To celebrate the release of the new EPIC UK Space Marine army book in April, EPIC UK decided to produce a battle report.

Please follow the below link to EPIC UK's website where you will be able to read about this battle and see how the new Space Marine army deals with the Chaos forces.

Thank you

EPIC UK decided to produce a battle report.
Or, you and Kevin decided to produce a Battle Report.  :))

You make it sound like EPIC UK is a HUGE ORGANISATION OF DOOOM!

Had a skim, it looks great, I'll have a proper read later.

No it was an EPIC UK marketing / PR / excuse to play extra games decision.  :)

I hope we will have a battle report for all the books that come out (that's why we now have a battle report page).

Thanks

Interesting battle report, nice photos and diagrams.

I think showcasing the Epic UK Marine flexibility by including a Strike Cruiser and multiple formations that can then Drop Pod/Garrison/Thunderhawk/Rhino depending on game would have been good- as I think the Strike Cruiser/Planetfall change is the biggest change in the Epic UK list.

Are BA/DA/BT battle reports planned?

Very cool report. I haven't had a chance to play Chaos vs. Marine (on either side) yet, and I'm trying to soak up every battle report with these two armies that I can.

I also finally checked out the Epic UK SM book. Three things:

1) Dark Angles.

2) Do all of the army lists gain all the same special abilities as the vanilla marines? Only ATSKNF is noted in the header for each list. I assume the chapter-specific lists (with the exception of White Scars, where it is very clear) must use the transport rule (otherwise "Six Tactical units plus transports" means nothing), but what about the Superior Tactics?

3) Dark Angles. :vD

Jeridian,

It was difficult decision; do you show off the Strike Crusier or units that had changed (Vindicators / Land Raiders / attack bikes / Warhounds etc). Unfortunaletly you cannot show all of it off.

I know you've mentioned the Strike Crusier as being the biggest change in the EPIC UK list before (I read the Flame On boards abit) but I don't see it as being the biggest change. The biggest change for me has been a) the new army lists and b) the increase in points for Warhounds (as most Space marine players at tournaments take them ... there too good not to!).

As for battle reports for the BT /BA and DA, I doubt it. It took long enough to do this one  :) ... If others want to do battle reports for the other varient Space Marine armies then please do. I think EPIC UK will try to do a battle report for each book released (however you never know, we may go back and look at doing the BT / BA and DA at a later date).

Dangerasaurus,

Yes all space marine armies have the Transport and Superior Tactics.

Also yes we know we have a few angels instead of angles (stupid spell check ... doesn't pick it up as it's a word). However this has been the main complaint of the new book, which for me is great as it must mean most people think the rules are okay. Infact I'm quite tempted to stick in more spelling mistakes in future books  :)

Thanks for looking at the battle report and a special thank you to Chroma. I used his battle report sheets and they are fantastic ... strongly recommend using them.

Thanks

The drop pod/rhino swap has been in force at UK tournaments since the end of 2007 -when the issue first came up at Britcon and that open war

That's a pity as it's a lovely looking report (still haven't had time to read it, sorry...).

Thats a great looking report and a good read.

I hope there will be more done even if it's not to showcase new books.

It is a really good report and cracking read.

As an aside, I presume this was created using Vassal? If so, how easy would it have been to insert more diagrams to indicate particular groups of actions. Also, I guess we will need to settle down to create some more Vassal markers to improve the ability to distinguish different formations (other than the 1-9 nomenclature).

On the Drop Pod / Rhino swap, as others have noted it has been available in UK tournaments for some time now. However I do not recollect many people using it other than myself. The point being that to take advantage of this, the Marine player is forced to avoid taking other formation upgrades that are usually relied upon to improve the resilience and firepower.

The diagrams aren't from vassal. You get individual units just like the table top. The map was created in vassal from what I can tell, then the rest done in paint or something similar.

If the game is played in vassal then its easy to get more screen dumps, going back and trying to create them would be a pain and take ages.

Awesome report. Very detailed and using those nice schematics of the battlefield were perfect to understand the flow of the match.

Hope to read another soon!

Also not hard to run the Vassal replay file.

Yes, but this game was played in real life, with real mini's!

I'd not be keen on replaying a game in vassal just to get some pics!
