Cool.

I'm curious about the Forge Knight engagement. I didn't see you mention any robots being involved until the combat resolution but your rule gives them fearless which should prevent casualties.

Were you playing with the Crusaders at 150 or 200? Especially given your results, I think 150 is a bit more appropriate for them. Better than sentinels but die just as easily which means they need support. If they could run without support a higher cost would be warranted.

Thanks; I heven't played that much longer myself. My return to 6mm gaming and Epic can in fact be dated very precisely, to September 25., 2010.

Indeed it was. It definitely felt like defense of a high-tech site.

There were no robots in the Forge Knight engagement? The Forge Knights aren't Robots, just piloted heavy-duty construction mechanicals with ad-hoc weaponry.

My mistake with the Forge Knights was to let the IG dictate the engagement; They are not very impressive in FF range.

They were at 200 points in this list. In this list, they are faster than Sentinels, Fearless, and packs a respectable Shooting and CC punch too. 200 may be a tad overpriced, but in the list (which has very few other cheap, fast formations), they seem worth it.

The theme here is a bit the opposite of (say) Eldar specialization; Everything is a little bit useful for mutiple purposes, instead of being great at a single thing.

I must have been confused when you mentioned that the combat resolution wiped out the surviving robots.

I think you might be getting the most utility from the speed they have than much else based on your reports. Fearless isn't really doing a lot to help them with their armor save and formation numbers and their shooting really isn't all that great until they are well within retaliation range which seems to be difficult with their need to stay in the AA bubble or get shredded like happened in you game.

If its a matter of their speed making them more attractive, perhaps dropping them to 175 might be enough to add the premium for their speed.

A very useful battlereport.

I was thinking the same army build with Steel Legion. Massive hordes of autocannon and FF. Garrison up in the middle and advance slow and purposefully.
Until I read this report through, I wasn't sure if infantry horde would work, and now here we are: it not just works, but rocks! >:D

The list isnt really that good, but it is very fun and iconic. You will find eldars, marines and everything fast challenging. Would love to try it against a foot ork horde. Would be epic.
