Beardy and myself got in another game of Epic today. Again Orks versus titan legion. This time I wanted to try out the quake lord and Beardy tried using a Landa. AMTL Warlord: 3 quake cannons, carapace landing pad, veteran princep, carapace multi lasers BTS Warlord: 2 Gatling blasters, 2 turbo lasers, legate Warhound: Plasma blast gun, Vulcan mega bolter Warhound: Plasma blast gun, Vulcan mega bolter Demi cohort: 5 Skitarri, 3 chimera Thunderbolts Thunderbolts Orks Gargant: 4 power fields BTS Warband: 2 extra boyz (with grotz), 2 flak wagonz, 4 gun wagonz Warband: 2 extra boyz (with grotz) Warband: Big, 2 battle wagonz Gun mob: 1 extra gun, 1 flak wagon Blitz brigade: big, 2 zapp forts Landa Both blitz were placed centrally in ruined buildings. The two objective in the AMTL half were placed as far apart on the middle line as possible, whilst the two in the Ork half were placed as close together as possible just up a road from the blitz. I clustered all of my forces around my blitz with the quake lord on the blitz, a warhound in the ruins to his right, the skitarri on his left, hugging their Chimeras. To the left of them the second warlord stood out in the open and the last warhound hiding behind some more ruins. Beardy spread out his forces along most of his board edge. With the Gargant and gun mob opposite my forces, the blitz brigade off to my left and the two mekanized warbands to my right. Turn 1 Beardy went first and doubled forwards the fortress mob into my half. In response one of the thunderbolt squadrons went on CAP and the quake Lord opened fire upon the blitz brigade. Breaking it, when a lucky shoe caused a critical on one of the forts causing it to crash into a gun wagon. The broken blitz brigade fled towards the objective opposite them. Hoping that they would rally in time to claim it. The Gargant then doubles forwards, its weapons not quite getting into range. The gun mob then failed to march so only advanced out of the building they were in. Worried the skitarri went into overwatch Then my right most warhound advanced towards them and killed three big guns with its Vulcan mega bolter (PBG was being held back). This broke the mob and fed fowards, ending where their march would have taken them. The landing then came in on a sweeping attack run on the skitarri. On the way in it was bounced by a pair of wary thunderbolts (they stayed at 30cm) and came under fire from the CMLs on the quake lord. 4 shots resulted in 1DC of damage. The return fire blew apart a chimera and 2 stands of skitarri (from 9 shots). The wagon mob then doubled forwards on the forwards warhound and unloaded 20 big shoota shots, stripping a single void. The second warhound then advanced upon the warband firing everything it had, blowing apart a wagon and both flak wagonz. The second thunderbolt formation came sweeping round and targeted wagon mob, destroying a wagon and a stand of nobz Finally the second warlord then advanced upon the warband blasting apart all its vehicles, except one wagon, and a lot of boyz, breaking them, forcing them to flee sidewise, into the building in whch the gun mob was hiding. End phase The blitz brigade and warhound rally, both the gun mob and warband fail to rally. All planes leave by their table edge Turn 2 The first thunderbolt squadron returns to its Cap. The Gargant then doubles towards the forwards warhound and places a BM. The rest gets blurry. I believe that I then sustained fire on the Gargant with the second warlord stripping its shields and doing 2 DC of damage. The landa then came in on a ground attack on the quake lord. CAP and flak did no damage, but the landa did land in dangerous terrain, fail its roll and then crit. We decided to ignore the crit and the Orks piled into the warlord. Overwatch fire from the skitarri did nothing and it was onto combat. The warlord, the other nob stand and 5 boy stands got into base contact, everyone else had to shoot the voids, knocking down two of them. In combat the Ork warlord hit and damaged with his power klaw, and his boyz hit another 6 times, causing a further 3DC of damage! In return the warlord stood on three boyz (I missed 4 times on 2+ and beardy made a save). Thent he support fire from the nearby warhound and skitarri kicked in, killing 3 boyz a nob and a grot. The roll of went from even to +4 for AMTL. Which gave me the win by threeish. The landa was destroyed and the warlord was left with three boy stands to keep him company The skitarri then marshalled and shot ineffectually at the broken warband. The fortress warband then advanced upon the quake lord. And dropped a void. In return the quake lord failed to activate and shot them back anyway, doing some damage. The rest of the AMTL then turned on the fortress warband and broke it. Oh and the blitz brigade failed to activate and made a single move towards the center of the board. End phase. All AMTL rally, Gargant and fortress mob rally. Turn 3 With almost nothing left to lose Beardy engaged one of my warhounds with the