A close game despite Matt not deploying his full army again. He shorted himself a Rough Rider unit which I don't think he actually has models for, but I digress... (did you click twice when making the list or something?) Despite being 150 points down and wanting to call it in the fourth I made him go another turn thus allowing the IG to pull off a 912.5 to 825 VP win over the SM. Truly, a more decisive victory has never been recorded... ![]() I tried out a new list for this one, pretty much everything that had a point drop was in there. Start of Game Start of Game The Whirlwinds take out three Guardsmen (also, Russ fall down go boom). A giant blury hand flies over the battlefield as the Chaplain doubles up and lays a BM on the Guardsmen. The Manticores sustain (with reroll) on the SC, get a lot of hits but only the Razorback and a Marine go down. The Vindicators double loose a tank to difficult terrain and completely miss all their shots on the Guardsmen. The Vultures fail to activate and regroup. The SC marshals. The Sentinels double and lay a BM on the Chaplain. The Tacticals double and take out two Rough Riders. The Rough Riders fail to activate and regroup. The Destructors double and take out a Sentinel. The Sentinels double. The Scouts advance and break the Sentinels. The HQ doubles and takes out two Scouts. The Scouts marshal. The Guardsmen fail to activate and regroup (looks like they should have had to move here with one stand being out of coherency). The Land Speeders double and get a hit on the broken Sentinels, wiping them out. The Leman Russ attempt to double, fail and take out a Scout and Rhino. The Land Raiders double and take out a Sentinel. The Mech Coy double and take out a Scout (no cover saves for them). The Annihilators advance and take out a Chimera. |

Turn 2 Turn 2 The Land Speeders double and take out a Vulture. The Land Raiders double and take out a Hydra and 3 Chimera. The Manticores hit the Chaplain. The Annihilators double and take out 2 Chimera in the HQ. The Guardsmen in advance and break the Scouts. The Marines advance and take out a Chimera. The Sentinels double and ZoC the Tacticals. The Whirlwinds hit the HQ, taking out three Guardsmen, a Chimera and the Hydra. The Leman Russ double, score lots of hits and two Land Raiders go down. The Vindicators advance and take out the two Snipers and a Guardsmen. The Destructors engage them. First round nothing happened, in the second one Predator and three Guardsmen go down. The Guardsmen break. The Vultures take out two Rhinos. The Scouts engage the Mech coy. A Rhino makes two saves and the Marines get support, taking two Guardsmen and a Chimera out. Round two. Dead Rhino. The HQ marshals. The Chaplains breaks the Vultures. The Rough Riders engage the Land Raiders. The Land Raiders can't save to save their lives. The Tacticals engage the Sentinels. The wipe them out. The Mech Coy marshals and lays a BM on the Annihilators. |

Turn 3 Turn 3 The Destructors advance and lay a BM on the Russes. The Tacticals engage. The Russes make all their saves and the Tacticals loose. The Mech coy advances on the SC. The HQ retains. One Marine and three Guardsmen go down. The HQ wins after the second round and the SC falls back. The Speeders double on the Russes laying a BM (should have did this instead of the Destructors to begin with). The Whirlwinds hit the Chaplain and take out the last Rhino. The Whirlwinds sustain on the Russes but still nothing goes down. The Rough Riders march. The Chaplain doubles and lays another BM on the Russes. The Vindicators retain and engage. Two go down for three Russes. The Russes finally break. and the Guardsmen deny me T&H... The Annihilators hit the Russes twice on the advance, they save. The Rhino makes it difficult for them to rally. |

The Whirlwinds sustain on the HQ and fail to kill anything. The Rough Riders engage the Tacticals. Two for two. The Commissar pulls it off and the Tacticals break. The SC marshals. The Vultures fail to activate. The Land Speeders advance and take out a Guardsmen. The Chaplain double and tries to break the Manticores for Blitz but fails to hit, the Manticores return fire and take one out. The Rhino marshals. |

All twelve of them fit in a 8" cube so they're really easy to transport. The poor Orks would probably like to move back into them by now though. |

I think Matt needs to buy new dice. Also, why did he not activate his LR Co even to move + marshall, before your vindis piled in? I kept reading and thinking "he's going to get assaulted, move away, fire, anything!". |

We've been actually using the same pool of (my) dice for most of our playtests now. I know with his first chance to activate he was gunning for my BTS. I think the Rough Riders took priority after that to make sure something was on my board edge. |

ah, there's that theory up in smoke then. I see what you mean about the mech co. assault, that makes sense. It was just the activations after that, like using his Manticores, that I didn't understand. |

Smashing report guys, apart from one picky note ( turn #4 "The Annihilators attempt to advance, fail and sustain" - you may only shoot, not sustain if you fail to activate). Evidently a test of the new style "groundpounder marines". So was this a purely "ground" battle by consent? Also, what are your views of the SM list containing every down-graded formation; is it generally balanced, under or over powered? |

I think that was a typo on Dave's part, as I would've noticed if he had sustained off a failed activation. Also to Dave's comment above, I had another sniper in that inf. coy still, so I think I was legally able to regroup. Overall I think the SM list is pretty balanced. I wouldn't say it was a totally ground battle by consent - as the non-SM player (mostly) I have to guess whether he's taking aircraft or not, and I guessed correctly. It's either tons o' hunters or multiple fms of t-bolts. As I only took 2 hydras, it was lucky for me that he went with a lot of hunters. We have tested it when I have taken multiple aircraft fms against his hunters, with predicable results for my poor, innocent, helpless, undeserving aircraft ![]() We are kind of doubtful that destructors need 3+ FF, but it didn't matter in this one (either they missed or I saved all the hits they inflicted). In calculating VP, the new tactical price is a bit cumbersome, but Dave can say better whether they are balanced or not. As for the russ hangin' out waiting to be assaulted - that was the product of having to make some tough choices, yes. I think all dice hate me upon reflection. so many 1's... |

That one infantry stand needed to be within of 5cm of something however, that's why they shouldn't have regrouped. We'll probably be able to get in a half dozen more of these batreps but with the way they're going now I think the destructors don't need both the FF bump and the decrease. I'd favor the decrease over the FF bump. Annihilators and Tacticals I don't think need to be touched at all. Vindicators I'm still waffling over, 250 seemed fine, 225 doesn't buy you much more but whatever. |

Have the various decreases made things too good, or have the various decreases just not really changed anything in your estimation? |
