Mark and I had a couple of ‘test’ games with the Harlequins to look into various elements of the list. In both games Mark took the following E-UK Squat list:- 300 BERZERKER BROTHERHOOD (1 Hearthguard, 7 Berzerker units, Rhinos, Grand Warlord) 200 BERZERKER BROTHERHOOD (1 Hearthguard unit and 7 Berzerker units, Rhinos) 200 BERZERKER BROTHERHOOD (1 Hearthguard unit and 7 Berzerker units, Rhinos) 200 BERZERKER BROTHERHOOD (1 Hearthguard unit and 7 Berzerker units, Rhinos) 200 HEAVY SUPPORT (6 Thudd Guns) 250 OVERLORD (Overlord Airship) 250 IRON EAGLE (4 Iron Eagles) 175 THUNDERFIRE (3 Thunderfire cannons plus transport) 175 THUNDERFIRE (3 Thunderfire cannons plus transport) 350 LEVIATHAN (1 Leviathan) 500 CYCLOPS (1 Cyclops, Living Ancestor ) Game #1 I wanted to review a pure Harlequin list, so took the following:- Harlequin Grand Masque 575 Harlequin troupe (5x Harlequins + Great Harlequin + 5x Venoms) 275 Promenade (5x Harlequin jetbikes) 325 Promenade (5x Harlequin jetbikes + Troupe Leader) 425 Harlequin troupe (5x Harlequins s + Troupe Leader + Death Jester) 300 Mimic (5x Mimes) 300 Mimic (5x Mimes) 475 Harlequin troupe (5x Harlequins + Troupe Leader + Shadowseer) 325 Promenade (5x Harlequin jetbikes + Troupe Leader) Deployment The Harlies placed their Blitz on their baseline roughly 1/3 in from the right hand edge which the Squats mirrored. Then the Harlies placed their T&H objectives together each about 40cm from the Squat Blitz while the Squats placed their T&H objectives 40cm from the Harlie baseline on each side table edge. Finally the Harlies swapped the Wraithgate with the left-hand-side Squat T&H objective. The Harlequins held back the two Mimes formations and a Jetbike+Troupe leader off-table. The Harlies had no garrisons (forbidden by the list), and the Squats elected to set up a Thunderfire formation in a centralised forward position near the halfway line in some ruins. Both armies spread out along their respective baseline, with the Harlies hiding behind terrain where possible. Turn #1 I decided to keep back the Mimes until turn #2, and we both played very cautiously. Cegorach was placed near the advanced Thunderfire garrison, and the various Harlequin formations advanced into or behind terrain across the table. The Squats equally cautiously stalled a few activations, putting some Berzerker formations on OW, then plinked away at those Harlie formations that were visible, killing three units and breaking a Promenade formation. This stayed broken in the rally phase. Turn #2 Cegorach was repositioned towards the Squat Blitz, covering the Cyclops, Leviathan and an advanced Berzerker formation that had hidden on the other side of terrain from the Great Harlequin’s troupe. The two Mime formations were brought in on the left-hand side of the table to threaten the two enemy WE while avoiding OW from more centrally placed Squat formations.
We decided to call this game a win for the Squats at this point since the Grand Masque had been reduced to four scattered formations two of which were on foot, while most of the remaining 10 Squat formations had not activated. |

What was the thought process assaulting the leviathan with the cyclops in support? Not a master mime fan? Personally I think these are the best upgrade. You would even have (undeservedly) won that assault due to inspiring. What happened with the leviathan and cyclops attacks (4x5+ and 6x4+)? Misses, or saves? |

A mixture of over-confidence, hiding on the far side of the Leviathan to minimise support and also testing the concept of assaulting a WE. Kyrt wrote: Not a master mime fan? I agree that Master Mimes are very usefull, though in this case I was concerned that teleporting the Mime formations near the enemy deployment zone would ultimately leave them exposed to enemy shooting. So I was expecting to control Objectives with other formations, leaving the Mimes more free to attack the enemy. From memory, in the first round the Mimes survived something like 4x hits all told, though they lost 2x units out of 5x hits in the following round. Moral; even with first strike, WE and especially battle titans will be a tough prospect for Harlequin formations. |

I was going to suggest in the main thread removing commander to try to make the characters cheaper, but didn't as I figure that is their only way to take down a battle titan or similar as it stands (aside from kamikaze attacks that is). Sounds like just lucky with the saves then on that occasion |
