Hi all - 2nd game we got in on the weekend. Army Lists: Yme-Loc WARLOCK TITAN [850] PHANTOM TITAN [750] ENGINES OF VAUL WARHOST [450] 2 Cobra ENGINES OF VAUL WARHOST [450] 2 Scorpion ASPECT WARRIOR TROUPE [250] Exarch, 6 Warp Spider ASPECT WARRIOR TROUPE [250] 6 Shining Spear, Exarch Scions of Iron HEAVY TACTICAL [425] 4 Tactical units, Land Raider, Supreme Commander in Land Raider TACTICAL [350] 4 Tactical units plus transport, 2 Predator Annihilator, Vindicator TACTICAL [350] 4 Tactical units plus transport, 2 Predator Annihilator, Vindicator BIKE [175] 4 Bike Unit TERMINATOR [350] 4 Terminator units WHIRLWIND [375] 4 Whirlwinds, Hunter THUNDERHAWK SB [250] Thunderhawk (Saturation Bombing configuration) FIGHTER SQUADRON [175] 2 Thunderbolt Fighters WARHOUND [275] 1 Warhound Class Titan WARHOUND [275] 1 Warhound Class Titan Perspective: Left and Right is as the Eldar player saw it. Objectives: SM: Blitz centre; Take and Hold 1 on right board edge on centre line; take and Hold 2 on left table edge on centre line. Eldar: Blitz centre; Take & Hold 1 30 cm from SM Blitz; Take and Hold 2 on right table edge 30cm from SM T&H1. Deployment SM: Tactical 1 right edge behind a hill; Whirlwind and both Warhounds in centre behind forest; Heavy Tactical, Tactical 2 and bikes right behind a forest. Terminators held off board. Eldar: Phantom and Shining Spears on right behind a hill; Warlock, Scorpions and Warp Spiders in centre near Eldar Blitz in/behind a forest; Cobras in between both groups in open. Turn 1. This was an unmitigated disaster. First two activations saw the Thunderhawk Saturation Bomber and Whirlwinds (retain) break the Warp Spiders, followed by a failed activation from the Cobra’s. The Phantom and Warlock pushed forward and managed to leave a broken Warhound on 1 DC and almost wipe out Tactical 1 (almost and close are not good enough from 750 - 850 point formations), whilst the Heavy Tactical, Bikes and Tactical 2 started their flanking manoeuvre unmolested down the left, because you know..,the Scorpions failed to activate as well… Turn 2. Thunderhawk Saturation Bomber and Whirlwinds did it again and broke the Shining Spears in the first two activations. Warlock didn’t achieve much other the moving forward and managing to only take down one void shield on a Warhound whilst the Phantom finished off Tactical 1. Heavy Tactical and Tactical 2 continued there flanking manoeuvre but came under fire from the Scorpions this turn at least. Turn 3. Terminators teleport in between the Warlock and the SM Blitz. The 2 Warhounds advance up to within Firefight range and blast away at the Warlock doing a couple of DC. I could see what was coming, so the Warlock engaged both Warhounds calling intermingled and wiping them out for another DC. Terminators spring their trap and engage the Warlock and take it down to 1 DC breaking it, but are wiped out. Cobra’s break the Whirlwinds and finally shoot down some Thunderbolts. The Phantom is to far away to do anything and the Heavy Tactical break the Scorpions capturing the Blitz, whilst Bikes doubles backwards to grab SM T&H1. Scions of Iron win 2-0 with Blitz and Take and Hold. Afterthoughts: I was completely out played by a superior opponent. I tried to do exactly what I did last game, and he wasn’t having any of it. He reduced my activation count by destroying the small formations and then kept at least one blast marker on every other formation throughout the rest of the game which meant even failing one or two activations in a turn was significant. I didn’t keep an activation-by-activation record for this game….I stopped halfway through turn 1 as I was really only playing with 3 activations for most the game anyway! I’m sure someone with more experience with using low-activation armies could have done much better. Going Titan and EoV heavy really make it feel very slow for an Eldar army. Once some of those formations are out of position, they’re just not fast enough to redeploy. Maybe I’m just addicted to Speed 35cm Eldar though? Double Cobras were good again, whilst the Power-fisted Phantom I can live without. With the Warlock in there, it’s just more of the same and is unneeded. So two really enjoyable games and we think the Titan’s in the Warhost section is fine. With so few activation’s the army doesn’t play to the usual Eldar strengths and I struggled to set up late turn for early turn rolling assaults. No Avatar didn’t help either. We didn’t use the upgraded Titan Weapons. This army certainly play’s differently to the Biel-Tan, so I have to give it the thumbs up at this point. But there are so many other builds this list could have at the moment and it is probably too broad and needs to be more focused. I understand RS and PFE are discussing some de-cluttering to focus on what it should be. We did get a third game in but we were a few beverages in by then and Jay wanted to play with the Yme-Loc and I’ve only just finished painting up the core of an AMTL army….. Regards Harry |

TT Sorry, I'm disappointed their are no photo's as well. It's always difficult to get an understanding on whats going on without them, and terrain makes such a big difference. Unfortunately, technology beat me again this weekend. When I download my camera the files are all corrupted. I thought is was a broken memory card and I replaced that and it seemed to fix the problem with some test photos.... but it did it to me again this weekend.... I then thought I'd try to use powerpoint to do some maps (ala old White Dwarf Battle Reports) but I couldn't upload them without them all getting stretched and things moving out of place. In Oz this weekend, we also had the Australian Football League Grand Final and the National Rugby League Grand Final.... time just got away from me so I gave up..... No games for the next couple of weeks (unless Ortron and Cruize get in contact - they be busy with real life atm) so hopefully I'll get a new camera before next game. Again, sorry, and I know it makes reports and the analysis of them difficult without photos. I fear I have failed you all again!!! All praise the Machine God....coz he (or she) does nothing for me..... ![]() Regards Harry |
