Hi

have nt been around much due to health and work. W40K 6th ed has proved to be very popular down at our local club with over a dozen players enjoying it. I have been trying new Codex CSM.

Has anyone tried coming up with an Epic Chaos list to match the new Codex CSM? Adding new units such as Mutilators, Warp Talons, Heldrakes and Mauler/Forgefiends? Plus Cultists, Dark Apostles and Warpsmiths.

At some point I will need to do an Epic army to match my W40k CSM.

Cheers

James

I was thinking about it but didn't had the energy to actually write something.

There's nothing really new about a lot of those units, and some already exist as part of fan written army lists, or are integrated into different lists (e.g. Cultists being part of LatD). As a result, I don't see a great incentive to write a new list, rather it would simply be a case of approving certain additions to existing Chaos lists, such as the Black Legion list.

To be honest though, I think that there has been enough change to Chaos core lists mooted of late, and I think that stability is required. As a result, if you really wanted to go down this path, it might be better to create an entirely new list, although that would, potentially, be a lot more work.

It would be good to see a variant list done for the modern chaos at some, I’d be interested eventually too.

To discuss some of the units:

Warpsmiths wouldn’t be represented, as Tech-Marines aren’t. Dark Apostles would be a Chaos copy of a Chaplain. Warp Talons are easy too; as Raptors but with teleport.

The epic aircraft rules don’t allow for aircraft close combat attacks, but the Heldrake could have a 1cm AA attack representing it close enough (I'm not sure how good it's attack should be as I don't have a clue what a 'vector strike' is and can't be bothered to read the 6th Ed flyer rules). It's mean that target aircraft would get to use all their short range defensive attacks for once.

Really?

I do not see much new in it at all other than some larger items (helldrake) for the sake of $$

Dreadnought is renamed.

What else? It is Epic after all and supposed to be a representation, not 40k at a 6mm scale...

three new demon engines - the forgefiend, the maulerfiend and the helldrake (although the last is hinted as being chaos space marine specific - being a warped version of the fighter jets the legions used to have, with a shriveled heart of a still living space marine pilot.).

Of the first two - the forgefiend comes with either twin hades autocannon or 'ecto-plasma' guns, while the maulerfiend is always CC but can take lasher tentacles for fighting infantry or magma cutters for heavy work.

they also have a limited repair ability, shown in the fluff to them eating battlefield scrap and regenerating.

they're a bit silly, but also current. (i'm not going to name them in the Deamon engines list I think, but the weapon options for the smallest demon engines might get tweaked a little).

There's also a close combat version of the obileterator called the mutilator...

In Epic a Mutilator would just be an Obliterator without any shooting attack.

They'd have no FF ability either and should have a MW attack instead due to their speciality being producing all those deadly power weapons of whatever kind best fits their current combat needs. CC4+ +1 EA MW might be appropriate. Possibly 3+.

Obliterators already have +1EA MW and CC3+ too.
Remove the shooting attack and you have Mutilators.
I see no point in using them. If you want stats for Mutilators then give them either CC2+ or +2EA MW with CC3+. At least then you can make then interchangeable with the same points cost.

I will provide stats for the other three new dameon engines today.

Just a clarification, NetEA Obliterators don't have an extra MW attack.

Oh right. When did they loose that? Still CC3+ though. So Mutilators would swap the shooting attack for MW EA+1.

Sugestion:

Chaos Mutilator
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Infantry 15cm 4+ 2+ -
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Mutilator Weapons (Base Contact) (Assault Weapons) Macro-weapon, Extra Attack (+1)

Notes: Fearless, Reinforced Armour, Teleport, Thick Rear Armour

And forgot:

Chaos Warp Talons
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Infantry 30cm 4+ 3+ 6+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Ligtning Claws (Base Contact) (Assault Weapons) Macro-weapon, Extra Attack (+1), First Strike
Warpflame Strike (15cm) (Small Arms) First Strike

Notes: Invulnerable Save, Jumppacks

Ok whishful thinking then :D After all Obliterators are armed with Power fists now and with mutateable CC weapons in the past. Super-Terminators if you so will.
BTW Obliterators STILL can't grow AA-weapons. But Havocs with Missile Launchers can upgrade to AA-Missiles.

Added stats for Warp Talons above.

Or you could just make Chaos Fliers more Generic in name and keep their stats as representative.

Quote:
Chaos Forgefiend
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Armoured Vehicle 20cm 4+ 4+ 3+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
2 x Hades Autocannon 30cm AP4+/AT5+ Disrupt
OR

Magma Cutters (Base Contact) (Assault Weapons) Titan-killer (1)

Or you could place defiler in with these as a generic 'Chaos walker' and keep the stats.

Adding for the sake of adding seems to be a waste
