Ok here comes a report from a game tuesday last week. I used chromas report log pdf, very useful now when it's been more than a week. It was a 3000pts game and this was my list Quote: 2995 POINTS Squats (Squat list 1.0) ================================================== WARRIOR BROTHERHOOD [525] Hearthguard unit, 9 Warrior units, Warlord Unit, Grand Warlord Character, 4 Thunderer units, Rhinos BERZERKER BROTHERHOOD [275] Hearthguard unit, 5 Transport Termite, 9 Berserkers BIKERS GUILD [270] Guild Master unit, 4 Guild Bike, 3 Guild Trike THUDD GUN [225] 6 Thudd gun units THUNDERFIRE [100] 2 Thunderfire IRON EAGLE [300] 4 Iron Eagle Gyrocopters, Iron Hawk IRON EAGLE [300] 4 Iron Eagle Gyrocopters, Iron Hawk COLOSSUS [450] LAND TRAIN [550] Land train Engine, 2 Mortar Battle Car, Dragon Battle Car, 2 Berzerker Battle Car, Living Ancestor Character ================================================== I don't have my opponents exact list, but he had the following formations Quote: 3x retinues, one with two defilers. 2x times predator formations 1 Land Raider formation 1 Feral Titan 1 Terminator formation (6 termies + 2 obliterators) TURN 1 Apparently I didn´t take any photos of deployment but on the next photo you can at least see how I deployed. This is att the time of teleports. My opponent is putting down his terminators behind my collosus. ![]() Initiative went to the chaos forces. First action is a double by the Feral titan which heads forward and fires on the collosus taking down one or two shields and putting a BM on the collosus. A successful retain sees the terminators assaulting into the collosus all 6 terminators reach base contact and the obliterators stay behind to FF. My OW thunderfires fires on the termies. They save the one hit and only recieves 1 BM. ![]() The above was taken afterwards, my collosus took 3 unsaved hits of which one were a critical making it immobilized. I played the collosus with CC 4+, 3+ seemed silly to both me and my opponent. The Collosus hit four times but all were saved, being fearless and immobilized it stayed put. I was quite happy having survived 7 MW 3+ attacks. Next it was my turn and I sustained with the train on the retinue in the FW buildings. The mortars have ignore cover and two of them gives 4 BP and between them and the Doomsday cannon they took out 5 units from the retinue. ![]() After that I tried to retain and double with my warrior brotherhood. I used my Living ancestors ability to ignore the -1 to ini when retaining ones per turn. To no avail, I failed the test even though I used my reroll. Rather frustrating. The warriors started footslogging forwards (10 cm move). For all you naysayers, 10 cm is really fast just look ![]() ![]() The Land raider double up and fire on the thunderfires killing one and braking the formation. ![]() Iron Eagles behind the hill advance and fire on the Feral titan taking down the shields and inflicting 1 DC, for two BM. After this Predator formation 1 doubles and fires on my second Eagle formation getting two hits but I save both. 1BM. ![]() Next activation was my thudd guns sustaining on the retinue in the central forrest. Inflicting two casualties. ![]() Said retinues tried an advance order but failed and regrouped instead. After which my bikes doubled and fires on the terminator formation. No hits though. ![]() Predators 2 made a march move ![]() Eagles 2 then sustained on the feral titian. Even though one was suppressed they managed to inflict 7 hits bringing the titan down, giving the squatters first formation kill and some revenge for the in all likelyhood doomed collosus. ![]() The turn was then concluded with the mechanized retinue doubling and firing on something (probably the warrior brotherhood). Might Have been a march order, I forgot to write this one up. I think the guys in the FW buildings made a regroup and fired on the warriors killing 1 rhino. ![]() All chaos stuff rallied and all squat formations except for the thunderfires. TURN 2 Berserker tunnelers surface, 35 cm towards my table edge from the chaos blitz. Initiative goes to the chaos forces again. And he starts with the terminators assaulting the now rallied collosus. The outcome was rather predictable and the terminators easily took down the last two DC. The collosus retaliated a bit though inflicting four hits which resulted, after some unlucky save on my opponents account, in one dead terminator and two obliterator units. ![]() He the retained and used his Retinue in the central forrest to fire at my berserkers. This was my big brainfart of the game we were in a bit of a hurry so when I deployed the berserker I sort of just threw them down and forgot to put the infantry next to the vehicles, so I got no cover. The Chaos troops inflicted 5 hits on the infantry of which 1 was saved giving the formation 5 BM. ![]() I then sustained with one of my eagle formations on the predators thad had moved up close to were the titan fell. 6 hits were scored which resulted in 2 dead tanks and a broken formation. I followed this up with a retain from my other eagles sustaining on the land raiders some really subpar rolling saw me getting only 3 hits which were all saved. ![]() the mechanized retinue then doubled over to the FW buildings to reinforce the battered garrison retinue. Their fire killed one warrior unit. ![]() I then activated my thudd guns and sustained on the retinue in the FW houses and managed to take out an obliterator who happened to be closest to the guns. Land raiders then assaulted my eagles by the hill. He killed two eagles, but some unlucky saves saw the land raiders lose two tanks (two hits) and the remaining ones were hacked down. ![]() Next I tried to march with my berserkers to get into the houses by the chaos blitz. They failed however and instead choose to regroup. I shed 4 BM so had 1 left. This was the only instance during the hole game were I was able to benefit from the stubborn rule. ![]() The beat up retinue in the FW buildings then advanced and shot at the brotherhood for no hits (i think). I then activated my train. sustaining again only the Doomsday cannon and the battlecannons were in range. I clipped both retinues with the template and managed to take out one rhino and 1 CSM from the mech guys and also 1 CSM unit from the garrison Leaving them on 6 BM (1 BM from braking I think, might have broken them). ![]() We had to stop at this point though due my opponent being in a hurry. I will share my thoughts on the list in the thurgrim 1.0 thread. |

