Something a bit different for the battle reports section today, just a bit of fun. AMTL vs. AMTL titans only with identical armies (4350pt each) on a very terrain heavy/LOS blocked hive/city table (space hulk with titans!). As titans play very quickly we also added in an extended critical table, more like the old 40k vehicle damage table. We used EUK stats just for the extra firepower, trying to keep a mix between not just pointless weapons and not just titan-killers. Didn’t keep full notes as the game moved pretty fast and none of this is useful for play testing or similar anyway.

Image

Legio Rabelais vs. Legio Hekatonkheires (army lists are the same, names colour coded for the titan name from the respective legions) On the table legio Hek are the ones painted in the olive drab with red and white details, Rabelais are the mismatched lot.

Grandgousier/Uranus
Warlord Battle Titan [900]
Legate, Gatling Blaster, Volcano Cannon, 2 Turbo Laser Destructor

Gargamelle/Gaia
Warlord Battle Titan [900]
Veteran Princeps, Close Combat Arm, Melta Cannon, Deathstrike Missile, Gatling Blaster

Gargantua/Gyges
Reaver Battle Titan [650]
Gatling Blaster, 2 Turbo Laser Destructor

Pantagruel/Cottos
Reaver Battle Titan [650]
Close Combat Arm, Lasburner, Plasma Cannon

Slitnose/Ægæon
Reaver Battle Titan [650]
Gatling Blaster, Plasma Cannon, Melta Cannon

Friar John/Campe
Warhound Scout Titan [300]
2 Plasma Blastgun

Panurge/Kētos
Warhound Scout Titan [300]
2 Scout Turbo Laser

Image

Critical hit rules:
Crits are scored on a roll of a 5+ (instead of a 6), for each crit a roll is then taken on the following table (regardless of titan class):
1 – shaken: titan takes +1 blast marker
2 – stunned: titan is on -1 to activate at start of following turn
3 – servo damage: halve titan movement. Titan immobilised on second occurrence
4 – weapon destroyed: roll for random weapon (if same weapon is hit twice advance to next weapon)
5 – shield generator hit: the titan can no longer repair void shields and loses all void shield points.
6 – plasma reactor hit: plasma reactor has been damaged. Roll a D6 for the titan in the end phase of every turn: on a roll of 1 the reactor explodes destroying the
titan, on a roll of 2–3 the titan suffers one more point of damage, and on a roll of 4–6 the reactor is repaired and will cause no further trouble. If the reactor explodes, any units within 5cm of the titan will be hit on a D6 roll of 5+. If a titan rolls this result for its terminal DC loss the reactor automatically explodes.

Table
Table was set up with blocks of ruins (area difficult terrain) and blocks of tower blocks (impassable). The tower blocks also blocked LoS for indirect fire weapons (excessively high firing elevation for weapons to clear). All space between the blocks of terrain was treated as roads.

Image

Objectives
Had planned to do VP based on DC of titan kills plus three table objectives, but we pretty soon decided to just go for all out titan slugfest with no real objectives at all … dakkadakkadakka etc

Turn 1
Legio Rabalais went first, advancing the warlord Gargamelle up just around the corner to the main horizontal road in the opposing half. Legio Hek zipped up a warhound and began to weaken the warlord’s shield with VMB and TLD fire.
Image

Legio Hek then rapidly advanced up a reaver to a corner, with arcs to cover both the road the warlord was near and the central square. With the reaver alone in the open Rabelais charged in with their second warlord. Gatling blasters and TLDs stripped the shields and 1 point of damage, but the volcano cannon missed. Retaining the initiative reaver Gargantua moved up as well, getting in a volley of damaging shots, leaving its target broken, stunned, reduced to half movement and on low DC.
Image

Hek moved in their second reaver, Gyges, to take the place of its comrade and took shields from Gargantua, in turn losing shields from warhound fire. Warlord Uranus then moved up into ruins and took out Grandgousier’s shields.
Image

Legio Rabelais decided against doubling up their deathstrike to go for the stripped warlord. Both sides then moved their second warhounds up to block LoS to the SC battle titans, which now stood across from one another.
Image

Two legio Rabelais reavers started moving on the long edge flank, keeping out of sight behind the skyscrapers. Legio Hek moved their last reaver round to meet them.
Image

Broken reaver Ægæon rallied.

Turn 2
Legio Hek won initiative and retained in the square to bring down Gargantua in a storm of sustained turbolaser fire. Gargantua’s plasma reactor exploded, but the nearby warhound was unschathed by the blast.
Image

Grandgousier marshalled to regain void shileds and then moved around a corner, having no LoS on hostile battle titans due to intervening terrain, warhounds and now titans wreckage. With legio Rabelais’ position in the square weakening legio Hek moved up both warlords, killing warhound Friar John and causing warhound Panurge to flee (fitting for their names).
Image

Gargamelle advanced into melta cannon range on warhound Kētos, breaking it to 1DC. The other Hek warhound tripled round near its retreating colleague, with nothing better to do as it had spent its plasma in turn 1. On the other flank the Hek. reaver Cottos found itself outnumbered and began to take fire, losing 2DC and having its plasma cannon blown off. This left it in a poor state to attempt an assault. It marshals back but is then broken by a second load of reaver fire.

Everything rallies except for Cottos, which flees right back to the table corner.

Turn 3
Legio Hek take the initiative again and retain for an assault on supreme commander warlord Grandgousier. Waiting for a warhound to first place a BM, the close combat warlord Gaia then charged into assault.
Image

The wrecking ball swung and Grandgousier fell, losing all of its remaining 7DC in one round. Gargamelle rounded the corner to advance up the road behind legio Hek’s position in the square, hitting Gyges from the side with melta cannon fire accompanied by a deathstrike. Gyges is left standing but reduced to 3DC.
Image

Having broken Cottos on the flank the remaining two legio Rabelais reavers move round to box in Uranus, taking it down to one void shield and leaving the combat reaver Pantagruel in assault range for turn 4.
Image

Again, everything rallies apart from Cottos.

Turn 4
Legio Hek win initiative again, damaging Gargamelle with warhound plasma and using the half-crippled reaver Ægæon to take all shields and 1DC from Pantagruel before it could assault.
ImageImage

Pantagruel charged immediately afterwards, hitting Cottos, which had stayed in a losing position to protect Uranus from assault. After terrible rolls Pantagruel lost the combat, reduced to 2DC.
Image

In answer to this warlord Uranus dispatched Slitnose with a deathstike missile. Gargamelle fired on Cottos with its melta cannon, brining it down to 2DC. Uranus then rounded on Gargamelle, taking the second Legio Rabelais warlord down to 1DC.
Image

Gargamelle’s destruction soon followed as Kētos put in turbo laser fire from behind.

Results
Legio Hekatonkheires destroyed 2 warlords, 2 reavers and 1 warhound, additionally reducing 1 warhound and 1 reaver reduced to below half DC
Legio Rabelais destroyed 1 reaver, additionally reducing three reavers and 1 warhound to below half DC.

Clear win for Legio Hek in the end, as Rabelais were left with only one battle titan.

Game went very smoothly. Not much in the way of tactics going on but a fast and fun way to burn though a load of points.

unrelated – i'm not reading taccoms at present and probably won't be for a few weeks due to real life. I will check PMs tongiht but am not reading them regularly.

Aquatic plant baskets rule as epic buildings, they make the GW buildings look so inadequate.
