Turn 1
Initiative: DS

The AMTL initial deployment:

I garassened Genestealers 1 in the far left woods and Assault Swarm 5 in the ruins next to my Blitzkrieg.

And the 'nids:

The Skitarii double into the woods for cover.

The Hiveship and drops its Orbital Bombardment straight on the Cataphracts, destroying three and breaking the formation.  Its Pin-point attack succeeds in destroying one of the Castellans and the Mycetic Spore attacks knock out another one, breaking the formation.

The Swarms make Planetfall:

The Attack Swarm retains with an engage action with Assault Swarms 1 and 3.  One pack of Warhounds is completely destroyed by the rampaging Tyrant and Carnifex, and the rest of the Brood Creatures succeed in taking out the last Castellan and Cataphracts, for a loss of 6 Hormagaunts.

And down go the Titans:

The Reaver advances on Assault Swarm 3 and takes out 2 Hormagaunts and 4 Termagants with Gattling Blaster and Rocket fire.

Genestealer 1 takes a March and falls back to further woods (no idea why I did this, I could have just advanced and gotten away from the edge of the woods...)

The Paladins double and give chase to Genestealer 1.

Assault Swarm 4 marches and prepares to engage the Skitarii next turn.

The remaining Warhound pack advances towards the biovores in Assault Swarm 5.

Assault Swarm 2 engages the Skitarii but looses 7-8, 4 Hormagaunts and 1 Termagant are lost in the Assault and as hackdowns.

The Skitarii hold strong:

Genestealer 2 marches and joins up with the other Genestealers in the cover of the woods.

Assault Swarm 5 moves to the ruins to its left to get into a better firing position for next turn.

End Phase

Attack Swarm spawns 6 Hormagaunts and 1 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 1 does not spawn as there's nothing left in the pool.
Assault Swarm 2 rallies with 5BM.
Assault Swarm 3 spawns 4 Hormagaunts and 4 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 4 spawns 2 Hormagaunts.

(all brood creatures destroyed returned from play)

Turn 2
Initiative: Dave

AMTL Start of Turn 2:

Tyranid Start of Turn 2:

Assault Swarm 4 engages the Skitarii who again prove stalwart in their defense of the forest. 1 Skitarii is lost and 1 Termagant, with another 2 being hack down as they flee back to the ruins.

Their tough, those guard:

Assault Swarm 2 retains with another engage on the Skitarii through the forest. This time the Skitarii falter, 3 are lost to 1 Termagant and all but one Chimera is hacked down in the 10-5 win for the Tyranids.

The relentless swarms prove to be too much:

The Reaver advances on the Attack Swarm and cuts down 2 Carnifex, 1 Zoanthrope, 2 Hormagaunts and a Termagant.

Assault 3 engages the Reaver and knock out 1 DC for a loss of 1 Hormagaunt and 1 Termagant.  The Reaver withdraws as the 'nids win 10-7.

Brave Bugs:

The Reaver withdraws:

Genestealer 2 engages the Warounds and take out 4 DC for 2 of their own, in a close victory, 9-8, the Warhounds withdraw.

Swarm tactics:

The Paladins attempt to sustain on Genestealer 2 but fail, they fire anyway and break the Genestealers.

The Attack Swarm marches towards the Reaver to do battle.

Assault Swarm 1 follows the Attack Swarm.

Not sure what Assault Swarm 5 did this turn, from the pictures I'd say either fired on the Warhounds or nothing.

End Phase

Attack Swarm spawns 1 Carnifex and 1 Hormagaunt.
Assault Swarm 1 spawns 2 Termagant and 1 Zoanthrope.
Assault Swarm 2 spawns 3 Termagants and 1 Hormagaunt.
Assault Swarm 3 spawns to Termagants and 1 Carnifex.
Assault Swarm 4 rallies.

The Reaver removes its BM and repairs a Void Shield.
The Warounds remove 2 BM
The remaining Skitarii Chimera rallies!

Turn 3
Initiative: DS

AMTL Start of Turn 3:

Tyranid Start of Turn 3:

The Reaver finally gets to open up on the bugs, it targets assault swarm 2 and rips through 8 Termagants, 3 Hormagaunts and a Warrior.

Assault Swarm 6 sustains on the lone chimera and breaks it...

The Warhounds Marshall and remove all BMs.

Genestealer 1 engages the Paladins, 2 go down for 3 Genestealers.  The last Paladin is hacked down in an 11-7 Tyranid win.

The remaining AMTL forces before the Genestealer engage:

A costly battle:

At this point we called the game, as I could obtain both They Shall Not Pass and Take And Hold with my remaining activations.

So 2-0 Tyranids:

Tyranids End of Game:

AMTL End of Game:

My thoughts:

I think that Carnifex are murder in this list, dropping them nearly guarantees an assault.  They and perhaps the Mycetic Spores that transport them could use an increase in points.

Considering the number of bugs I can return to the table (all of them in the first turn) I think no spawning when broken is a good rule.

I am still in favor of the just auto rally, not auto rally and remove all BMs.  As well as does not count as having more BM is an assault.

What Dave was nice enough not to point out was that the game was effectively over at the end of Turn 1. I had lost too much to have any hope of winning. The initial bombardment and having so many swarms dropped practically on top of me is almost too good of a capability.

Also, from my viewpoint, spawning seems to need some tweaking. It's really discouraging when Dave re-spawns everything I kill in one turn.

You took a 1250 point hit (Warhounds, Castellan's and Cataphracts from memory) for the 560 points I spent on the drop.

It wasn't pretty.

Well, I think this is only the third or fourth  Phase III batrep I've seen, so they haven't been heavily playtested yet... that's what *you* gents are doing! *laugh*

Things would've been just as bad for the AMTL if Marines had done the same kind of drop... they got lucky with a near perfect Orbital Bombardment!

If I was the AMTL player, I probably wouldn't have spread my forces out so much in deployment, lessening the chance of the drop hitting any targets, but that's just me.

Nice to see the list getting some play, thanks for the batrep!
