Had a game against a Tyranid list today. We went with 4000p since it feels more epic when you can include that many units. Heres the setup. I opted for putting my objectives close to each other on the centerline and my opponent put his on both flanks. I garrisoned the stompa mob on the left flank and my opponent put his genestealers in the center. Ideployed heavy in the center because i was gunning for dominating that area. My opponent spread out pretty evenly except for all his titans that where deployed on the center-left to deal with my gargants.

G: Fighter Bombas ground attack garrisoned genestealers for 1BM. T: assault swarm on left flank doubles forward. G: supa stompa doubles and fires on assault swarmkilling 3 termagants and 1 biovore (2BM). T: brute swarm on left flank doubles forward and fires on supa stompa for 1BM. G: lootas on right flank doubles forward. T: heirophant in center advances and fires on supa stompa stripping 2 shields (1BM). G: lootas on left flank marches towards center. T: dominatrix doubles forward and fires on supa stompa stripping 1 shield (1BM). G: Gargant doubles forward up on a hill and fires on assault swarm killing 1 hormagaunt and 2 biovores (3BM). T: heirophant doubles forward and fires on supa stompa doing 1DC, breaking the formation. G: gargant doubles forward and fires on assault swarm killing 1 hormagaunt and 2 tyranid warriors, breaking the formation. T: assault swarm marches on right flank. G: supa stompa doubles towards right flank and fires on assault swarm killing 3 termagants, 1 hormagaunt, 1 biovore and 1 tyranid warrior (3BM). T: brute swarm on right flank doubles towards middle and fires on gargant for 1BM. G: fighter bombas ground attacks assault swarm on right flank killing 1 termagant and 1 biovore (2BM). T: assault swarm in middle doubles forward and fires on gargant stripping 2 shields (1BM) G: fighter bombas ground attacks ground attacks assault swarm on right flank killing 1 termagant and 1 biovore, breaking the formation. Subterrean swarm teleports in forest on left flank. TURN 2: Tyranids win initiative. T: dominatrix engages stompa mob. 6 stompas dies all in all for the loss of 1DC. The stompas breaks and flees. T: brute swarm retains with the help of the SC and sustains on gargant stripping 5 shields (1BM). G: gargant doubles and fires on brute swarm for 1BM. G: gargant retains and engages brute swarm, intermingling both heirophnats and another brute swarm. the Gargant looses 6 shields but kills 1 carnifex, 3 exocrines, 1 zoanthropeand 2 malefactors (with the supporting fire from the other gargant, 19 FF 3+ attacks is alot!) All 4 tyranid formations breaks! Waaaaagh! T: Subterranean swarm engages gargant. they managse to do 2DC (and 2 crits!) before being wiped out. (2BM) G: lootas doubles into woods on right flank and fires on broken assault swarm killing 1 termagant due to BM. T: assault swarm dobles and firea on gargant for 1BM. G: supa stompa doubles towards middle and fires on assault swarm killing 1 termagant, 1 hormagaunt and 1 tyranid warrior (2BM). T: assault swarm engages gargant, they do 5DC of damage but are wiped out in the process. The gargant breaks. G: fighter bombas ground attacks genestealers for 1BM. T: genestealers engages gargant. They do 1DC of damage before being wiped out (1BM). G: gargant (BTS) by gargant blitz sustains on dominatrix doing 1DC which also i a crit, the dominatrix breaks. T: brute swarm holds and fires on gargant stripping 1 shield (1BM). G: lootas doubles into forest on left flankand fires on broken brute swarm for no damage. G: fighter bombas ground attack brute swarm in middle killing 1 carnifex and 1 exocrine (3BM). G: fighter bombas ground attack brute swarm in middle killing 1 exocrine, breaking the formation. END PHASE: dominatrix rallies stompa mob fails to rally brute swarm fails to rally supa stompa fails to rally heirophant rallies heirophant fails to rally brute swarm rallies assault swarm rallies assault swarm rallies.

BTS objective secured for the Gargants. G: fighter bombas ground attacks assault swarm on right flank for 1BM. T: assault swarm on left flank holds and fires on gargant for 1BM. G: fighter bombas ground attacks heirophant for 1BM. G: fighter bombas retains and ground attacks heirophant, breaking the formation. T: brute swarm advances forward and fires on gargant for 1DC (2BM). T: brute swarm retains and fires on gargant for 1BM. G: Supa stompa doubles to central forest and fires on assault swarm killing 1 termagant, 1 zoanthrope, breaking the formation securing the T&H objective. T: assault swarm on right flank engages lootas. they kill 1 grot and 1 boyz before being wiped out. TSNP objective is secured for gargants. G: gargant doubles to objective on left flank securing the DtF objective. Gargants win 4 - 0 (DtF, TSNP, T&H and BTS)

This was a really fun game. both armies needed to get up close and personal to win the game. My gargants worked great in engagments supporting each other. I was also lucky with some saves. My opponent did a few mistakes in turn 2 and 3 which helped me win more objectives. Right now i don't have any comments on the units. |

Well, no a few days have gone. I've given the battle and the list some thought. I think this was just a bad matchup for the nids. Having to deal with 2 assault orientated gargants in the centre was just to big of a job for them. And close combat assaults should be a gargant list strong point. I didn't think any of the units felt either overpowered or to weak. The obvious problem is that theres certain ways to win that this list can't manage (like taking the Blitz objective). and good objectiveplacement by an opponent can really make it though for the gargants to win on anything else than points in turn 4. |

Yep, especially when facing Marines or Eldar and your opponent opts for spearhead deployment. |
