Now with EC at hold for a while (want to see where it is going), here is my take on Black Legion (Slaanesh themed), using latest proposed NetEA changes: Painlord (Banelord)   800 Retinue   + Rhinos (4)     315 Retinue   + Daemon Prince (SC, wings)   + Rhinos (4)     365 Possessed (Raptors) (4) 160 Chosen (4)   + 2 Obliterators   + Dreadclaws     460  x2 Legionnaires (Forlorn Hope)   + Dreadclaws     145  x2 Devastation cruiser   150         Total: 3000 Unfortunately only 8+1 activations. All lords are Chaos Sorcerors. Painlord will sit on objective and soften up enemy for Big Drop. Mobile retinues and raptors will support assaults. I would like to have cult marines, dreadnaughts, land-based obliterators and daemons but there is only limited thing what you can do with 3000 to keep some sensible number of activations. (NetEA net change: -60 pts) To get it fully painted, need to finish Painlord, scratch build 4 Obliterators and finish some Possessed (raptors) The very first version had bikes instead of Raptors (as Slaanesh steed riders), no Daemon Prince and one Obliterator less, but I decided that I want that Daemon Prince although worse than earlier but still more durable SC than simple Chaos Warlord and I have that nice SM fig for him (was it Fulgrim the name...?) Will comment here how my project continues. Hopefully without green border anymore by then... =] |

What is the thinking behind drop podding the Chosen formation? Paying to loose their teleport ability doesn't make sense to me. |

You sacrifice their late tactical deployment and in exchange get:  - no BM for arriving  - most possibly BM (and casualties) to enemy  - more probably first activation (depends of the enemy) So it is a strategical choice. The first two usually grant +2 to +4 advantage in engagement resolution. |

So, after some games with this drop list and its evolution versions, the final version I used in "Syksyn Säveleet" tournament was like this: Devastation      150 Banelord       800 Chosen (7) + Obliterator 540 Chosen (4)       260 Retinue + Daemon Prince (SC) +  Obliterator + Defiler  485 Retinue + Dreadclaws  315 Forlorn Hope + Rhinos  145 Forlorn Hope + Rhinos  145 Raptors (4)       160 (picture upcoming) The strategy was to keep blitz with Defiler boosted retinue using sustained fire to do pin-point blast/barraging. Banelord would be closeby and 1-2 objectives would be set so that Banelord could overwatch them so that no enemy unit can contest/keep them without falling to direct line of sight to Banelord. Drop retinue would be used to lure enemy from backline and/or contest objective set aside, as would smaller Chosen. The bigger Chosen would do the main punch either taking the enemy blitz or other similar feat. (this was some things I had learned from previous versions of the list: while dropping scouts are nice, 4 units break far too easily and thus only useful against certain armies or those who cannot perform good drop defense. Similarily I switched to teleporting Chosen as against good drop defense the original idea did not work well. For the Banelord keeping the blitz: it was usually too tempting to do some advancing with it to bear enemy within its (true) 60cm kill-range, so better to keep blitz with something else...) I guess I will post the tournament results to EA battle reports some day... or maybe here as it will just be a short listing of opponents, highlights of the games etc. |
