Post subject:  Epic: Chaos Daemons, anyone?

Hello all   after a while being out of the loop as far as all things Epic/Tac Comms goes, we're now settled in our new home and I've dug some of my unassembled Epic stuff out to work on.  I'm currently in a Chaos frame of mind, seeing as I'm doing World Eaters & L&tD stuff in Epic, and Chaos Marines in 40k too!

I just got the Chaos Daemons Codex (more to read the fluff part of than to actually do a Daemon army), and it's got me thinking about the viability of doing an Epic Chaos Daemons army list.  Here are some initial ideas:

Core Formations:

- Greater Daemons; should these be limited, e.g. no more than say 2 per army?  Also faction rules would apply, so if you've not got any Slaaneshi formations, for example, you couldn't take a Keepr of Secrets.
- Daemonhosts; make them power specific, so you can only have one kind in any formation: 6 Daemonettes, 7 Plaguebearers, 8 Bloodletters, 9 Flamers.  In terms of points cost, should they be the same as in the BL & L&tD lists, or vary?  E.G. in the Death Guard list, Plaguebearers are 25 points per unit.

Support Formations:

- Daemonic Beasts - 6 Units; should this be generic, e.g. a set price but allowing players to take either Fleshhounds, Beasts of Nurgle, etc; or seperate entries for each?
- Daemonic Cavalry - 6 Units; same principle as above, for the sheer reason that Bloodcrushers (Bloodletters on Juggernauts) are a lot slower than mounted Daemonettes!
- Soulgrinders - 4 units; I'll talk about their stats later, but should they have AA attacks as standard, or have a different type of formation altogether for Soulgrinders that are AA focussed (like Lord I's suggested new kind of Defiler (Desecrator???) for the Chaos lists)

New Unit Ideas:

- Daemonic Artillery; these would be a support formation.  I was thinking of suggesting something like this for the death Guard list, a daemon engine that has AP, AT and AA attacks, and is generic enough that it could be Cannons of Khorne (or Blood Cannons), a Plague Cannon, a Pleasure Cannon, etc etc.

Daemonic Artillery: [/I]When the armies of the Chaos Gods march to war they are supported by monstrous constructs whose sole purpose is to hurl death and destruction at the enemies of their masters.  Like all daemonic constructs, their form varies according to the whim of their masters; for example the artillery of Nurgle are like giant, bloated maggots that spit corrosive bile at the enemy infantry or thick clouds of flies that choke the engines of enemy aircraft.  Slaanesh's cannons are magnificent pieces of twisted artifice, that project intense waves of aural or psionic distortion that overwhelm the enemy.  Khorne's artillery are wrought from Irona dn Brassspew skulls and boiling blood at the enemy.

Type            Speed   Armour   Close Combat   Fire Fight
Light vehicle  15cm      4+          6+           4+

Weapon                 Range        Firepower               Notes
Daemonic munitions*   30cm       AP5+/AT5+/AA6+       Ignore Cover

*For want of a better name!  I thought this stat is generic enough that players could use models they want to fit their armies, for example (as I've suggested above) I was thinking of sculpting giant maggots for Nurgle ones, or cannons covered in brass skulls for Khorne, etc.

ut what do people think of giving them AA attacks as well?  Should there be two types, one specifically AA?

- Soulgrinder: (another support formation) like in 40k, these are a variant Defiler, so they'd have similar stats:

Type                Speed   Armour   Close Combat   Fire Fight
Armoured vehicle  15cm      4+          4+           4+

Weapon              Range         Firepower                Notes
Maw Cannon          30cm          AP4+/AT4+             Ignore Cover
Harvester           15cm          2x AP3+/AT6+
    or                    Small Arms                Extra Attacks(+1)
Battle Claws        Base Contact  Assault Weapon        Extra Attacks(+1), Macro Weapon

Notes Fearless, Infiltrator, Invulnerable Save, Walker

- Another idea I have is for a Daemonic Abomination: basically a giant, warp born bestial spawn that would be a DC 2 or 3 war engine - basically, a chance for players to convert some gribbly monsters so they don't feel their armies are totally dwarfed by other armies' titans!  At the moment I don't have any ideas about the stats, but any suggestions would be welcome!

Also, do we need to make some sort of Daemonic Aircraft?  Or allow formations of Furies or Screamers make AA attacks/assault moves on Aircraft?

Finally, do we use any...

BL & L&tD Stuff?

the ones I'm thinking might be in keeping with the list is stuff like the Daemonic Assault Engines, Plague Tower, Daemon Knights, Silver Towers.  Anything else?  The reason I've suggested a limited number is because I think this list is meant to represent a purely Daemon army, from the Realm of Chaos itself - as opposed to a Daemon World which has fallen to Chaos/been swallowed in the Eye of Terror and is churning out warped versions of Imperial/Eldar/whatever technology.

* * *

So that's my ideas so far, comments, feedback and suggestions are welcome.  So here's over to the rest of the community!

Thanks for reading

I would definitely go with Deamons only. No deamonic engines or such things. Simply warp beasts en masse...easily to convert from warmaster range ^^

I haven't much looked at this, but Chroma did one some time ago.
