Interesting scenario, and nice report & pics.

Although the sides were not perhaps optimal for this scenario, perhaps modifying the victory points might help balance the result. My suggestion would be to consider awarding a significant amount for extracting the spy, and smaller amounts for safely extracting other formations, while giving the opponent larger values for destroying enemy formations. Possibly:-
For the side rescuing the spy:
    • 10 points for extracting the spy
    • 1 point for every other formation that is safely extracted.
    • 1 point for each opposing formation that is completely destroyed.
    For the opposing player
    • 2 points for each formation under 250 and 3 points for larger formations that are completely destroyed.
  • The game ends one turn after the spy is extracted or destroyed.
(Note these are guesses at the values, and are mere suggestions to illustrate possible enhancements)

This way, getting the spy out is only part of the game.

That scenario is very similar to one in AT1/SM1 ... we love that random scenario system, that is pretty much all we'd use ... Image

Interesting, and yes the points mods suggested by Ginger might be worth considering too!

Some nice thoughts there Ginger, and we may try that the next time we're back this way. Currently, I want to try the other scenarios and battles from the Battles Book first. Next week should be "Refight 3: The Hellblade Mountains". We're trying to give a more detailed set up and 'Air Recon photo' in the AAR so that others who want to try this can do so easily. I'd love to hear how they went.
The scenario itself is tricky. Larger forces favour the attacker, smaller points values will leave more 'holes' for the spy to escape through. Tyranids may not be an ideal army for this scenario, being largely CC. A more mixed army so that you didn't know if you were attacker or defender/spy beforehand would have been better but I couldn't see the Tyranids as a spy ;D . As is, the Tyranid player, if he'd remembered his Lictors, could have blocked the gap. Monday morning Quarterback ::) All in all, it was a fun game and we had a great time.

Ohhhh I could. Like the movie Startship Troopers:
"What's this look like, Rico?"
"There was a bug in his brain, sir!"

;D
