First, I agree that Hena had the stronger position at the end of turn 3. Hena's basic plan was sounder than mine. My idea was to concentrate my forces to take the T&H objectives. Hena instead focused on killing Valks and Vultures, with the intention of crippling my army. Hena's plan worked, mine did not. As I said at the time, the Kroot assault was a definite mistake. Hena should've made me assault the Kroot, instead. I've felt the urge to assault with Kroot myself, when I play Tau. It's that there's nothing else for them to do -- my recommendation is to resist the urge. The Kroot are great at denying a big area to the enemy due to their 30 cm charge range. Once they assault someone, they are spent and can be mopped up with ease. In situations like this one, it's better to maintain the threat than to actually commit the Kroot. I felt the following combinations were nasty: 1) Mech. FW+PF supported by a Stingray formation. Double with mech, shoot someone, light target. Then Sustain with Stingrays. Carnage ensues. 2) Kroot picket line in front of Hammerheads. |

Thanks for the report guys. I definately agree on using the Kroot as a shield. I add some hounds to them and then form a picket line across the entire battlefield (in as much cover as possible). This is very useful for slowing down Warhounds, Deathwheels etc and keeping them out of the Tau lines. Sounds like Always Popped Up (proposed alternate Support Craft rule) was more hassle than it's worth... Looking forward to some more reports. |

The "always see everything" is VERY powerful. "Always popped up" is more hassle, but the upside is that people can hide. It might be worth the cost. |

Do you think that always poped up should be combined with a worsening of the deflector shield as Morays and Mantas can hide under a changed rule? |

Thanks for the report. Too bad you were unable to fight it out for another turn, but that´s life. If Mech FW and Stingrays over Morays are a trend than the list is headed in the right direction! |

Good batrep. Thanks, Hena! Can both of you please detail the pro's and con's of the always-popped-up play? Where did it change things and did it change the game outcome? |
