I'd been playing around but realised you're always going to have a lopsided activation count and you may as well embrace the big hitters...

ok: 2000pts

Kustom Gargant = 425pts
Kustom Gargant = 425pts
Supa Stomper + 2 Grotnaughts + Mek(+1DC on Supa)= 425
Loota Warband -> 6boyz, 2Grotz + Battlefortress =275
Air Force -> 3Fighta + 6 Big Bommaz = 450

yup, having the BTS as the air force. I've not seen anyone else do it, but there might be a reason for it...

3000pts:

Great Gargant = 800 (Supreme commander, yay)
Big Krawler + 12 Killa Kans = 825 (BTS)
Kustom Gargant = 425pts
Supa Stomper + 2 Grotnaughts + Mek(+1DC on Supa)= 425
Air Force -> 3Fighta + 6 Big Bommaz = 450 (these may be split into 3 formations of fightas)

The big krawler should be almost impossible to break. (or stop) Lousy activation count though.

being able to place between 13 and 16 BP a turn as well as all all the other shooting sounds like great fun.

With only four activations "on the ground", you might have a tough time getting objectives and you're going to be heavily out-activated...

I'm afraid any off board formations don't count towards any of the goals, so flyer's couldn't count as BTS.

4.3 Spacecraft
Q: Do Spacecraft count for the Break
Their Spirit goal if they are the most
expensive formation in an army?
A: No. Spacecraft (or any off-board units
or formations) do not count towards goals.

With OGBM you're typically going to be a little low on the activation count, just like playing AMTL. With a 3000 point AMTl army, I usually have 6 to 8 activiations. The downside is  you will usually be out-activated and, as Chroma siad, you might have difficulty grabbing objectives. On the upside, Gargants and Titans can take a beating and still dish out as much firepower at the end of the game as they did in the beginning and they're tough BTS objectives.

well, I concluded I could either have 6-8 activations where 4 of them are so small as to shatter if looked at (and with limited nobz those formations ain't coming back) or have 5 activations all capable of delivering and taking a beating.

meh, i need to get a few games under my belt to learn this a wee bit better.

I thought aircraft didn't count as off board fomations, since they do spend time on the board getting shot at.

however, there was something about the BTS formation being off board at the end of the turn counts as being destoryed (mainly so marines and the like couldn't airlift off their BTS to deny it to the enemy), so it would hand BTS to the enemy.

"Off board" means anything off the table that *hasn't* been destroyed, so aircraft, spacecraft, teleporters in reserve, none count towards BTS.

Necrons have a special rule where any of their reserves "count as" destroyed if not on the board.

yes, but with that airforce your opponent will lose one activation each turn :)

Is there a consensus as to what the best big mek upgrade is to take?

I am also curious as to why you would not take a bigmek upgrade on as many units as possible. It seems like a pretty important upgrade all things considering.

(Still dinkering around with lists myself)

Personally, I tend to go for upgrading a Big Gun to a Soopa or Zzap, or for the FF upgrade.

It is, but it starts to add up after a while.  So, the question is something like "Is it better to add a Big Mek to 3 Gargants or have another Warband to hold objectives?"  Overall, though, I figure it's okay if Meks are taken most of the time.  After all, if there's any list that should have lots of Meks, it's OGBM.

(Still dinkering around with lists myself)

Please share the results.  I'm always eager for feedback.
