Hi guys,

Me and BlackRabbit33 managed to squeeze a 2000pt game in this week, he used his trusty Blood Angels and I gave his Orks a go.

We had two objectives: a bunker in the centre of the table and an over-turned BattleFortress on a hill near the right flank.

Deployment


Both our armies were quite spread out. The Blood Angels had Vindicators on both flanks with the Whirlwind, Devestator and Assault Detachments in the centre.

The Orks had both Warbands mounted up in their Landas. Both GunWagon Blitz Brigades were on the left flank. All the Stompas and Stormboyz were just left of the centre.

BlackRabbit33 was tempted to use this as a Titan - I thought it would gave been better as a Gargant for the Orks! ?:laugh:

Turn One

The Blood Angels won the initiative, as they were to do for the rest of the battle!!!  :glare:

Both armies manouvered into position. The BA's Vindicators moving round the flanks and the rest of the army heading to the centre.

The Stompas ponderously slogged forwards with the Stormboyz taking up positions in ruins further to the front. One Blitz Brigade set off to intercept the Vindicators on the right and the other one headed to the centre. Both Whirlwind Detachments came under missile fire from the two Landas.

Turn Two

The Blood Angels started off by assaulting the Blitz Brigade in the centre, with no loss to themselves they totally gutted the brigade, wiping it out. In reply the Stormboyz counter-attacked, jumping into the ruins with the marines. One again the marines were victorious but lost a stand.

The Devestators now moved forwards, deploying from their Rhinos. Seeing the threat developing in the centre, the remaining Blitz Brigade redeployed to the rear to cover any further movements. With the GunWagons 'retreating', the Vindicators pushed forwards, hoping to get round the flank and into the rear of the Ork army.

With a roar of rockets, the Landa screamed out of the sky, landing right beside the Vindicators. A whole Ork Warband jumped out of the various doors and hatches, straight into combat with the marine AFVs. Unfortunately the Vindicator's extra plates of armour fended of the blows taking in combat, with only one machine being KO'd. They withdrew and the Warband consolidated into the ruins.



Seeing the 'success' of the air-assault, ?Orks now sent in their remaining Landa, right on top of the left Whirlwind Det. These machines proved to be much weaker than the Vindicators and were ripped apart. The Warband consolidated into the shallow ruins, their position very much out in the open.

With the Blood Angel army surrounded, the remaining Vindicator Det moved back to deal with the Warband behind - putting it under fire.

The Devestator Det in the centre now came under murderous fire from the two Stompa Mobs.

Turn Three

Seeing that both objectives were very much contested, both armies now concentrated very much on taking them.

The Devestators, under intense fire advanced to the bunker.

The remaining Stormboyz jumped into combat with the Assault marines in the centre, losing the combat and retreating. In reply, the Blitz Brigade moved forwards and fired upon them,killing them all.

The Vindicators on both flanks moved to the rear of their army, pumping out immense shells amongst the advancing Ork Warband. Although many Orks we pasted, it was not enough to break them. They and a Landa fired upon the Devestators.

The Warband on the right now advanced from their ruins, putting more fire onto the beliguered Devestators. The centre StompaMob also joining in the massacre. With all their Rhinos and a Dreadnought destroyed, the Devestators withdrew.



The Over-turned BattleFortress was very much in Ork hands. To contest this, the remaining Assault Marines jumped behind the right-most StompaMob. The Stompas turned and fired at them but couldn't kill enough - even the remaining Landa conducted an airstrike which failed to move the stubborn Marines.

I actually thought this game was a draw, but looking back at it, I now see that I actually broke his most expensive unit - the Devestators.

One objective was still contested and althoug I was close to the other one, it was just too far away! ?:laugh:

I'm glad I gave the Orks a go - especially a more unique army composition. It certainly made for a fun and fluid game with Orks dropping from the skies!

The arrows are all done in Photoshop with the vector/paths tool - then given a Soft/Hard light oppacity depending on which colour.
