Hi

After playing mainly IG since EA released (with maybe half a dozen games using SM, Orks and AMTL) I am finally succumbing to the Dark side and starting an EA chaos force.

I have done Iron Warriors in W40k and BFG and have long thought about fielding them in EA. The kick start came this week when a new guy at my local gaming club announced he had some Epic figures to sell. I tried really hard to persuade him to keep the army to give me another opoonent. I talked up EA as I reckon it's the best version of epic rules. However I failed as he did nt want to learn new rules and wanted to cut down on number of armies he had.

He had part painted the figures as Iron Warriors. So having had to admit defeat in getting him to keep the army, I figured that as a consolation it would get my EA Iron Warriors started. He had roughly 10 of current sprues of infantry, missing just the cultists, beastmen and flamers. He had some of the Epic 40k era plastic SM tanks painted up as Iron Warriors.

To keep things simple I plan on using the Black Legion armylist as it is the most playtested and balanced of the various Chaos EA lists. I reckon I would want the bulk of troops to be Chaos undivided with a small number Cult Marines to add a little bit of variety. I think you can justify small number of Cult troops in Iron Warriors force from the background in Storm of Iron.

I am undecided about taking demons- I suspect that might be stretching the Iron Warriors background a bit too far.

From the figures I acquired I reckon I should be able to get 5 CSM retinues, with several sorceror and icon bearer upgrades, and a couple of Berzerkers/Noise Marine Cult Troops and enough rhinos to mechanise whole force if necessary.

Witn 10 stands of terminators I can take 2 units. If I keep them both 4-strong then I can mount them all in Land Raiders, which I reckon would look cool in Iron Warriors force, even if tactically best to use deep-strike teleporting......

Does anyone have a good 3000 points EA Iron Warriors list? I am not looking for a tournament style force, more for friendly games at local club. So backgound and fluff are important- would Pertuarbo approve of list....

Cheers

James

In case it helps with suggesting armies, I though I should list out models available to me:
14 stands Chaos lords/champions/icon bearers
31 stands CSM marines (with character upgrades enough for 5 retinues)
zero Havocs
10 stands terminators
9 stands berzerkers
10 stands Noise Marines
30 stands lesser daemons
10 stands daemonic beasts
30 rhinos
12 land raiders

When I expand army I want to buy some of the Forgeworld Chaos flyers and also add some titans. But for now no titans or air support available to my iron Warriors.

Hi guys

I know the forums have been down but would be grateful for soe comments from those who have used Black Legion army list more than I have, especially if used to rperesent Iron Warriors.

With doing a Chaos Undivided warriors of Chaos list for WFB, as well as working on Iron Warriors forces for W40k and BFG, this epic force will complete my inititaion to the Dark Side.

Well, culd you be tempted to give the proposed iron Warriors list a spin? I don't think you can do much of a proxy force using the BL list, unless you go all war enginy backed up with infantry heavy weapons.

Hi Chris

Happy to with the caveat that have not followed the IW list development in the slightest. Unless I can get a chance to actually play a playtest list in pratice then I don't follow the. With tring to keep up with the IG Minervan Armoured Company and AMTL, that was enough for me.

I am also concerned that now Colin (aka kleomenes) has had to go down soiuth for work I no longer have regular Epic opponent in West Yorkshire. the couple of potential Epic players are all new to the game and would likely want to play against only officially approved playtest lists. I would nt have a problem if I turned up with Black Legion list, but it would be harder to convince them to accept a less playtested list.

Cheers

James
