Did some games with lotsa Pylons, so I thought I'd revist the "Murder of Monoliths" concept again. The Eldar player actually swore when he saw the Necron army list... ![]() |

Battlefield: 4x6; Biel-Tan chose edge deployment Deployment: Biel-Tan kept the Aspect Warrior Warhost and Guardian Warhost 2 in the Webway. Necrons kept everything in reserve. Biel-Tan garrisoned Rangers on overwatch. Remaining deployment as shown: |

It occurs to me, that a necron list might benefit from having a limit on number of monoliths available compared to other units. Ie they are support formations, other units core or something. Armies like this one just look wrong. |

Someone remind me, how did all this go last time? And I have a rules question. The orb - apparently does a BP4 MW attack on anyone within x - does that mean two barrage templates are placed over it, doing multiple hits on those around them? Or should it be a 4+ MW attack? |

One of the more egregious things about the "old" Murder of Monoliths armies was that Monoliths had "infinite" extra attacks on their FF weapon, up to the number of enemy units within 15cm... now they get *three* attacks, no more, no less, so it's not *quite* as bad... also, I believe Monoliths cost 65 points then as well... *laugh* And I have a rules question. That "4BP" thing was put in before the 3BP "adjustment" on the barrage table, it was supposed to, basically, make the attack AP4+/AT5+, MW. It's just never been changed and will probably be adjusted in the "one year" revision; I highly recommend playing it as a "3BP" attack. |

Ie they are support formations, other units core or something. Armies like this one just look wrong. There is a limit... three per Phalanx... it's just that this list maxes that out at the expense of anything else. Almost all armies can make "extreme" lists if they try... and, I think it would've been cheaper if I'd clusted the Monoliths together... that's what I'm going to trying in the next test. Marines: 20 Scout Formations! Orks: *24* Gunzmobs! Guard: 6 Infantry Companies, 12 Sentinels, and 1 Thunderbolt Squadron... and an upgrade to make BTS! *laugh* Eldar: 6 Guardian Warhosts and 12 Nightspinner Troupes All "look" odd... but are they effective? |

Quote: (Hena @ 02 Dec. 2008, 13:19 ) I think you'd go much better Marines with Yeah, but that's not *twenty* activations! *laugh* I was just trying to show "wrong looking" armies are possible for most lists. ON WITH THE BATTLE! |

As far as this army list, I'd say it's worth dropping a couple activations from the army to take a Warbarque.  17 or 18 should do about as well as 19, and the extra +2 SR makes a big difference when you're teleporting everything into the enemy's face.  With 14, you can count on losing ~3 upon teleporting and if the Eldar go first, you will lose 3 more (with Farsight retain) before any of the Necrons activate.  With SR1 you are almot guaranteed to lose 6 activations out of the gate.  With SR3, at least you have a chance to use some of them first.  In a turn where Eldar won previously, you would actually have a decent chance to win strategy because Necrons would win a tie. Tactically, I would avoid the first-turn port-o-rama because the Eldar can set up for it.  Stall with some token forces until the Eldar shift.  They cannot castle up indefinitely or they run the risk of the Necrons doing a teleport objective-grab win.  Let them stick their noses out a bit first. On a side note, I can't recall how the Necron SC rule is written.  Is it only in effect when the SC is on board?  If so, you can keep the SC off board and virtually guarantee a Turn 1 strategy loss, giving the Necrons the optimal chance to win strategy on turn 2. |

Turn 2 This time, only five Monoliths phase in, making at total of six in play… and no Blast markers are suffered! Monolith Lucky 13 appears in ruins safely. (Monoliths 1 and 2 were kept in reserve) ![]() Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan Swords of Vaul 1 needs to call on the Autarch before they sustain fire on Monolith 6… destroying it. The Engine of Vaul Scorpion advances, pops-up, and catches Phalanx 4 in a crossfire which destroys two Warriors, but doesn’t break the formation. The Eldar prepare to assault the battered Phalanx and intermingled Monolith in the ruins… when their commander suddenly realizes there’s “Monoliths in the rear!†|

The Supreme Commander gives the Strategy Roll bonus regardless of where or not he is on the board. However, just like other units, the re-roll is allocated only to him until he manages to make it on the board. Looking forward to the rest of the batrep. As for kooky lists, ePilgrim brought an entire list of Land Speeders and Bikes for his Space Marines once. I just happened to bring a low activation count Ork army and it did not end well for me. SWARM!!!! |
