Post subject:  Ork Gargant Big Mob vs AMTL 3K
Ok, had another game with the 3.2 Gargant list yesterday. We couldn't resist doing a Titan vs Gargant battle since it's so iconic and pays homage to the origins of Epic. And it's also super cool to see Big ass warmachines go toe to toe with each other!
I also wanted to see how the gargants did against the AMTL list which has been one of my main references when designing the new Gargant list.
I still want 2-3 battle reports against non WE-lists to before doing more changes.

TURN 1: Gargants win Initiative.

G: Fighta bommers ground attack crusaders on right flank. Reaver AA shots down 1 of them. 3 crusaders are killes and the formation breaks.
G: Fighta bommers retain and ground attacks crusaders in middle. reaver AA shots down 1 of them. 1 crusader dies (2BM).
T: thunderbolts intercept fighta bombas. Flak wagon AA hits 1 of them but they jink to safety.
G: Lootas try to go on OW but holds and regroups.
T: thunderbolts intercept fighta bommers in middle but the ork planes jink to safety. (1BM)
G: stompa Mob in middle tries to go on OW but holds and regroups (thats what you get for trying un-orky stuff!).
T: reaver on right flank advances towards srtompa mob in forest. OW fire from stompas strips all of it's shields (1BM). 1 stompa is destroyed by the reaver (2BM).
G: Supa-Stompa on left flank doubles forward.
T: warhound advances on left flank and fires on stompa mob for 1BM.
G: gargant on left flank doubles forward and fires on warhound stripping all it's shields and doing 1DC (2BM).
T: crusaders in middle marches up to stompa mob in forest on right flank and ZoC them.
G: gargant in middle doubles towards left flank and fire on warhound breaking it.
T: reaver in center suatains on stompas in forest killing 1 and breaking the formation.
T: reaver in middle advances into forest on left flank and fires on Gargant stripping 6 shields (1BM).

END PHASE:

G: stompa mob on left flank doubles forward and fires on reaver in forest stripping 2 shields (1BM).
G: Gargant retains, doubles and fires on same reaver stripping 2 shields (1BM).
T: reaver in forest on left flank marshalls and powers up 3 shields. then shoots at stompa mob for 1BM.
G: fighta bommers stand down.
T: thunderbolts stand down.
G: fighta bommers ground attack (with the help of the SC) warhound on left flank stripping 1 shield (1BM).
T: thunderbolts stand down.
G: lootas near gargant blitz go on OW.
T: crusaders advance into forest on right flank and fires on stompa mob for 1BM.
G: same stompa mob engages crusaders. After 2 rounds of combat the stompa mob loose the fight and breaks. the crusaders loose 1 robot.
T: warhound on left flank marshalls, powering up both shields and shedding 2 BM, and moves forward a little.
G: supa-stompa on left flank doubles forward and fires on warhound stripping 2 shields (1BM).
T: crusader by titan blitz goes on OW (with the help of the SC).
G: gargant doubles to left flank and fires on warhound for 1BM.
T: reaver in middle advances and fires on stompa mob for 1BM.
T: reaver doubles to middle and fires on stompa mob for 1BM (crazy good armour saves by stompa mob twice in a row!!)

END PHASE:
Stompa mob fails to rally.

TURN 3: Gargants win initiative

G: gargant doubles into forest on left flank right next to reaver. Fires on the titan stripping 2 shields (1BM).
G: gargant retains and engages the same reaver in the forest. with the supporting fire of other gargant and the stompa mob the reaver takes 5DC and looses the combat. The gargant takes 1DC.
T: warhound advances up on the left flank and fires on supa-stompa stripping 3 shields. (1BM)
T: reave retains, advances and fires on gargant for 1BM (haha!)
G: fighta bommers ground attack warhound on left flank and breaks it.
T: thunderbolts go on CAP.
G: Lootas doubles towards broken warhound that has fled down the left flank into Gargant deployment zone. they fire on it doing 1DC.
T: crusaders holds and regroups.
G: supa-stompa doubles backwards on left flank and fires on broken warhound for no damage.
T: thunderbolts ground attack lootas killing 1 killa kan and 1 grotz (2BM).
G: fighta bommers ground attack crusaders. thunderbolts intercept and shots down 2 of the fighta bommers. the last remaining one does 1BM on the robots.
T: reaver advances and fires on garagnt doing 4DC of damage (5BM).

END PHASE:
stompa mob fails to rally
reaver rallies
warhound fail to rally.

TURN 4: Titans win initiative

T: reaver sustains on gargant for 1BM (unbelivable armour rolls for gargant here saving 10 hits!)
T: reaver tries to retain but holds even with the help of SC reroll. Fires on stompa Mob for 1BM (here the Titan player almost cried...)
G: gargant doubles forward and fires on reaver stripping 1 shield (1BM).
G: stompa mob retains and engages reaver. They are wiped out and the reaver looses 3 shields.
T: thunderbolts ground atatcks broken stompa mob in middle killing 1 due to BM:s.
G: supa-stompa doubles into forest near Gargant blitz and fires on broken warhound for no damage.
T: thunderbolts ground atatck broken stompa mob in middle killing 1 due to BM:s.
G: fighta bommers ground attack reaver by titan blitz and destroys it (waaaagh!!)
T: crusaders on right flank advances forward and fires on broken stompa mob killing 1 due to BM:s
G: lootas engages broken warhound wiping it out for the loss of 2 boyz.
G: fighta bommers ground attack lone crusader on titan blitz breaking it.
G: gargant engages reaver in middle. With the support of other gargant it does 5DC on the reaver for no damage.

My thoughts:

A very even game. The Titans would probably had won it on points if it hadn't gotten the snake eyes roll for it's second activation. That failed engagement made them loose the game points wise.

The action was very cat and mouse like with both sides trying to get the other to move its reavers/garagant first. I had crazy good armour rolls with my gargants also which helped alot. at least 1 of them should have been destroyed by titan fire.

Interesting. Should be close AMTL vs GBM and has been proven so.

Good game!

I noticed that the attack on the crusaders in T1 you've got listed as 2bm. Crusaders have Automaton which changes a bit how they receive BM. They don't get BM for losses, just for coming under fire so it should have been just 1bm.

Thanks for the report which as Tim says was likely to be drawish given the forces.

I *love* your forests with removable foliage - is that your own idea, or commercially available?

It's my creation but i stole it from a Swedish miniatureblog (can't remember who did it) that one of the Swedish epic players have.

Really easy to do and looks great!