Gargant. The gargant hits three times, stripping both shields and the third shot bounces off of the armour. The warhounds return fire does nothing, but the second warlord is in support ranfge and causes 2 Dc of damage to the Gargant, breaking it. Both Thunderbolt squadrons then dive down onto the blitz brigade almost breaking it. The fortress mob then doubles back towards the quake lord and drop a void. And is broek in return by its return volley. With time running out, one of the warhounds doubles towards the central objectives shooting the blitz brigade at the same time, breaking it. The second warhound marches to the blitz claiming it, whilst the second warlord advances after the broken Gargant doing another DC of damage. Finally the skitarri settled back into overwatch. End phase All AMTL rally, warboss mob and the fortress mob also rally. AMTL win 2-0 blitz and take and hold. Thoughts Beardy is less experienced than me, but I do find that a turtle AMTL army is hard to crack. With the bigger titans able to hold their own against assaults, due to the supporting fire, or assist their weaker brethren then destroy any remaining enemies if they win the assault. My 5 ground formations made: 1 failed activation (attempted sustain) 5 advances 4 sustain fire 2 over watch 1 marshal 1 double 1 march 2 of the advances were not towards the enemy deployement zone, rather to get clear shots at the flanking fortress mob With this I was able to hold a decent firing line and then rush and claim the objectives. My castle of void shielded, unsuppressible units were able to break the back of beardies attack on turn 1, finish it off turn 2 and then win turn three. Quake Lord. He didn?t really do that much. Both beardy and myself think that the normal MRL lord is much better. Okay he was able to break a big blitz brigade in a single shot on turn one, but that was the only good thing he did. The assault he held off any warlord could do and the second and third turn blasting of the fortress mob he did the MRL lord could do almost as well. I think that if beardy had taken a massed infantry horde then the quake lord would of been useful, since we were fighting on a 40K city fight board, however in most case a normal MRL lord would be cheaper and just as good. Quake cannons are more of a direct fire weapon, two quake cannons and two gating blaster would b a very good tactical titan. On skitarri I think that they are just a cheap place holder activation as they are. Possible an over costed cheap activation, but a cheap activation never the less. I think that both they and sentinel formations should be doubled in size. |

Greetings ragnarok, I'm interested in your thoughts on a couple of warlord configurations. How well has the 2 gatling 2 turbo laser Warlord worked out for you...it looks to be a solid all purpose main battle titan. I've used the 2 mrl and 2 gatling config and it works well...what are your thoughts on replacing the gatlings with the new laser blaster (triple turbo laser) would seem to be another solid all purpose titan with mrls for anti infantry work and the lasers for anti armor work. I also like the 2 quake and 2 gatling config but was wondering if it might work better by replacing the gatlings with turbo lasers...once again seems a good fit. Interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter and thanks for your battle reports! Regards PlushWombat |

Greetings ragnarok, I'm interested in your thoughts on a couple of warlord configurations. How well has the 2 gatling 2 turbo laser Warlord worked out for you...it looks to be a solid all purpose main battle titan. It is a very solid machine, able to pump out a good number of shots. Its only weakness is that it lacks decent MW or TK attacks. It can be frustrating seeing dozens of shots bouncy off of a Gargant. However it is cheap, so can make its points back hunting down mechanised formations and artillery groups. I've used the 2 mrl and 2 gatling config and it works well...what are your thoughts on replacing the gatlings with the new laser blaster (triple turbo laser) would seem to be another solid all purpose titan with mrls for anti infantry work and the lasers for anti armor work. Replacing the GB with LBs or TLDs would help it against mechanised formations, since the MRL lacks the punch to hit the APCs with easy. however I am a big fan of the GB since it hits everything on 4s. I also like the 2 quake and 2 gatling config but was wondering if it might work better by replacing the gatlings with turbo lasers...once again seems a good fit. Again I think the choice of GB or TLD/LB is a matter of taste. However with the MW status of the quake cannons the fact that you don't hit tanks that well is off set by their lack of armour save. As an example: Last weekend I hit beardies big blitz brigade with 3 MRLs and managed to cover every single wagon and get each fort under a hole. I killed 2 or three wagonz. This saturday I hit it again with 3 quake cannons, missed 1 or two wagonz and broke it. |