Okay, that batrep was awesome for the "aaaah flee" caption by itself, not to mention the wheely popping trike. Thanks for the info and looking forward to hearing your thoughts. |

It does seem from reading this report that the Iron Eagles were quite dominant in that game. Admittedly there was not a lot of LOS blocking terrain, from the pictures, though so perhaps it's not surprising. Do you feel that they would have done as well with a 45 cm range Gyrocopter battlecannon rather than the quite unrealistic full range battle cannon or did it not make much of a difference? It also looks like the squat warriors didn't really achieve much of anything. How'd you feel about their performance? |

Yeah the Gyrocopters were sort of my MVP formations. The battlecannon range did not come into play, because I allways were in range or moved up to 45 cm to be able to shoot with the autocannons as well. I think most player will want to do that. If you choose to fire with only the battlecannons then it's only 4 attacks and significantly less effective, for that reason I don't think the 75 cm range is a big problem. Perhaps 45 cm for thematic reasons could be good. I wouldn't be opposed to 45 cm range, they were quite powerful. A slight nerf could be in order. This was actually my first game with the list, I'd like to try the Eagles agian at 300pts. I sort felt however (but based just on this one game) that they might need a pts increase. Perhaps 325 or even 350. I can't really comment on the warriors since I only got to activate them ones and actually failed. I was going to propel them forward late second turn, to try to engage in the third turn after another Ignore cover barrage from the train. I would likely have been able to intermingle his formations, and have +1 for outnumber, probably +1 for less BM and also the +1 for inspring. I would really have liked to get to try that. I think I'll bring two formations next time to get one garrison. cheers |

It'd be interesting to've seen a third turn and how the Squats cope with the objectives. Thanks for sharing. |

I can't help but feel that the success of the Gyrocopters in that game though was mainly down to the lack of LOS blocking terrain. In our games we've not found them to be too powerful because they're mostly doubling and/or shooting at targets in cover. |

My opponent could also perhaps have been à bit more cautious about the 45 cm range. I could, in my four activations, sustain 3 times. |

I've sent an email were I linked him to this batrep. I also asked him if he had any thoughts on the list afterwards, I haven't got an answer yet. He had to leave in a hurry so we didn't get a chans to talk so much after the game. So I don't really know. During the game we both agreed that the 3+ CC on the collosus was a bit excessive. He also said when we talked about my list that the he thought the train sounded quite cheap compaird to many titans (like we've discussed today in the Thurgrimm thread). |
