The originally released list had some issues due to the flexibility of the list. Basically, it allowed some pretty exotic builds (like lists that were almost entirely WEs). The revised list cut that down pretty drastically.

Personally, I think it's a bit too restrictive and I've been making a case that several of the formations be moved to the core. The AC is open to considering that for the next list revision but no promises, of course.

anyway i can voice my support, or am i to new.the whole mystic of epic besides ,epic sculpts and lower prices is the army's weren't the , sell a lot of mins for a high price and make a narrow set of rules that don't represent the fluff like 40k. I am a bit ignorant to the rules but doesn't it make it more fun when the list are bigger with more variety. I understand the 25% taken as ally's but still.

Great fun to play with though.

Epic can also make more than one list for each army. Makes it easier to balance the all-WE list, as an example, if the list is designed that way rather than when it's an accident of list writing.

You could use the Red Corsairs list and use your Black Legion models for it for example. :)

Think of Epic army lists not as "This is everything the Black Legion can possibly ever field in any army under all circumstances" but instead "This is the forces available to the Black Legion in the battles of one particular war".

The design philosophy for Epic is what Jervis handed down. Instead of one big, all-encompassing list, the goal is lots of army lists geared to different flavors and styles. More focus makes the army lists easier to develop and balance (in theory, anyway).

Players can pick the list that best fits the style they want to play. So, if you want a classic Ork list, you can use the core/Ghazkull list. If you want a fast, Evil-Sunz style list, you use the Speed Freeks.

And you should feel free to use the same minis, regardless of the nominal title of the army list. The titles are basically just for a bit of background feel. The "Blood Angels" list can really be considered just "Space Marines With an Assault Focused Strategy" but that's no fun as a list name. So, as an example, I'm building a second SM army with lots of bikes and speeders that I will field as either White Scars or Dark Angels/Ravenwing, depending on what I want to play that day.

More specific to Chaos, the Black Legion is sort of the neutral, all-purpose CSM list. Red Corsairs is written to represent more recently-turned Marines, but it will work for any less-corrupted force or for a warband that has captured a lot of more recent SM technology. The cult legions are all represented. It's a bit more of a stretch, but you could use them to represent certain styles of play, even if you don't want to play the actual cult. The World Eaters or the Khorne Renegades list could be "generic berzerker chaos marines" or the Emperor's Children "speed cult chaos marines".

The 40K fluff takes a bit of a change every time they release a new codex :) The previous codex was closer to the Black Legion list which itself is meant to be a generic Chaos list. IIRC the idea was to later release more lists but obviously they never got around to that.

the codex are the fluff there trying to push there new product with. The fluff comes from 25+ years of creativity , 100 or so novels, tons of source books , ext . The new codex's are what ever Gws sales team needs to make money, not saying there not fluff filled or made with love but, the nids ate them all.

(Please understand I love the work the members of this site have done for the epic community )
