltrate and I would say the game may have had a different result, since I would have had more targets to choose…

*Cegorach was interesting and I must say fun to use and I can see it been a real pain to lower intiv armies, but yeah I knew I was in trouble, once I had lost both Mimes..

*The Marine list was designed by Britt and is one of his standard armies in a box, as I call them.

Thanks for the report. Did you feel that you needed to commit the Mimes early?

Thanks for reading...

In hind site, I should have left them to turn 2 or 3..But I was trying to throw the flank into disarray and put my opponent on the back foot, before he moved, but he won SR roll.. :)

In that sense, the teleporting Mimes are similar to Tyranid Lictors; fearsome if you win the strategy roll, but easily defeated if the enemy goes first. Here, there was a 50-50 chance of failing, which some might consider to high.
However, they become much more sinister where there is 1-2 difference in the SR, and really lethal against armies with a SR of 1-2 . . . .

Thanks for the battle report - intresting reading.

By the sound of things The Laughing God marker and vulnerable assault units makes this list much stronger against low SR and 2+ Intiative armies. Space Marines offer a challenge so a good list for playtesting.

Will read the rematch with intrest.
