There has been a fair amount of discussion regarding the Indomitable rule. Having read the posts i'm aware of what it does and how it works, but was wondering where the rule originated? i have gone through the various incarnations of the main rules but have found no reference to it anywhere. Has it been created to deal with 'purist' Cult Legions such as the World Eaters to prevent armies being composed entirely of Fearless formations?

I believe it originally came out of the squat list development.

And that's exactly the reason it's being used in the Cult Legion lists.

How old is the rule and how thoroughly has it been playtested ? What is the general consensus amongst non-Chaos players regarding its fairness/legitemacy? Is it unpopular or regarded as a reasnoble compromise compared to all Fearless armies (which isn't likely to be too popular with any opponent) ?

Actually it was from an old Stubborn Rule.

In the drive to remove Fearless as the main ability, we started to adopt Indomitable.

Somewhere along the way it became standard to place it as the troops main skill. After a while, I felt that we lost the vision for Indomitable to replace Fearless, so I removed it totally from the Emperor's Children and the World Eaters.

In my current frame of mind, until we agree to review and possibly either replace many of the Fearless units with Indomitable, it should remain an ability that is not abused and only seen in the right lists. The above two are examples where I do not feel it belongs unless it replaces Fearless troops.

Sadly, the reality is that people have lives to live and everything appears to be volunteer work. This means a breakdown of structure, accountability, and a slow to non-existent movement forward for development. That is not a 'dig' at anyone, it is just reality. We all have our ups and downs.

At present, I see it as a good ability for the Death Guard. In that regard, it is up to Hena whether he wishes to use it to replace some of the Fearless elements or not. I do not currently see it being used in other Cult lists. That may change, who knows.
