Am I missing something, adding it up wrongly or what?

Looking at the entry in the Black Legion Chaos army list it states:
One Chaos Space Marine Lord Charachter upgrade and from 4 to 6 Terminator Units at 65 pts pr. unit.
Say I take 4 stands this will mean that I pay 260 pts for 4 terminators with a charachter attached.

A normal Space marine player would pay 375 (325 for the terminators +50 for a charachter) or 400 (if using the UK Tournement Army List)

Can anyone please explain to me why there is such a huge difference in the cost?

Plus SM have a higher strategy rating- and therefore a higher chance of going first

But I still got it right that they dont pay for their hero?
I can understand that S-rating and TSKNF can make up a point difference, but even then it seems that the point difference is huge.
If they pay for the hero a detachment of 4 Traitor Terminators with a Hero would cost 310 pts, wich is 90 less than a comparable detachment of Loyalist Terminators with a champion.

Thanks for helping clearing this out for me. I need it for the basis of a tournement so I want things to be as fair as possible. :)

They do not, the hero is simply assigned to the formation.

I believe the Chaos Champion is looking to give a set cost to the minimum sized (4) formation that will clearly incorporate the hero, with option additions then also allowed (including extra terminator units).

This is unlikely to change the price of the 4-strong formation I believe, but will at least fix the 'floating hero costs' issue with the list.

Think of it not as getting a free hero but as paying more for upgrading the unit from 4-6 which makes a lot of sense as it's making the unit much tougher.

It's not free per-se, it just costs more or less depending on how many Terminator units there are in a formation.  :grin:

The question is not about a free character.

It's whether a 4 stand terminator group with lord is worth 260
and a 6 stand terminator group with lord is worth 390

A 4 man group with lord is still very fragile, the extra 2 stands makes them much tougher and they are much less effected by teleporter accidents

I think they're notably underpriced when the character is included actually.

Hey, I said "kinda" didn't I? :)

As with several formations in the Black Legion list, they may well be a little too good for their price (especially when combined with a Daemon Prince & Obliterators), but the 0-2 limit on the original structure papered over that power somewhat.
