Another playtest with the Raven Guard from last Wednesday against Chris's Black Legion. We used LI's playtest stats, so sorry Steve that this will be of limited use to you. Chris hadn't realized a new list was out and I didn't think to check what he was using. Chris if you have your list can you post it? Turn 1 Strategy: Raven Guard Start of Game Start of Game The orbital bombardment manages to hit something but destroys only a single Land Raider. The Tacticals hit dirtside, destroy three Predators and lay a BM on the bikes. The Landing of the three Land Speeder formations and two Raven Guard Assault. |

The Raven Guard Assault Marines engage the Predators. They wipe the Predators out at the cost of a stand and a Storm Eagle. The Hell Blades lay a BM on some Speeders. The Bike summon and engage the Tacticals. Some fancy marine saving sees the Bike broken and the Tacticals down only one stand. |

The Tacticals sustain on the other bikes, destroying one. The other Raven Guard Assault engage the Forlon Hope. They wipe them out without a loss. The other group of Bikes summon and engage the Tacticals. Other stand is lost but the Marines stand firm yet again. |

The Land Speeders advance on the Land Raiders, ZoCing them. The Land Raiders advance on the Land Speeders, destroying two. The Tornadoes and Typhoons advance on the broken bikes. Another group of Land Speeders advance on the Land Raiders, destroying another. The Retinue doubles and lays a BM on the Land Speeders. |

Turn 2 Strategy: Raven Guard Turn 2 Turn 2 The Terminators arrive with 1 BM. The Land Speeders advance on the Retinue and accidently get within charge range of a Rhino. The Tacticals retain and engage the Retinue, the Land Speeders are drawn in by the Rhino. |

The Speders are destroyed and the SC broken, the Retinue looses 2 Rhinos and Chaos Marines. The Bikes summon and double to the Blitz. The Retinue retains and marshalls, fireing on the Terminators and laying a BM. The Land Speeders sustain and break the bikes again. The Raven Guard Assault doubles into a support possition for an assault on the Bikes. |

The Land Raiders marshall and fire on them, laying a BM. The Land Speeders advance on the Retinue, destroying two stands in a cross fire. The Hell Blades straffe the Land Speeders, taking two out. The Terminators engage the retinue. And are completely wiped out by 5 hits... |

The Hell Blades straffe the Land Speeders, destroy 3 and break them. The Raven Guard assault advance and break the Retinue with a Storm Eagle shot. End Phase Everyone except the Raven Guard SC (failed even with re-roll) rally. |

Chris had some hard luck breaking my drop podding Tacticals in the first turn. They survived two bike assaults unbroken and with little losses. On the other hand I think empty Terminator suits were teleported down to engage the retinue. ![]() I dropped where I did in order to restrict the amount of firepower that could be leveled against me. Only two Land Speeder formationss were actually intermingled after the planetfalling was all done. Chris said he had trouble trying to figure out what to do with the massive mass of formations right in the center of the board and most of his firepower out of advancing range. It was over 2-1 Raven Guard in the third with Blitz and Take and Hold vs. Take and Hold. |

Black Legion (older army list) Retinue (Nurgle)w/ cult troops, daemonic pact, rhinos - 510pts. (Supreme Commander) 8 x Landraiders - 600pts. (bts) 8 x Predators - 400pts. Forlorn Hope (Tzeentch)w/ daemonic pact, rhinos - 170pts. Chaos Bikes (Tzeentch)w/ daemonic pact - 325pts. Chaos Bikes (Tzeentch)w/ daemonic pact - 325pts. Chaos Swiftdeath fighters (3) - 200pts. Chaos Swiftdeath fighters (3) - 200pts. 14 x Lesser Daemons - 280pts. Total - 3,010pts. 8 activations. Having most of Dave's army land in my lap and kill almost 600pts. at the start of the game was rough. Dave was able to land his force in a tight clump (Barrage would have been nice here) with support fire aplenty to ward off any engagements. As luck would have it, a forest was between the landing force and my Landraiders which protected them from immediate retaliation. Sadly, my Bike formations couldn't CC their way past a properly motivated Girl Scout troop. Between losing the Predators before they could do anything and the terrain blocking my Landraiders, I was unable to bring alot of firepower to bear. I don't even know why I used any Predators or Landraiders seeing as they're such over-priced, non-options. ![]() Final thoughts - if you kill just one Storm Eagle, the whole  assault formation has to foot slog it - they deliver the payload, but you can't count on them after that. Maybe reduce their cost? Also, mass drops of Landspeeders with macroweapons and zoc seems a bit much, but that's just my take on it.
