Hi guys!

I'm new to the forums(though been playing other GW systems for over 11 yrs  ), though I have been reading through the forums for the past few weeks. Impressed by Onyx's Iron Warrior army I'm planning on playing them as the fluff of Perturabo suits me just fine.

Are there any iron warrior lists? I cannot find the mentioned Steve's army list, and I only found the BlackLegion's one (Storm of Iron). Just curious if there are any other ones and/or is there any possibility to get a link to Steve's.

I would like a good Iron Warrior list with a strong Undivided feel to it (not so much focus on daemonic engines), although I realize there are/can be some khorne oriented IW (even in WD256 Index Astartes - only Khorne Aspiring Champions and Khorne berzerkers could be picked in a IW army, no other cult).

PS. if there aren't any I guess I will try to make one - I don't play in tournaments so my friends won't care. A simple question:
- How much points should I add per unit taken for example from Imperial Guards (basils ;)) to grant the formation a higher, space marine initiative value? 25?

PS2. Love the forums and good to see a solid, mature community connected with a GW game. A rare sight indeed  :sigh:

EDIT:
Added Steve's list with the changes mentioned later on in the thread. Latest changes can be downloaded below.

EDIT2 - 09.10.09
Corrected all the typos and small mistakes. Added the 1 heavy flamer to the termiantors, changed basilisk armour to 6+.

EDIT3 - 10.21.09
       Version 2.0 Changes:
o Changed stats to match the Black Legion changes: Aerospace units, Obliterators, Defilers, Dreadnought Armour (3+), Predator FF (4+) and the Chaos Stalker.
o Removed Basilisk formation. Added the Grand Artillery Battery and Basilisks as an upgrade to the Armoured Detachment and the Iron Warriors Siege Detachment.  All artillery formations have their initiative changed to 2+ to represent the being crewed by non-Astartes.
o Changed the cost of a Siege Dreadnought to 85 pts.
o Removed the Chaos Space Marine upgrade.
o Added the Iron Warriors Assault Detachment
o Naming Changes

Possible changes for the future:
o Adding the Chaos Harbringer Bomber
o Corvus Assault pod armed titans.

I've just got hold of a hard copy of my list - as the document is on a broken laptop, I'll post it tomorrow

I'd love a decent Iron warriors list. Them and my siege army could sit in bunkers staring at each other and rolling dice :)

:disagree:

But I have been made aware that there are some theatres in the war that are much more dynamic than the western front.

Yeah but they didn't go BOOM BOOM BOOM and count ten yards gained as a major victory. :))

My biggest comment on that I guess is why certain bits of Imperial kit, like SHTs? And what was the rational behind making the basilisks cheaper than their guard equivalents?

From testing for another list one way to 'tame' basilisks in armies that can really use them is make them a 2 strong 'assault gun' upgrade to a formation. Or even have both.

Also maybe use the 'normal' basilisk (armour 6+), not the armegeddon pattern (armour 5+). The emplacements then make a bit more sense for it!

Would you think changing for a Murder or similar class (just bombardment) would fit better than the devastation? It would limit a drop assault to the battleship however.

When they had their own list in Warhammer 40,000, the Iron Warriors were able to use a selection of Imperial tech. including the Basilisk; It is not unreasonable conjecture to assume that the Iron Warriors would also have access to Imperial Super Heavy Tanks.

And what was the rational behind making the basilisks cheaper than their guard equivalents?

This is confusing ; with the increased Strategy Rating you'd expect their cost to go up, not down.

====

For my own comments, the list uses the various 0-x balance 'patches' from the Black Legion list, which should be avoided if possible as they lead to the list only being balanced at circa 3000pts.

Basilisks are an error - I was trying to prevent the insertion of a piece of toast in the dvd player at the time.

Imperial stuff - as E&C said

IRON WARRIORS GRAND COMPANY                     300

Surely with only 40 CSMs it should be named IRON WARRIORS tiny COMPANY?

And for Super-heavy Tanks. GWs Iron Warriors studio army has a Chaos Baneblade for Apocalypse. Also Chaos Baneblade could be the old Fellblade and Chaos Shadowsword could be the old Mammoth. Both feature in the Horus Heresy CCG.

Thanks Steve! the list is exactly what I was looking for. Lots of tanks, steel and iron! I have just a couple of questions:

- What do you think of adding a Chaos Thunderhawk Gunship to the list?  :sulk: would it be unfluffy by any reason?
- Why limit the obliterators to 0-2 in upgrades instead of 0-3?
- The cost of the Siege dreadnought (100pts) - wouldn't 75pts be enough or am I missing sth?
- one thing I noticed in Chaos lists, why can't we ever upgrade a formation with additional units of normal Chaos Space Marines?

As for now I'm going to rewrite this into a document with all the unit info etc, I can post it later on so it can be added in the 'Current Chaos lists' for future generations.

Great idea with the Dreadnought companies   :agree:
