NetEA Dark Eldar against ORKS 3K.

Ok so I brought my Dark Eldar to PewPewCon in Skövde. It was my first game after moving (7 months) so I was feeling rusty. I made some real brainfarts.

The first mistake wasn't actually a game mistake, but rather that I forgot to take any overview pictures of the board, which might make it a bit harder to follow this report.

I brought the following list. I don't know if it's really any good, but I wanted a bit of everything and it's what I liked to paint.

Anyways on to turn 1:

I kept scourges, incubi with Archon (SC) and wyches in reserves. With two airplane formations it meant only six formations on board at start. I choose my left most objective as the Webway Gate and decided on trying to force a break through on that flank. I deployed the VoP and warriors in raiders to right to act as a delaying force.

My opponent garrisoned his Soopa-Gun formations to the middle of the board on overmatch.

I decided to try to open up the left a bit and sacrificed my Krasnarak. It could reach one big gun in base to base running around the buildings. (The small piece in the open was my Webway Gate objective). The orks used their overwatch to shoot the poor beast who took one or two points of damage). The one gun that could be reached in CC was mauled pretty badly but the rest of the grotz actually finished the DC 4 monster.

Strategy then went to the orks who started probing a bit and sent a small blitz (no odd boy) ahead on the ork left flank. Laying a blast marker (BM) on my warriors in raiders (out of picture). I then wanting to stall a bit sent my fighters after them killing one.

Big gunz hiding in the jungle (top of picture) tried to go on overwatch, but failed and regrouped. The Warlord deciding to keep his reroll.

I decided on a risky move and sent the warriors in to engage the small blitz. The infantry had been deployed out of transport so had to stay on board (DE may shoot or FF from within their raiders or BoP's). On average I'd receive one hit but I had a 4+ save and went in with +3 (being more than double and less BM's). It paid of as I saved the one hit I received.

I then consolidated (Eldar my make a full move when consolidating) back to some houses keeping out of sight of the Soopa-Guns of the central overwatch warband.

My opponent then sneakily took an advance order with the big warband and really only moved the big gunz he now had line of fire to the warriors, but some rather unlucky to hit rolls saw only one raider go down.

I then had brainfart number one. I decided to send my Vessel of Pain ahead and shoot at the central warband (Advance order making a pop up attack) thinking that my TK attacks would automatically hit his AV flakwagon (that it was treated as a AT attack), but of course the attacks just killed a boyz unit.

Mounted warband went ahead into central jungles on my side. They might have layed a BM somewhere. I responded by sending raiders to advance and pop up to kill two transports.

Stompas wanted payback so doubled and managed to down one raider. Airplanes went in to avenge my poor skimmer craft, but they only managed a BM.

The Orks shifted flank and sent in the second mounted warband on my right. The warriors lost a second raider, for a total of 5 BM's.

I then sent Reaver formation one forward to place shield formations further back and to be in a good place to support later assaults. Orks responded with bikes doubling and laying a BM on them. They actually managed a hit but it was saved.

I doubled my warrior BTS formation. Wanting to take out the Soopa Guns I fired on the big guns. I killed more then I had right to including the noobz but not the soopa guns, breaking them. They lacked good options to retreat to so stayed put.

I decided to retain the initiative. My Archon burst out through the webway with his incubi. I only have a post assault/consolidation picture. They went for the stompa mob and 5 incubi including the Archon got into base contact. The way the stompas were placed stopped the dreads from actually getting into base to base contact and the stompas only had big-guns. I lost one unit but with support of the reavers and some unlucky saves from my opponent saw him loose big and get hacked down. I then retreated to the houses close by.

After that then the orks sent a blitz down my far left flank, but only zaap-gunned a shadow field, of which I failed to take a picture.

For my final activation I was going to assault the mounted warband that had gone into the central jungle (with support from forward reavers). Alas the the dreaded double one came up (used my SC reroll). I opted to move for my hold action and went close to the VoP behind central jungle.

Another blitz went ahead and doubled, the zaap-gun missed so they only placed a BM on my forward reavers.

Rallying saw the orks shed most BM's, the big gunz failed to rally though and stayed put and the bikes kept the one they got after seeing the stompas die. I rallied everyone except for the raider warriors who failed keeping all 5 BMs.

That concluded turn one. I will have to continue this tomorrow, as it to late now. Sorry

