had my first game with the new list yesterday! Very excited about it and it gave me a few things to think about... TURN 1: Orks win initiative. O: fighta bombas ground attack warhound stripping both shields (1BM). SM: thunderbolts go on CAP. O: fighta bombas ground attack warhound for 1BM. Intercepting thunderbolts only a manage 1BM on the fightas. O: stompa mob retains, doubles and fires on sam warhound braking it. SM: scouts go on OW. O: lootas go on OW. SM: predators doubles forward and hides behind a small mountain. O: fighta-bombas ground attacks broken warhound. they do 1DC and manages a crit. SM: devastators doubles forward and fires on stompa mob for 1BM. O: gargant doubles up the road using it for extra movement. It then fires on garrisoned scouts killing 2 stands and 1 rhino (4BM). SM: warhound advances and fires on stompas killing 1 and breaking the formation. O: Gargant doubles up the road using it for extra movement. END PHASE: 2 formations of fighta bombas looses 1 fighta each due to hunter AA. warhound rallies stompa mob fails to rally

TURN 2: Space Marines wins initiative. SM: warhound marshalls and moves behind small mountain on the right flank. SM: devastators retains and doubles back toward SM blitz. O: fighta bombas ground attack warhound on right flank stripping both it's shields (1BM) SM: predators advances towards gargant and fires on it stripping all 4 shields and doing 1DC of damage (2BM). SM: Scouts retain and doubles up to ZoC gargant and fire on it for 1BM. O: lootas doubles forward and fires on scouts for 1BM. O: fighta bombas retain and ground attack scouts. hunter AA does 1BM on the fightas. 1 scout and the razorbck is destroyed breaking the scout formation. SM: thunderbolts ground attack broken stompa mob killing 1 due to BM:s. O: fighta bombas intercept thunderbolts for 1BM. SM: warhound advances and fires on gargant stripping 2 shields (1BM). O: gargant doubles towards warhound and fires on it. The warhound explodes! Waaaagh!! SM: terminators in thunderhawk ground assaults gargant. they win the combat for the loss of 1 terminator. O: gargant doubles forward with the help of the Warlord into the city. SM: scouts advances into building to ZoC gargant and fires on lootas for 1BM. END PHASE: stompa mob rallies. scouts rallies. gargant fails to rally.

O: fighta bombas retain initiative and ground attacks warhound on right flank. they do 1DC which is a crit and the warhound is destroyed. SM: scouts sustain on lootas killing 1 stand of boyz (2BM). O: lootas doubles and spreads out to cover 2 objectives. they fire on scouts in building for 1BM. SM: terminators doubles to T&H objective. they fire on broken stompa mob killing 1 stompa due to BM:s. O: fighta bombas go on CAP. SM: thunderbolts ground attack lootas. 1 killa kan and 1 grot are killed (2BM). O: gargant engages scouts wiping them out for no losses. claims T&H. SM: empty thunderhawk ground attacks lootas killing 1 boyz and 1 grotz breaking the formation. O: Gargant by ork blitz advances and fires on scouts for 1BM. SM: devastators doubles up to T&H objective to deny the Orks T&H and to be in support range of the coming assault on the gargant. they fire on it for 1BM. SM: terminators in thunderhawk ground assaults gargant. fighta bombas intercept but are shot down by 2 hunter AA shots. terminators do 2DC on the gargant for no losses and wins the combat. O: fighta bombas ground attacks broken devastators for no damage. SM: predators advances and fires on gargant doing 1DC (2BM). O: fighta bombas ground attacks broken devastators for no damage. SM: thunderbolts ground attacks gargant doing 1DC and breaking it. O: gargant by ork blitz sustains on scouts in front of it for 1BM. SM: scouts doubles and fire on broken stompa mob finally wiping it out. SM: thunderhawk ground attacks broken lootas killing 4 stands of boyz and the flak wagon. My thoughts: First off it was awesome to be able to field fully customizable gargants! I really enjoyed the process of arming them and thinkig about how i best could use them. Strategy wise i think it was a mistake to leave my BTS on the Blitz. Yes, it's a easy way of denying two victory objectives. But i think if i would have used the BTS-gargant in the midfield guarding the marine T&H objectives and let the other 2 gargants push more into marine territory i would have won on points. If the Gargant that was on the marine side would have rallied i would actually won on points i think... One thing that i noticed was that gargants have a really hard time rallying. they can only rally on 4+ (5+ if enemies are within 30cm) while their imperial counterparts rallies on 3+ (or 4+ with enemies within 30cm). Thats pretty harsh conditions for a 700 point WE and makes them hard to use offensivly close to their enemies. Someone suggested in the development thread that maybe a special rule where gargants always counts as having more than 10DC when using the "mob Rule" special rule could be introduced. After this battle that feels like an interesting idea... But more playtests are needed first. |

what about adding it to the gork/mork head rule? gargant with a gork/mork head gains +1 to rally maybe? |

Having seen berzerkermonkey's Gargant "Squiggy" fail many a rally roll, I agree that it sucks they're effectively initiative 2+ when rallying. If it proves to actually affect the game too much in this list, the easiest thing to do would be to add a sentence to the Mob Rule special rule saying Gargants and Great Gargants always get the +2 to rally. |
