Big-arse, company-at-a-time-deploying-dropship from the heresy era. That's all I've read :D
I may have seen stats by Black Legion somewhere...?

It was also quite a handy fighter (fighter/bomber) space ship as well judging by the 2nd Horus Heresy Dark Angels book if I remember correctly.

Having talked to Dan Abnett, he always imagined it being very sleek almost like the silver Naboo ship in the 1st of the new *spit* StarWars movies

We were talking about using the DRM Dropship with a little conversion work for a Stormbird. Didn't it carry like 100 SMs ? What was its armaments ? Stats ? Image

Good. The image I always had was a stubbier version of the Sonic Cruiser. They're close, though the Naboo ship is decidedly pointier.

That is considered by some to represent the Stormbird before Mister Abnett took dramatic licence with the concept.

Yes, I've seen that pic before ... I have not read any of the stuff Abnett has written. And one of the reasons I won't, besides the 40K fluff to me is convoluted, changes often(too often!) and is just plain lame, IMO, Abnett contributes to that ... I like a little more structure in my "made up" Universe !! ;D

In essence the Stormbird description we allways get is that its a dedicated landing craft heavily armoured and well equipped to protect disembarking troops - so I'd suggest (and probably be contested) that if anything it'd be vastly less versatile than the Thunderhawk - I believe its been mentioned in Planet Strike that they're now insanely rare, even in the Chaos Legions.

Yes - they feature in nearly all the heresy books so far. Its mentioned that they were in the process of being phased out in favour of thunderhawks

Really? That fits better in the 40K school of design than a sleeker pointier Imperial ship. Thanks.

There's a pretty thorough discussion of the various discriptions of the Stormbird in this thread:
http://z15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crusade/index.php?showtopic=816&st=0
Gives a pretty good idea of its overall appearence and armament.