Ok so time for turn 2. First we had teleports. I took a chance and sent in the scorges hopeing to win the strategy roll. They got placed to be able to support first an allsault on the bikes and then later the big middle warband. It was not to be. Orks won intiative and the bikes did this. I think my opponent then retained, but I'm not sure were, I didn't take a photo of the activation in that case. My response was to activate the warriors in VoP's I advanced and put some disrupt Barrage hur on the warband in the jungle. I retained with my reavers without a BM. I then had a real brainfart on my part. I sent in reaver gang 2 in an assault against the mounted warband in the central jungle. I forgot all about friendly support fire, I only counted on my other reavers supporting. So I basically put myself in front of his big warband. I lost one unit in the assault and then got hit with 13 supporting attacks. It seemed lady luck had mercy on me after doing such a stupid misstake. My opponent actually missed all attacks. A few surviving units from the warband retreated back behind the ork lines. I consolidated to a posiotion were his central Soopa Guns couldn't see me. Where they also shielded my unactivated formation to the back. Again sorry Andreas can't remember what you did next. I chose advance order and pop uped with the raiders shoot at the small blitz with zaap-gun, breaking them. They fled behind a hill. My opponent proceeded to take an advance action with his central Soopa-gun warband. He moved his soopa guns so that they got line of fire to my activated reavers. He hit all of them wiping out the formation, He was also able to put one Blast template on one of my Barges of pleasure. He missed though. Sorry no photo I answered with making an assault with my incubi at the broken Big-Guns formation. The outcome was rather predictable, but I did loose a incubi unit. I then consolidated behind the hill close to the buildings. Staying inside my raiders. I retained on a 3+ with my whyches who came out of the portal assaulting the blitz, I had to take care of the his big blitz on my far left flank, before they could move and fire at my loaded up incubi. I reached base contact and killed all of the formation after resolution. My opponent had some rather bad to hit rolls so all my units made it alive. I consolidated behind the hill where my incubi were. I don't quite know what happen after this as I forgot to take pictures for quite some time. I think my opponent used his small big gun formation in the jungle on my right to break my warriors with raiders. I was then starting to feel rather unsure about my right flank. Things were going well in the left and I wanted to be able to break the middle warband before his mounted warband on my right could come and reinforce. So I sent my VoP to the right fireing on the warband and to work as a roadblock. It did work the Warband assaulted my poor VoP I was hoping I'd survive with cover and all (due to shadowfields). It was not enough however and my craft was hacked down. He consolidated into the buildings close by. That concluded turn 2. My opponent rallied his small blitz formation behind the hill. I don't quite know what I rallied, but I do know that my warriors in raiders stayed broken. My airplanes did something as well. I think they shot at broken formations or placed BM somewhere.

Sorry from here on I only took a few scattered photos. Orks won the strategy roll for turn 3 as well. Putting the rallied small blitz in between my incubi and his big central warband. TRying to shield them from assault. I think they took a shield down from one VoP. I asnwered with moving my VoP warriors into the thick of his warband shooting with all they had. Didn't cause that many casualties but with disrupt on the barrage I laid a total of 7 BM's on him. I then retained with the incubi and assaulted the central warband by flying around the small blitz. It was risky I had no BM and inspiring, but could only get 2 incubi into B2B contact (they have FF 6+) and doing so let one of his noobz to be able to get into b2b. It worked out in my favor in the end tough. I got four hits on me but saved three so only lost one unit. I killed quite a lot of the warband with the 12 support shoots from the warriors and the 2 VoP and broke them, hacking down a few moer. They retreated into the central jungle on my side. The game was sort of decided by now but my opponent valiently deciced to see the game through. I tried to go for defend the flag. The ravagers and whyches fromed two nice congalines to take all my three objectives. The mounted warband on my right flank doubled and shoot my still broken warriors for some hack down kills and by that maganged to denied me DTF. The small big gun formation also headed back home and denied me blitz (my reavers had moved there to try and claim the objective. The game went to a fourth turn and finally Dark Eldar won the initiative! I started with assaulting the big guns with my incubi wiping them out with the support of the close by reavers. I retained with said reavers who engaged the close by warband (that was seen in the jungle in the previous photo). I won and with them being still broken meant they all fled the field. With this I had secured both the Blitz objective and T&H, the two warbands still at large were on my half of the field so couldn't intervene. The Orkses had taken my right most T&H objective with the mounted warband, but my raiders could contest the blitz so my opponent couldn't get any objectives we therefore called the game 2:0 in my favor. Thanks for reading. Dark Eldar was a very fun army to play and I hope to bring them out agin to an event.

Thanks for a great battlereport Borka (and a fun game). Not much to fill in for me. I more or less lost the game on turn one. I found myself without any good plan from start. Tried to box in the Dark Eldar (yeah, right boxing in eldar, does not sound that smart afterwards does it). So most of the game I was mostly reacting on what you did. Give a loot of credit to the resilient of the ork taking such a beating and yet have unit lefts to put a fight to the end My army list was. I'm glad you enjoyed it guys! I'm affraid I don't know where the houses are from. I didn't organize the event. I think the guy who did (and who supplied all the terrain) is a member here on Taccoms, but I don't know his user name so can't ask. I liked them as well, I think they would be perfect terrain for my Tau army.

I'm the guy who organized the tournament. Excellent report, Borka! The event went splendidly despite the small number of participants and I'd like to thank Borka and the others who showed up. We did manage to introduce a couple of new players to NetEA as well. The cream coloured buildings are from Old Crow Models and I think that they are old Battletech designs originally. Unfortunately Old Crow's web shop isn't available, and I'm not sure when or if it ever will be again, but IIRC they may be able to cast some on demand if you e-mail them.
