NetEA Saim-Hann (4.2.1) vs EUK Thousand Sons 3k

This was a game to try out multiple formations of Hornets in the list.
Saim-Hann
1. WR Clan (2 Vipers) + Chieftain, Farseer & +3 Jetbikes (BTS)
2. WR Clan (2 Vipers) + Farseer
3. Shining Spears + 2x Exarchs
4. SoV – 4 Falcons & 2 Firestorms
5. SoV – 3 Fire Prisms & 2 Firestorms
6. Hornets x4
7. Hornets x4
8. Hornets x4
9. EoV – Scorpion
10. Vampire Hunter
11. Vampire Hunter

EUK Thousand Sons
1. Retinue inc Warlord & Defiler
2. Retinue + Rhinos & Vindicator
3. Retinue + Rhinos & Vindicator
4. Armoured Company – 3 Land Raiders & Predator
5. Defilers
6. Terminators + Daemonic Pact (BTS)
7. Warphound
8. Warphound
9. Doomwings
10. Spacecraft
Lesser Daemons (4+3)

Spacecraft was set for turn 1 and no teleporters appeared.
SR to TS
TS – Spacecraft activates. Its Barrage hits one Hornet in Hornet (1) kills it for 2 BM. Pin-point attack shoots the EoV Scorpion and causes 1 wound, 2 BM (no critical)
SH – EoV Scorpion activates before it is broken, doubles with a move, shoot, move back behind cover. TS Retinue 1 is targeted, 1 MW hit which destroys a Rhino.
TS – Doomwings go onto CAP
SH – Hornets (1) regroup, move back behind cover and remove all BM
TS – Retinue (2) double forward into cover
SH – SoV Prisms attempt to double forward, but fail to activate and remove their BM
TS – Warphound (1) marches up straight down the flank and hide behind a hill
SH – WR Clan (2) double forward behind cover
TS – Armoured Company march forward behind a hill
SH – Hornets (2) double sideways and fire on the Armoured Company. 2 hits take out a Land Raider for 2 BM
TS – Defilers advance and fire their battle canons at Hornets (2). 2 hits 1 dead Hornet 2 BM
SH – Shining Spears march across their deployment zone to boost the centre
TS – Warphound (2) doubles and fires on Hornets (2). 2 hits (MW out of range) both saved, 1 BM. Formation breaks and falls back to deployment zone.
SH – SoV Falcons double forwards and across to fire on Warphound (2). Strips a shield & places a BM
TS – SC Retinue advances to fire on the Falcons. Defiler fails DTT, dies and no other units can fire.
SH – Hornets (3) double with the SC re-roll and fire on the Armoured Company, 3 hits, Predator fails and the formation breaks back to deployment zone.
SH – Vampire Hunter (1) ground attacks, is CAP’d for no hits (1BM) and shoots Warphound (2). Strips final shield causing a wound which goes critical, causing a second wound which also goes critical destroying the war engine….
SH – Vampire Hunter (2) ground attacks Warphound (1), 3 hits strip the shields and causes 1 point of damage.
Doomwings fly off with 1 BM and no additional BM on aircraft.
All formations rallied

Turn 2 – Terminators teleport onto SH left flank (no BM). Avatar arrives as close to them as he can, but out of 30cm. – SR to SH
SH – SoV Prisms sustain on the Terminators, 2 lance hits & 1 normal all saved, 1 BM
SH – SoV Falcons double forwards and shoot at the Defilers. Move, shoot, move. 2 hits, 1 dead & 2 BM
SH – EoV Scorpion attempts to advance, fails with SC re-roll. Removes BM
TS – Defilers marshal, shoot SoV Falcons, hitting & killing 1 (2 BM) & remove all their BM
TS – Terminators summon 5 Daemons and engage (with SC roll) SoV Prisms. Prisms wiped out for the loss of a Daemon
SH – Vampire Hunter (1) ground attacks Warphound (1). Warphound suffers a wound and breaks.
SH – Hornets (2) attempt to advance and fire on the Warphound but fail and remove BM instead.
TS – Doomwings go onto CAP
SH – Hornets (1) double and fire on the Armoured Company, 1 hit kills a Land Raider with the other breaking back to the Blitz
TS – Retinue (2) advance and fire on SoV Falcons placing a BM
SH – Vampire Hunter (2) ground attack the Warphound. Is CAP’d, takes a wound (2BM). Score 3 hits on the Warphound killing it.
TS – SC Retinue summons 2 Screamers and engage Hornets (1). Support kills a Hornet & rest are wiped out in resolution. No casualties to the TS
SH – Hornets (3) advance and place BM on the Terminators
SH – WR Clan (2) advance and fire on Terminators killing a Daemon for a BM
SH – Shining Spears march back towards their Blitz and the Terminators
SH – WR Clan (1) double towards the centre.
Vampire Hunter (2) picks up another BM as it flies off. All formations rally except SoV Falcons which have 3 remaining.

