This came up 2? boards back and I was just wondering if peoples views had changed regarding their balance. I'm still finding it hard to have more than one buggy per skorcha formation, anyone else using buggy formations?

I was just going to post something about this, T_R_C!

Gotta head out to dinner, so I'll comment later.

I just got a hanfull of buggies that i was keen to use in one of my lists, i cant say i have played with them at present so would not know. I got them as i was doing a speed freak type list lots of fast things but i also have a good amount of skorchas in there also.

I would also like to know the dif between.

I'll put in multiples so they keep the range-to-place-BMs up even when the formation has multiple BMs on it.  It's also nice to have a little bit of a boost if your Warbikes end up in FF or your Skorchas end up in CC.  (Statistically, it's such a small difference that it's irrational but it makes me feel better anyway. :p )  The total number of buggies depends on the size of the KoS but never many - something along the lines of 2 in a normal, 3/Big, 4/Uge or less.

I defended Buggies for a long time.  I used to take an all-purpose KoS that was mostly Buggies with a few Warbikes and Skorchas.  It was always somewhat useful but suffered from being jack of all trades, master of none.  As a result, I can't recall the last time I took a majority buggy KoS.

The problem to my mind is that they are just a shade worse than the bikes and skorchas.  I don't know what you could modify to make them equal but not better, and I don't know how you could build an ork formation that would allow you to give a price difference based on unit type.

Yes, the FF4+ they bring to the Ork horde is so desirable you could remove their save and make them speed 30 and I'd still be looking to take them.

So anything done to it would have to be to the FF value. Going from FF4+ to FF5+ IC (funnily enough I normally assume the buggers are FF IC) would make a difference here. Better against dug in troops then buggies, with better but shorter ranged firepower. That looks like a decent choice.

I would definitely support this as a change, perhaps even reduce them to SV6+ to represent the volatile fuel tanks.

Well then though if buggies are behind skorcha and bikes, won't they just be behind bikes? :) Is there anything that would be a slight buff for them?

Maybe rather than dropping the Skorcha FF - the buggy FF should go to 4+? Maybe witht he skorcha at FF4+ IC if it needs a slight edge over it.

I'm definately not in favour of a reduction to Scorcha FF.

If the (percieved) problem is with Buggy, then fix the Buggy.
This idea is better if a change is needed at all.

I regularly use formations of Buggies and like to include them in with my formations of skorchas.

I believe that everyone knows the benefits of skorchas, so the benefits of buggies.

They are better than skorchas in CC and it is amazing the number of units that you seem to face that are better in FF than CC. I find that if I want to minimise my loses then I want to reduce the hit coming back therefore buggies are better than skorchas at this.

They have a longer range. Even with the large movement rates that buggies and skorchas have I have been amazed at the number of times that I have failed to get into range to shoot with my 15cm guns. Also when you are playing with a big or uge formation it can be difficult to get everyone within range and not be right on top of the enemy. This is especially bad if you decide to base your E40k skorchas on War Master bases.

Buggies have an AT shot.

As buggies are just as good at CC as FF they act as the perfect screen to skorchas.
