Had another game with my Gargants today. This time UvenLord took his Space Wolves to face me. Lets just say that the fierce norse warriors of Fenris didn't make Lemas Russ happy or impressed...at all.

Setup was a usual for me. Blitz in the open, both T&H objectives only 30cm apart just across the midline. UvenLord setup his objectives pretty far apart.
I deployed my whole army on the right flank in one big fearsome blob. Lots of overlapping AA shots to scare away thunderhawks full of termies from alphastriking.
UvenLord spread out pretty evenly over the whole board.

Turn 1: Space Wolves wins initiative but lets Gargants go first.

G: BTS-gargant sustains on predators killing 2 (3BM).

G: Fighter-bombas retain and ground attacks long fangs on right flank destroying 2 rhinos (3BM).

SW: Thnderbolts goes on CAP.

G: Fighter-Bombas ground attack Great Co on right flank. Thunderbolts intercept and kill 2 of them. The Great Co gets 1BM.

SW: Long fangs on right flank marshalls (clears all BM:s) and moves forward.

G: Gargant on right flank doubles and fires on long fangs for 1BM.

SW: Fenrisian wolves marches into forest.

G: Supa-stompa on right flank doubles and fires on long fangs killing 2 and breaks the formation.

SW: Predators hold, even with the help of the SC, and breaks.

G: Supa-Stompa doubles forward up on a hill and fires on fenrisian wolves for 2BM.

SW: Great Co (BTS) doubles towards right flank.

G: Gargant doubles forward.

SW: Fenrisian Wolves marches forward.

SW: Land speeders on left flank marches behind ruin in the middle of gargants deployment zone.

SW: Long fangs doubles into forest on right flank. They fire on Supa-stompa stripping both shields and does 1DC (2BM).

SW: Great Co on right flank doubles forward.

SW: Terminators in thunderhawk ground assaults Supa-Stompa, Flakka Dakka AA from nearby Gargant gives them 1BM. Terminators kills flak wagon and does 3DC of damage (1 is a crit) on the Supa-Stompa for the loss of 2 stands. The Supa-stompa losses the fight and flees towards it's deployment zone.

SW: Thunderbolts intercepts fighter-bombas. 1 thunderbolt is shotdown from AA. 2 fighter-bombas are destroyed (3BM).

END PHASE:

Supa-Stompa explodes from fire.
Thunderhawk and both Fighter-bomba formations gets 1BM from flak shots.
Long fangs fails to rally.
Predators rallies.

Turn 2: Space Wolves wins the initiative.

SW: Long Fangs advances and fires on Gargant stripping 2 shields (1BM).

SW: Great Co retains and engages gargant. The formation is wiped out for the loss of 5 shields (Leman Russ cried a bit here...hehehe)

G: Gargant on right flank engages long fangs and intermingles wolfguard terminators. Both formations are wiped out for the loss of 5 shields (ouch! twist the knife Mork!)

SW: Fenrisian wolves engages gargant on hill. The wolves are wiped out for no damage (they just keep on dying!).

G: Fighter-Bombas stands down.

SW: Land speeders doubles to forest and fires on Gargant stripping 1 shield (1BM).

SW: Fenrisian wolves retain and engages gargant. 5 stands out of 6 are killed for the loss of 3DC (with the support of MW FF from land speeders). The gargant wins the combat.

G: Supa-stompa on right flank doubles and fires on broken long fangs wiping them out.

SW: Predators marshalls, clears both BM:s, and moves towards left flank.

G: Gargant engages land speeders and wipes them out for no damage (Waaaaagh!)

SW: Great Co (BTS) doubles towards left flank.

G: BTS-Gargant doubles but doesn't move at all.

SW Thunderbolts ground attacks supa-stompa for 1BM.

G: Fighter-Bombas stands down.

SW: Thunderbolts stands down (even with the help of the SC).

SW: Thunderhawk stands down (they're too scared to fight after their army has been massacred!)

END PHASE:

Fenrisian Wolves fails to rally.

G: Gargant advances and fires on BTS-Great Co killing the hunter (2BM).

SW: Thunderbolts ground attack gargant in forest for 1BM.

G: Fighter-bombas ground attacks predators for 1BM.

SW: Thunderbolts goes on CAP.

G: Fighter-bombas stands down.

SW: Predators doubles and fires on gargant in middle stripping 2 shields (1BM).

G: Supa-Stompa doubles and shuffles around a little on the right flank.

SW: Great Co. (BTS) marches to left flank.

G: Gargant in forest doubles and fires on broken fenrisian wolves for no damage.

SW: Thunderhawk ground attacks supa-stompa stripping 1 shield (1BM).

END PHASE:

Thunderbolt gets shot down by flakka dakka AA.
Fenrisian wolves fails to rally.

SW: predators sustains on Gargant for 1BM.

G: Fighter-Bombas ground attacks predators. Thunderbolts intercept and gives the ork planes 1BM. 1 predator is destroyed and the formation breaks.

SW: Great Co goes on overwatch.

G: Fighter-Bombas goes on CAP.

SW: Thunderhawk lands and fires on gargant in the middle for 1BM. Intercepting fighter-bombas does 1BM on the thunderhawk.

G: Gargant doubles and fires on thunderhawk for 1BM.

G: Gargant doubles out of woods and fires on broken fenrisian wolves wiping thenm out.

END PHASE:

Predators rallies.

0 - 0 in objectives.
Gargants win on points 2075 - 535.

My thoughts:

Well, UvenLords list was an extreme assault list with almost no capabilities of stripping shields before assaults. That combined with his crazy tactic of lumping so many formations together within charging distance of several of my gargants lost him the game.
To his defense he said that he would go for a long shot with the engagements instead of playing the sneaky hide and seek game that can win you games against big ass WE:s...

This build has won 2 games now, but both has been against really assault orientated lists. It would be interesting to take it out against a shooty list like AMTL or Steel Legion.

Flakka Dakka feels great, way more orky and balanced than the wyrdboy tower. So thats going to go into the list for sure.

The "Push em..." rule still feels to weak. I'm seriously considering changing it to a auto-fire instead. Less dice rolling and more orky feel.

Got vassal mordoten? would be up for vassaling AMTL vs OGBM one evening some point.

not nice for reavers … gargants will always outnumber them in assaults :P

Well, the point was to outgun them, not assault them remember.... :-)

You're comment about assaults has me curious, was Uneven trying to FF the gargants or was he in CC? If it's CC he he should be ignoring shields.

It clearly is a bit OP since all aircrafts gets sucked into its energy-lightnings and are destroyed!