Turn 3 – SR to SH
SH – Shining Spears engage the Terminators. Two rounds of combat ensue with the Shining Spears being wiped out and three terminators dying. Last on breaks away.
SH – Hornets (2) advance and fire on the Defilers, 3 hits 2 dead last one breaks.
SH – SoV Falcons regroup and fire on Retinue (2). The vindicator is hit and destroyed for 2 BM. All SoV BMs are removed.
TS – Doomwings go onto CAP
TS – Armoured Company (Land Raider) attempt to go onto Overwatch, fail with SC roll and break
SH – Vampire Hunter (1) ground attacks the Terminators. Get CAP’d and takes a wound (2BM). MW hit kills last Terminator (BTS)
TS – Retinue (2) raises 2 Daemons & engages Hornets (2). 1 Rhino is lost to a DTT and the Hornets are wiped out for no further loss.
SH – Vampire Hunter (2) ground attacks with SC re-roll Retinue (1) and destroys a Rhino for 2BM
TS – Retinue (1) march back to protect the TS Blitz
SH – WR Clan (2) march to take an objective
TS – SC Retinue march forward to contest objectives and move into the other half of the table
SH – Hornets (1) double and fire on Retinue (2) hitting twice, but both are saved 1BM
SH – EoV Scorpion doubles and shoots SC Retinue, 2 hit 1 dead, 2 BM
SH – WR Clan (1) engage the SC Retinue. 1 Jetbike is lost, but the SC Retinue breaks on the roll-off.
Everything rallies and the game is 1(BTS) - 0 to Saim-Hann

Turn 4 – SR to SH & TS lose three Daemons
SH – EoV Scorpion advances, shoots the last remaining Defiler, which saves and breaks
SH – WR Clan (1) engage the SC Retinue, 1 Viper & 2 TS marines die and the SC Retinue breaks again
SH – Vampire Hunter ground attacks the Armoured Company (Land Raider) with the SC re-roll, 2 MW hits are saved and the Land Raider breaks
TS – Doomwings go onto CAP
TS – Retinue (2) summon 2 Daemons and engage the remaining Hornets. The Hornets are wiped out for no loss
SH – SoV Falcons advance and fire on Retinue (2). 2 Rhinos, 2 Daemons & a TS Marine dies – 4 BM
TS – Retinue (1) march forward to get Vindicator over half way and contest an objective
SH – Vampire Hunter (2) ground attacks and fails
SH – WR Clan (2) doubles and place a BM on Retinue (2) which breaks them.

All TS formations rally and there is no turn 5.
Game finishes 1-0 (BTS) to Saim-Hann. Points are totalled up and there is less than 50 points difference

That was a great and Consul Avenging Angel played a blinder of a defensive action. The Hornets are scary, but fragile in formations of 4 and I would rather have 3 Falcons/Prisms & 2 Firestorms for 250pts.

Four Vampire Hunters would probably be excessive and with their potential reach over say an EoV Scorpion, I would say that they should not cost less or even the same as them.

Although I have had games with the EUK list where they have done next to nothing.

I'd be interested to see your results with a spammed Hornet list. After trying 3 formations I feel that one or two would be the max that I'd take as there are better general options that I'd want to include.
