3k Space Marine vs Black Legion

Post subject:  3k Space Marine vs Black Legion
With football done for the year I finally got a chance to play The Coach (Matt) again. He tried out a foot slogging Black Legion list while I took a tank heavy Space Marine list. He called it at the end of the third despite it being 1-0 Marines.

I don't have his Army List in front of me but here's what we had from memory.

With a foot slogging force, Coach garrisons everything he can.


The Whirlwinds and Tacticals hit the Warlords retinue in the open.


The Chaos Bikes March across the table to draw some fire from the Warlord. The Predator Destructors oblidge them.


The Raptors make ready for turn 2.


A Feral doubles and takes out a Marine stand.

The Supreme Commander and Devastators hit the Forlorn Hope.


The Bike prepare for turn 2.


The second Feral doubles on the Bikes, while the Predator Annihilators squeeze off a couple of shots at it.


The second Retinue marches towards Coach's left flank.


The Land Speeders ZoC the Ferals and lay another BM on the second.

The Chosen teleport in right behind the Supreme Commander.


My own Terminators prepare to take on the Feral.


They take a loss, but the Feral goes down hard.


Meanwhile, my Supreme Commander high tails is away from the chosen and opens up on the Retinue in the open.


A failed activation (and re-roll!) costs Coach big as he must move the Feral out of the Land Speeders ZoC.

The Devastators double as well hit the Retinue again.


The Raptors fail their engage as well, thanks to the Tacticals doubling back and laying a BM on them.


The Annihilators advance again and manage to score a hit on the Decimator.


The Land Speeders double and manage to break it.


The Chaos Bikes, thinking ahead to turn 3, March back to stop the Land Speeders from grabbing the Blitz.

Start of Turn 3


Even after two turns of Whirlwind barrage the Retinue in the open is fairing fine.


The Chaos Bike assault goes horrible wrong and the Land Speeders hold in there with another loss.


The Bikes manage to break the remaining Feral with the help of the Vindicators.



The Terminators, with support from the Tacticals and both Predators, manage to reduce the BTS to 1 Bezerker stand before breaking.

Thanks for the report.  I love reading a battle report with pictures, especially when the units are painted and the table is game-store quality!

NP Kealios, thanks for lookings.

Hena, yes I usually play them with Walker but it has yet to come up in any of my games with them. I have felt I've gotten my points out of them in a couple of games (I like to support Bikes with them) but not being able to drop 12 dice like Predators definitely hurts them.

All and all, they're cool models so I use them.

I've yet to have them on any of those terrain types. We use a lot of scrub and rubble we deem impassible to vehicles (like the rubble hills from this BatRep). I'll try them on a forest one of these days and see what kind of options it opens up.

The Ferals are made using some old toy robots Coach had as a kid. He cut off their hands and put the chaos weapon muzzles on them. Other than that though they are stock. He's got a bunch of conversions in his army. It looks very cool on the table.
