That DKoK list looks illegal... you can't take a single Gorgon for an infantry company. It looks like someone's used the upgrade that's meant to go alongside an additional infantry platoon, but without taking the required platoon first. That does raise the question of whether you can have a 30-strong company with a single Gorgon (Company + platoon + platoon Gorgon), or two Gorgons. I'm honestly not sure here; I feel that the intent is that if you take Gorgons, you take enough for everyone, but I'm not sure if that's correct. Beyond that... looks like the Kriegers took a very odd list, and made a few mistakes. Lots of formations were thrown away by moving them forwards piecemeal and allowing the Eldar to hit unsupported, isolated, units (what were the engineers trying to do? How were the slow infantry formations supposed to engage anything? why didn't the silo shoot unactivated Nightspinner formations to kill one, break the unit, and suppress the incoming fire, instead of plinking off the Phantom?), so it's hard to comment on the balance of the Eldar force. I kind of got the impression that the DKoK player is new to Epic, or at least the force (were there even commissars added?), but that might be unfair. Back to the report, good to see formations now numbered, and a few longer shots ![]() |

I agree on the weird choices and tactics. To be able to use info for a list you need to play under tournament-like conditions. With players that know how to play to their armies strenghts and of course make legal lists. Maybe it's better to test the Biel-Tan changes at a tournament somewhere? |

The battle was a lot of fun, which is all I ask for in an Epic game. Our SOP for Friday games are usually Greg (sometimes Trent) makes up the armies, often to test some particular unit or army. I seldom know what's being played before I show up. To save time, Greg (sometimes Trent) places the units in their initial disposition. As both are experienced gamers, this is most useful. No, I had never before played DKoK. I have played IG. Nothing I could see on the table was radically different from the norm, and though I lost, the game was most enjoyable and I learned a lot. Yes, I moved forward. Not much is going to be accomplished if I don't. Now that Greg has played Eldar more, he's getting much better with them to utilize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. He deserved his victory. Had the Phantom Titan blown up, which it could have, the game could have been much different. The same goes for a dozen different decisions for both sides. After the last die had been rolled, we were both happy. |

Thanks for the read. You finally managed to get some tripple retains in there! ![]() So, now on to stage 2... ry this: move into supporting range with something and place blast markers. Retain. Engege with another unit, and use their full movement when consolodating to get into supporting range of something else. Tripple retain and engage the "second" unit. Not every game you can get this to work but against DKoK it should be possible as they will have lots of units and probobly cover a lot of ground ![]() A little risky to tripple retain with the fighters just to put them on CAP against thunderbolts, but hey, no guts no glory ![]() Small questions just to confirm that I read the report... Why didn't you use your CAP nightwings when the Thunderbolt did a graound attack? Do you play with "CAP a CAP" and you thought it to risky? When you did the engagement with the Avatar you should have used him as a commander instead. He has 1+ initiative ![]() Do you play with free measurement? (that everyone can measure stuff all the time?) Becouse if my oponent placed his warhounds in front of an unhurt group of falcons so they can sustain they are asking for destruction... Also I think the Phantom - Nightwing "issue" will be hard to test. It's more of a limitation thing then something that will break the game. The Eldar already have lots of toys, do they need to be able to take all of them at the same time? Also do you intend to use these reports as a way of "approving" the recent changes it might be good to give some indication on how experienced the opponent is vs yourself (and to use legal lists ![]() I do not think that every one need to use tournament style lists but it wouldn't hurt. The whole approved, development thing is for balance at tournaments... when playing friends you do not need to follow rules or points restrictions anyhow... Perhaps try to tell your opponent beforehand that you will make a report and that he/she should try and make a "competetive" list with an army he can play... (whatever that means ![]() Until next time ![]() /Uven |

Calico: I didn't mean to insult you or anyone else. I love trying new things and playing around with weird/suboptimal lists too! The issue here (as raised earlier) is that if the aim of the battle is to test proposed changes to a list, both players should really be playing as if it was a tournament. DKoK are a very different army to IG. Your shooting is generally weak, and the army (as it stands) relies on using Gorgons to get masses of infantry into position to support engagements: it's a very specialised assault force, and you *need* to get those infantry blocks into three-to-one outnumbering engagements. The way you play Friday games certainly explains a few of your choices, and I'd love to see another Biel Tan-DKoK battle or two building from what you've learned (I'm also jealous of how often you guys get to actually play E:A). In short: looks like you had fun, and I enjoyed reading the AAR, but it probably doesn't provide all that much info on whether 700 pt Phantoms are fairly costed. Of course, by the time I check this thread next Greg will probably have posted another dozen battle reports under all sorts of conditions :p |
